Matthew 23:1-26
1Then spake JesusG2424 to the multitudesG3793 and to his disciplesG3101, 2sayingG3004, The scribesG1122 and the PhariseesG5330 sitG2523 on Moses’ seat: 3all thingsG3956 thereforeG3767 whatsoever they bid you, these do and observeG5083: but do not ye after their worksG2041; for they sayG3004, and do not. 4Yea, they bind heavy burdensG5413 and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’sG444 shouldersG5606; but they themselves will not moveG2795 them with their fingerG1147. 5But all their worksG2041 they do to be seenG2300 of menG444: for they makeG4160 broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, 6and loveG5368 the chief placeG4411 at feasts, and the chief seatsG4410 in the synagoguesG4864, 7and the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be calledG2564 of menG444, RabbiG4461. 8But beG1510 not ye calledG2564 RabbiG4461: for oneG1520 isG1510 your teacherG1320, and all ye areG1510 brethren. 9And callG2564 no man your fatherG3962 on the earthG1093: for oneG1520 isG1510 your FatherG3962, evenG2532 he who isG1510 in heaven. 10Neither beG1510 ye calledG2564 masters: for oneG1520 isG1510 your master, evenG3366 the ChristG5547. 11But he that isG1510 greatestG3173 among you shall beG1510 your servantG1249. 12And whosoever shall exaltG5312 himself shall be humbledG5013; and whosoever shall humbleG5013 himself shall be exaltedG5312.
13But woeG3759 unto you, scribesG1122 and PhariseesG5330, hypocritesG5273! because ye shutG2808 the kingdomG932 of heavenG3772 against menG444: for ye enterG1525 not in yourselvesG4771, neither suffer ye them that are enteringG1525 in to enterG1525. 141
15WoeG3759 unto you, scribesG1122 and PhariseesG5330, hypocritesG5273! for ye compass seaG2281 and land to makeG4160 oneG1520 proselyte; and whenG3752 he is becomeG1096 so, ye makeG4160 him twofold more a sonG5207 of hellG1067 than yourselves.
16WoeG3759 unto you, ye blindG5185 guidesG3595, that sayG3004, Whosoever shall swearG3660 by the templeG3485, it isG1510 nothing; but whosoever shall swearG3660 by the goldG5557 of the templeG3485, he isG1510 a debtor. 17Ye fools and blindG5185: for which isG1510 greaterG3173, the goldG5557, or the templeG3485 that hath sanctifiedG37 the goldG5557? 18And, Whosoever shall swearG3660 by the altarG2379, it isG1510 nothing; but whosoever shall swearG3660 by the giftG1435 that isG1510 upon it, he isG1510 a debtor. 19Ye blindG5185: for which is greaterG3173, the giftG1435, or the altarG2379 that sanctifieth the giftG1435? 20He thereforeG3767 that sweareth by the altarG2379, sweareth by it, and by all thingsG3956 thereon. 21And he that sweareth by the templeG3485, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein. 22And he that sweareth by the heavenG3772, sweareth by the throneG2362 of GodG2316, and by him that sitteth thereon.
23WoeG3759 unto you, scribesG1122 and PhariseesG5330, hypocritesG5273! for ye tithe mintG2238 and anise and cummin, and have leftG863 undone the weightierG926 matters of the lawG3551, justiceG2920, and mercyG1656, and faithG4102: but these ye oughtG1163 to have done, and not to have leftG863 the other undone. 24Ye blindG5185 guidesG3595, that strain out the gnat, and swallowG2666 the camelG2574!
25WoeG3759 unto you, scribesG1122 and PhariseesG5330, hypocritesG5273! for ye cleanseG2511 the outsideG1855 of the cupG4221 and of the platter, but within they are fullG1073 from extortion and excess. 26Thou blindG5185 PhariseeG5330, cleanseG2511 firstG4413 the inside of the cupG4221 and of the platter, that the outsideG1622 thereof may becomeG1096 cleanG2513 alsoG2532.
