Psalms 55

Prayer for the Destruction of the Treacherous.

For the music director; on stringed instruments. A Possibly Contemplative; or Didactic; or Skillful PsalmMaskil of David.

11ListenH238 to my prayerH8605, GodH430; And 2do not hideH5956 Yourself from my pleadingH8467.2GiveH7181 Your 3attentionH7181 to me and answerH6030 me; I am restlessH7300 in my 4complaintH7879 and 56severelyH1949 distractedH1949,3BecauseH4480 of the voiceH6963 of the enemyH340, BecauseH4480H6440 of the 7pressureH6125 of the wickedH7563; For they 8bringH4131 downH4131 9troubleH205 upon me And in angerH639 they 10holdH7852 aH7852 grudgeH7852 againstH7852 me.

4My 11heartH3820 isH2342 inH2342 anguishH2342 withinH7130 me, And the terrorsH367 of 12deathH4194 have fallenH5307 upon me.5FearH3374 and 13tremblingH7461 comeH935 upon me, And 1415horrorH6427 has 16overwhelmedH3680 me.6I saidH559, “OhH4310H5414, that I hadH5414 wingsH83 like a doveH3123! I would flyH5774 awayH5774 and 1718beH7931 atH7931 restH7931.7BeholdH2009, I would fleeH5074 farH7368 awayH7368, I would 19spendH3885 my nightsH3885 in the wildernessH4057. SelahH55428I would hurryH2363 to my placeH4655 ofH4655 refugeH4655 From the 20stormyH5584 windH7307 and heavyH5591 galeH5591.”

9ConfuseH1104 them, LordH136, 21divideH6385 their tonguesH3956, For I have seenH7200 22violenceH2555 and strifeH7379 in the cityH5892.10DayH3119 and nightH3915 they goH5437 aroundH5437 her upon her wallsH2346, And evilH205 and harmH5999 are in her midstH7130.1123DestructionH1942 is in her midstH7130; 24OppressionH8496 and deceitH4820 do not departH4185 from her 25streetsH7339.

12For it is 26not an enemyH340 who tauntsH2778 me, Then I could endureH5375 it; NorH3808 is it one who hatesH8130 me who 27has exaltedH1431 himself againstH5921 me, Then I could hideH5641 myself from him.13But it is you, a manH582 28my equalH6187, My 29companionH441 and my 30confidantH3045;14We whoH834 hadH4985 sweetH4985 31fellowshipH5475 togetherH3164, 32WalkedH1980 in the houseH1004 of GodH430 among the commotionH7285.15May 33deathH4194 come 34deceitfullyH5378 upon them; May they 35goH3381 downH3381 aliveH2416 to 36SheolH7585, For evilH7451 is in their dwellingH4033, in their midstH7130.

16As for me, I shall 37callH7121 upon GodH430, And the LordH3068 will saveH3467 me.1738EveningH6153 and 39morningH1242 and at 40noonH6672, I will complainH7878 and moanH1993, And He will hearH8085 my voiceH6963.18He will 41redeemH6299 my soulH5315 in peaceH7965 42from the battleH7128 which is against me, For they are 43manyH7227 who are aggressive towardH5978 me.19GodH410 will 44hearH8085 and humiliateH6031 them-- Even the one 45who 46sitsH3427 enthronedH3427 from ancientH6924 timesH6924-- SelahH5542 With whomH834 thereH369 47isH369 noH369 changeH2487, And who 48do not fearH3372 GodH430.20He has putH7971 forthH7971 his handsH3027 against 49those who were at peaceH7965 with him; He has 5051violatedH2490 his covenantH1285.21His 52speechH6310 was 53smootherH2505 thanH4480 butterH4260, But his heartH3820 was warH7128; His wordsH1697 were 54softerH7401 thanH4480 oilH8081, Yet they were drawnH6609 55swordsH6609.

2256CastH7993 your burdenH3053 upon the LordH3068 and He will sustainH3557 you; 57He will neverH3808H5769 allowH5414 the righteousH6662 to 5859be shakenH4131.23But You, GodH430, will bringH3381 them downH3381 to the 60pitH875 of destructionH7845; 61MenH376 of bloodshedH1818 and deceitH4820 will 62not liveH2673 outH2673 halfH2673 their daysH3117. But I will 63trustH982 in You.
