Psalms 49
The Foolishness of Trusting in Riches.
For the music director. A Psalm of the sons of Korah.
11HearH8085 thisH2088, allH3605 peoplesH5971; ListenH238, allH3605 2inhabitantsH3427 of the worldH2465,2BothH1571 3lowH1121H120 and highH1121H376, RichH6223 and poorH34 togetherH3162.3My mouthH6310 will 4speakH1696 wisdomH2451, And the meditationH1900 of my heartH3820 will be 5understandingH8394.4I will inclineH5186 my earH241 to 6a proverbH4912; 7I will 8expressH6605 my 9riddleH2420 on the harpH3658.
5WhyH4100 should I 10fearH3372 in daysH3117 of adversityH7451, When the injusticeH5771 of those who betrayH6120 me surroundsH5437 me,6Those who 11trustH982 in their wealthH2428 And boastH1984 in the abundanceH7230 of their richesH6239?7NoH3808 oneH376 can byH6299 anyH6299 meansH6299 12redeemH6299 anotherH251 OrH3808 giveH5414 GodH430 a 13ransomH3724 for him--8For 14the redemptionH6306 of 15his soulH5315 isH3365 pricelessH3365, And he should ceaseH2308 imagining foreverH5769--9That he might 16liveH2421 on eternallyH5331, That he might not 1718undergoH7845 decayH7845.
10For he seesH7200 that even 19wiseH2450 peopleH2450 dieH4191; The 20foolishH3684 and the stupidH1198 alikeH3162 perishH6 And 21leaveH5800 their wealthH2428 to othersH312.11Their 2223innerH7130 thoughtH7130 is that their housesH1004 24are foreverH5769 And their dwellingH4908 placesH4908 to allH1755 generationsH1755; They have 25namedH7121 their landsH127 after their own namesH8034.12But 26manH120 in his splendorH3366 will not endureH3885; He is likeH4911 the animalsH929 that 27perishH1820.
13ThisH2088 is the 28wayH1870 of those who are foolishH3689, And of those afterH310 them who 29approveH7521 their wordsH6310. SelahH554214Like sheepH6629 they sinkH7743 downH7743 30to 31SheolH7585; DeathH4194 will be their shepherdH7462; And the 32uprightH3477 will ruleH7287 over them in the morningH1242, And their formH6736 shall be for 33SheolH7585 34to consumeH1086 35SoH4480 thatH4480 they have noH4480 loftyH2073 homeH2073.15But GodH430 will 36redeemH6299 my soulH5315 from the 37powerH3027 of 38SheolH7585, For 39He will receiveH3947 me. SelahH5542
16Do not beH3372 afraidH3372 40whenH3588 a personH376 becomesH6238 richH6238, WhenH3588 the splendorH3519 of his houseH1004 is increasedH7235;17For when he diesH4194, he will 41takeH3947 nothingH3808H3605 with him; His 42wealthH3519 will not descendH3381 afterH310 him.18ThoughH3588 while he livesH2425 he 43congratulatesH1288 44himselfH5315-- And though people praiseH3034 you whenH3588 you doH3190 wellH3190 for yourself--1945He will 46goH935 to the generationH1755 of his fathersH1; They will neverH3808H5704H5331 seeH7200 47the lightH216.2048MankindH120 in its splendorH3366, yet withoutH3808 understandingH995, Is 49likeH4911 the animalsH929 that 50perishH1820.
