Psalms 52
Futility of Boastful Wickedness.
For the music director. A Possibly Contemplative; or Didactic; or Skillful PsalmMaskil of David, 1 Sam 22:9when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul and said to him, “David has come to the house of Ahimelech.”
1WhyH4100 do you 1boastH1984 in evilH7463, you mightyH1368 manH1368? The 2faithfulnessH2617 of GodH410 endures allH3605 dayH3117 long.2Your tongueH3956 devisesH2803 3destructionH1942, Like a 4sharpH3913 razorH8593, 5you workerH6213 of deceitH7423.3You 6loveH157 evilH7451 moreH4480 thanH4480 goodH2896, 7LiesH8267 moreH4480 thanH4480 speakingH1696 whatH6664 isH6664 rightH6664. SelahH55424You loveH157 allH3605 wordsH1697 that devourH1105, You 8deceitfulH4820 tongueH3956.
59But GodH410 will breakH5422 you downH5422 foreverH5331; He will snatchH2846 you upH2846 and 10tearH5255 you awayH5255 from your tentH168, And 11uprootH8327 you from the 12landH776 of the livingH2416. SelahH55426The righteousH6662 will 13seeH7200 and fearH3372, And they will 14laughH7832 at him, saying,7“BeholdH2009, the manH1397 who would not makeH7760 GodH430 his refugeH4581, But 15trustedH982 in the abundanceH7230 of his richesH6239 And 16wasH5810 strongH5810 in 17his evil desireH1942.”
8But as for me, I am like a 18greenH7488 oliveH2132 treeH2132 in the houseH1004 of GodH430; I 19trustH982 in the faithfulnessH2617 of GodH430 foreverH5769 and everH5703.9I will 20praiseH3034 You foreverH5769, becauseH3588 You have doneH6213 it, And I will waitH6960 on Your nameH8034, 21for it is goodH2896, in the presenceH5048 of Your godlyH2623 onesH2623.
