Psalms 38

Prayer of a Suffering Penitent.

A Psalm of David, for a memorial.

1LordH3068, 1do not rebukeH3198 me in Your wrathH7110, And do not punishH3256 me in Your burningH2534 angerH2534.2For Your 2arrowsH2671 have sunkH5181 deepH5181 into me, And 3Your handH3027 has pressedH5181 downH5181 on me.3ThereH369 isH369 4noH369 healthyH4974 partH4974 in my fleshH1320 5becauseH4480H6440 of Your indignationH2195; ThereH369 isH369 noH369 healthH7965 6in my bonesH6106 becauseH4480H6440 of my sinH2403.4For my 7guiltyH5771 deedsH5771 have goneH5674 overH5674 my headH7218; Like a heavyH3515 burdenH4853 they weighH3513 tooH4480 muchH3513 for me.5My 8woundsH2250 growH887 foulH887 and festerH4743 BecauseH4480H6440 of 9my foolishnessH200.6I am bentH5753 over and 10greatlyH3966 bowedH7817 downH7817; I 11goH1980 in mourningH6937 allH3605 dayH3117 long.7For my 12sidesH3689 are filledH4390 with 13burningH7033, And thereH369 isH369 14noH369 healthyH4974 partH4974 in my fleshH1320.8I feelH6313 15faintH6313 and 16badlyH3966 crushedH1794; I 1718groanH7580 becauseH4480 of the 19agitationH5100 of my heartH3820.

9LordH136, allH3605 20my desireH8378 is 21beforeH5048 You; And my 22sighingH585 is not hiddenH5641 from You.10My heartH3820 throbsH5503, 23my strengthH3581 failsH5800 me; And the 24lightH216 of my eyesH5869, evenH1571 25that 26hasH369 goneH369 from me.11My 2728lovedH157 ones and my friendsH7453 standH5975 aloofH4480H5048 from my plagueH5061; And my kinsmenH7138 29standH5975 farH7350 awayH4480.12Those who 30seekH1245 my lifeH5315 31layH5367 snaresH5367 for me; And those who 32seekH1875 to injureH7463 me have 33threatenedH1696 destructionH1942, And they 34plotH1897 deceptionH4820 allH3605 dayH3117 long.

13But I, like a personH2795 who is deafH2795, do not hearH8085; And I am like a 35personH483 whoH483 cannotH483 speakH483, who does not openH6605 his mouthH6310.14Yes, I am like a personH376 whoH834 does not hearH8085, And in whose mouthH6310 are noH369 argumentsH8433.15For 36I waitH3176 for You, LordH3068; You 37will answerH6030, LordH136 my GodH430.16For I saidH559, “May they not rejoiceH8055 over me, Who, when my footH7272 slipsH4131, 38would exaltH1431 themselves overH5921 me.”17For I am 39readyH3559 to fallH6761, And 40my 41sorrowH4341 is continuallyH8548 beforeH5048 me.18For I 42admitH5046 my guiltH5771; I amH1672 fullH1672 ofH1672 43anxietyH1672 becauseH4480 of my sinH2403.19But my 44enemiesH340 are vigorousH2416 and 45strongH6105, And those who wrongfullyH8267 46hateH8130 me areH7231 manyH7231.20And those who 47repayH7999 evilH7463 for goodH2899, They 48becomeH7853 my enemiesH7853, becauseH8478 I followH7291 whatH2896 isH2896 goodH2896.21Do not abandonH5800 me, LordH3068; My GodH430, 49do not beH7368 farH7368 from me!2250HurryH2363 to helpH5833 me, LordH136, 51my salvationH8668!
