13But Jacob’sיַעֲקֹ֜בya.'a.KoH3290sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121answeredוַיַּעֲנ֨וּ וַיְדַבֵּ֑רוּvai.ya.'a.Nu vay.da.Be.ruH6030 H1696Shechemשְׁכֶ֨םshe.KhemH7927and his fatherאָבִ֛יו'a.VivH1Hamorחֲמ֥וֹרcha.MorH2544with deceitבְּמִרְמָ֖הbe.mir.MahH4820,becauseאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834he had defiledטִמֵּ֔אti.Me'H2930their sisterאֲחֹתָֽם׃'a.cho.TamH269Dinahדִּינָ֥הdi.NahH1783.

14They saidוַיֹּאמְר֣וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to them, “We cannotלֹ֤א נוּכַל֙lo' nu.KhalH3201 H3808doלַעֲשׂוֹת֙la.'a.soTH6213thisהַזֶּ֔הha.ZehH2088thingהַדָּבָ֣רha.da.VarH1697, that is,giveלָתֵת֙la.TetH5414our sisterאֲחֹתֵ֔נוּ'a.cho.Te.nuH269to amanלְאִ֖ישׁle.'IshH376whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834is uncircumcisedעָרְלָ֑ה'a.re.LahH6190,for that would be a disgraceחֶרְפָּ֥הcher.PahH2781to us.

15Onlyאַךְ־'akh-H389on thisH2088conditionwill we consentנֵא֣וֹתne.'otH225to you: ifאִ֚ם'imH518you will becomeתִּהְי֣וּtih.YuH1961likeכָמֹ֔נוּkha.Mo.nuH3644us, in that everyכָּל־kol-H3605maleזָכָֽר׃za.KharH2145of you will be circumcisedלְהִמֹּ֥לle.hi.MolH4135,

16then we will giveוְנָתַ֤נּוּve.na.Ta.nuH5414our daughtersבְּנֹתֵ֙ינוּ֙be.no.Tei.nuH1323to you, and we will takeנִֽקַּֽח־ni.kach-H3947your daughtersבְּנֹתֵיכֶ֖םbe.no.tei.KhemH1323for ourselves, and we will liveוְיָשַׁ֣בְנוּve.ya.Shav.nuH3427with you and becomeוְהָיִ֖ינוּve.ha.Yi.nuH1961oneאֶחָֽד׃'e.ChadH259peopleלְעַ֥םle.'AmH5971.

17But ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518you do not listenתִשְׁמְע֛וּtish.me.'UH8085to us to be circumcisedלְהִמּ֑וֹלle.hi.MolH4135,then we will takeוְלָקַ֥חְנוּve.la.Kach.nuH3947our daughterבִּתֵּ֖נוּbi.Te.nuH1323and goוְהָלָֽכְנוּ׃ve.ha.La.khe.nuH1980.”

18Now their wordsדִבְרֵיהֶ֖םdiv.rei.HemH1697seemedH3190reasonableH3190to Hamorחֲמ֑וֹרcha.MorH2544and Shechemשְׁכֶ֥םshe.KhemH7927,Hamor’sחֲמֽוֹר׃cha.MorH2544sonבֶּן־ben-H1121.

19The youngהַנַּ֙עַר֙ha.Na.'arH5288manH5288did not delayאֵחַ֤ר'e.CharH309to doלַעֲשׂ֣וֹתla.'a.SotH6213thisהַדָּבָ֔רha.da.VarH1697,becauseכִּ֥יkiH3588he was delightedחָפֵ֖ץcha.FetzH2654with Jacob’sיַעֲקֹ֑בya.'a.KoH3290daughterבְּבַֽת־be.vat-H1323.Now he was moreH4480respectedנִכְבָּ֔דnikh.BadH3513thanH4480allמִכֹּ֖לmi.KolH3605the householdבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004of his fatherאָבִֽיו׃'a.VivH1.

20So Hamorחֲמ֛וֹרcha.MorH2544and his sonבְּנ֖וֹbe.NoH1121Shechemוּשְׁכֶ֥םu.she.KhemH7927cameוַיָּבֹ֥אvai.ya.Vo'H935to thegateשַׁ֣עַרSha.'arH8179of their cityעִירָ֑ם'i.RamH5892and spokeוַֽיְדַבְּר֛וּvay.da.be.RuH1696to the peopleH376of their cityעִירָ֖ם'i.RamH5892,sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

21“Theseהָאֵ֜לֶּהha.'E.lehH428menH376arefriendlyשְֽׁלֵמִ֧יםshe.le.MimH8003to us; therefore let them liveוְיֵשְׁב֤וּve.ye.she.VuH3427in the landבָאָ֙רֶץ֙va.'A.retzH776and tradeוְיִסְחֲר֣וּve.yis.cha.RuH5503in it, for beholdהִנֵּ֥הhi.NehH2009,the landוְהָאָ֛רֶץve.ha.'A.retzH776islargeרַֽחֲבַת־ra.cha.vat-H7342 H3027enoughH3027for them. We will takeנִקַּֽח־ni.kach-H3947their daughtersבְּנֹתָם֙be.no.TamH1323in marriageלְנָשִׁ֔יםle.na.ShimH802,and giveנִתֵּ֥ןni.TenH5414our daughtersבְּנֹתֵ֖ינוּbe.no.Tei.nuH1323to them.

22Onlyאַךְ־'akh-H389on thisH2088conditionwill the menH376consentיֵאֹ֨תוּye.'O.tuH225to us to liveלָשֶׁ֣בֶתla.She.vetH3427with us, to becomeלִהְי֖וֹתlih.YotH1961oneאֶחָ֑ד'e.ChadH259peopleלְעַ֣םle.'AmH5971:that everyכָּל־kol-H3605maleזָכָ֔רza.KharH2145among us be circumcisedבְּהִמּ֥וֹלbe.hi.MolH4135justH3512asH3512they are circumcisedנִמֹּלִֽים׃ni.mo.LimH4135.

23Will their livestockמִקְנֵהֶ֤םmik.ne.HemH4735and their propertyוְקִנְיָנָם֙ve.kin.ya.NamH7075and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605their animalsבְּהֶמְתָּ֔םbe.hem.TamH929not be ours? Let’s justאַ֚ךְ'akhH389consentנֵא֣וֹתָהne.'o.tahH225to them, and they will liveוְיֵשְׁב֖וּve.ye.she.VuH3427with us.”

24Allכָּל־kol-H3605who wentH3318outH3318of the gateשַׁ֣עַרSha.'arH8179of his cityעִיר֑וֹi.RoH5892listenedוַיִּשְׁמְע֤וּvai.yish.me.'UH8085to Hamorחֲמוֹר֙cha.mOrH2544and to his sonבְּנ֔וֹbe.NoH1121Shechemשְׁכֶ֣םshe.KhemH7927,and everyכָּל־kol-H3605maleזָכָ֔רza.KharH2145was circumcisedוַיִּמֹּ֙לוּ֙vai.yi.Mo.luH4135,allכָּל־kol-H3605who wentH3318outH3318of the gateשַׁ֥עַרSha.'arH8179of his cityעִירֽוֹ׃i.RoH5892.

25Now it cameוַיְהִי֩vay.HiH1961aboutבִּֽהְיוֹתָ֣םbih.yo.TamH1961on the thirdהַשְּׁלִישִׁ֜יha.she.li.ShiH7992dayבַיּ֨וֹםvai.YomH3117,when they wereH3510inH3510painכֹּֽאֲבִ֗יםko.'a.VimH3510,that twoשְׁנֵֽי־she.nei-H8147of Jacob’sיַ֠עֲקֹבya.'a.koH3290sonsבְנֵי־ve.nei-H1121--Simeonשִׁמְע֨וֹןshim.'onH8095and Leviוְלֵוִ֜יve.le.ViH3878,Dinah’sדִינָה֙di.NahH1783brothersאֲחֵ֤י'a.CheiH251--eachאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376tookוַיִּקְח֣וּvai.yik.ChuH3947his swordחַרְבּ֔וֹchar.BoH2719and cameוַיָּבֹ֥אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935upon the cityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892undetectedבֶּ֑טַחBe.tachH983,and killedוַיַּֽהַרְג֖וּvai.ya.har.GuH2026everyכָּל־kol-H3605maleזָכָֽר׃za.KharH2145.
