19“Then we setוַנִּסַּ֣עva.ni.Sa'H5265outH5265fromHorebמֵחֹרֵ֗בme.cho.RevH2722,and wentוַנֵּ֡לֶךְva.Ne.lekhH1980throughallכָּל־kol-H3605thatgreatהַגָּדוֹל֩ha.ga.dOlH1419and terribleוְהַנּוֹרָ֨אve.ha.no.Ra'H3372wildernessהַמִּדְבָּ֣רha.mid.BarH4057that you sawרְאִיתֶ֗םre.'i.TemH7200on the wayדֶּ֚רֶךְDe.rekhH1870to thehillהַ֣רharH2022countryH2022of the Amoritesהָֽאֱמֹרִ֔יha.'e.mo.RiH567,justH3512asH3512the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068our Godאֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ'e.lo.Hei.nuH430had commandedצִוָּ֛הtzi.VahH6680us; and we cameוַנָּבֹ֕אva.na.Vo'H935toKadesh-barneaH6947.

20And I saidוָאֹמַ֖רva.'o.MarH559to you, ‘You have comeבָּאתֶם֙ba.TemH935to the hillהַ֣רharH2022countryH2022of the Amoritesהָאֱמֹרִ֔יha.'e.mo.RiH567,whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068our Godאֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ'e.lo.Hei.nuH430is about to giveנֹתֵ֥ןno.TenH5414us.

21Seeרְ֠אֵהRe.'ehH7200,the Lordיְהוָ֧הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ'e.lo.Hei.khaH430has placedנָתַ֨ןna.TanH5414the landהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776beforeלְפָנֶ֖יךָle.fa.Nei.khaH6440you; goעֲלֵ֣ה'a.LehH5927upH5927,takeרֵ֗שׁReshH3423possessionH3423,justH3512asH3512the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵ֤י'e.lo.HeiH430of your fathersאֲבֹתֶ֙יךָ֙'a.vo.Tei.khaH1,has spokenדִּבֶּ֨רdi.BerH1696to you.Do not fearתִּירָ֖אti.Ra'H3372or be dismayedתֵּחָֽת׃te.ChatH2865.’

22“Then allכֻּלְּכֶם֒ku.le.KhemH3605of you approachedוַתִּקְרְב֣וּןva.tik.re.VunH7126me and saidוַתֹּאמְר֗וּva.to.me.RuH559, ‘Let us sendנִשְׁלְחָ֤הnish.le.ChahH7971menH376aheadלְפָנֵ֔ינוּle.fa.Nei.nuH6440of us, so that they may spyוְיַחְפְּרוּ־ve.yach.pe.ru-H2658outH2658the landהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776for us, and bringוְיָשִׁ֤בוּve.ya.Shi.vuH7725backH7725to us wordדָּבָ֔רda.VarH1697of the wayהַדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ha.De.rekhH1870by whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834we should goנַעֲלֶה־na.'a.leh-H5927upH5927,and the citiesהֶֽעָרִ֔יםhe.'a.RimH5892whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834we should enterנָבֹ֖אna.Vo'H935.’

23Theplanהַדָּבָ֑רha.da.VarH1697pleasedוַיִּיטַ֥ב בְּעֵינַ֖יvai.yi.Tav be.'ei.NaiH3190 H5869me, and I tookוָאֶקַּ֤חva.'e.KachH3947twelveשְׁנֵ֣ים עָשָׂ֣רshe.Neim 'a.SarH8147 H6240of your menאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376,oneאֶחָ֖ד'e.ChadH259manH376for each tribeלַשָּֽׁבֶט׃la.Sha.vetH7626.

24Thenthey turnedוַיִּפְנוּ֙vai.yif.NuH6437and wentH5927upH5927into the hillהָהָ֔רָהha.Ha.rahH2022countryH2022,and cameוַיָּבֹ֖אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935to the Valleyנַ֣חַלNa.chalH5158of Eshcolאֶשְׁכֹּ֑ל'esh.KolH812,and spiedH7270it outH7270.

25And they tookוַיִּקְח֤וּvai.yik.ChuH3947someof the fruitמִפְּרִ֣יmi.pe.RiH6529of the landהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776in their handsבְיָדָם֙ve.ya.DamH3027and broughtH3381it downוַיּוֹרִ֖דוּvai.yo.Ri.duH3381to us. They also broughtH7725us backוַיָּשִׁ֨בוּvai.ya.Shi.vuH7725a reportדָבָר֙da.VarH1697and saidוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559, ‘The landהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776that the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068our Godאֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ'e.lo.Hei.nuH430is about to giveנֹתֵ֥ןno.TenH5414us is goodטוֹבָ֣הto.VahH2896.’

26“Yet you were unwillingוְלֹ֥א אֲבִיתֶ֖םve.Lo' 'a.vi.TemH3808 H14to goלַעֲלֹ֑תla.'a.LotH5927upH5927; instead yourebelledוַתַּמְר֕וּva.tam.RuH4784againstH854thecommandפִּ֥יpiH6310of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃'e.lo.hei.KhemH430;

27andyou grumbledוַתֵּרָגְנ֤וּva.te.ra.ge.NuH7279in your tentsבְאָהֳלֵיכֶם֙ve.'o.ho.lei.KhemH168and saidוַתֹּ֣אמְר֔וּva.To.me.RuH559, ‘Because the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068hatesבְּשִׂנְאַ֤תbe.sin.'AtH8135us, He has broughtH3318us outH3318of the landמֵאֶ֣רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרָ֑יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714,to handבְּיַ֥דbe.YadH3027 H5414us overH5414to the Amoritesהָאֱמֹרִ֖יha.'e.mo.RiH567to destroyלְהַשְׁמִידֵֽנוּ׃le.hash.mi.De.nuH8045us.

28Whereאָנָ֣ה׀'a.NahH575can we goH5927upH5927?Our brothersאַחֵינוּ֩'a.chei.NuH251have made our heartsלְבָבֵ֜נוּle.va.Ve.nuH3824meltהֵמַ֨סּוּhe.Ma.suH4549, bysayingלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559, “The peopleעַ֣ם'amH5971are biggerגָּד֤וֹלga.DolH1419and tallerוָרָם֙va.RamH7311thanמִמֶּ֔נּוּmi.Me.nuH4480we; the citiesעָרִ֛ים'a.RimH5892are largeגְּדֹלֹ֥תge.do.LotH1419and fortifiedוּבְצוּרֹ֖תu.ve.tzu.RotH1219upto heavenבַּשָּׁמָ֑יִםba.sha.Ma.yimH8064.And besidesוְגַם־ve.gam-H1571,we sawרָאִ֥ינוּra.'I.nuH7200the sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of the Anakimעֲנָקִ֖ים'a.na.KimH6062thereשָֽׁם׃ShamH8033.”’

29But I saidוָאֹמַ֖רva.'o.MarH559to you, ‘Do not be terrifiedתַֽעַרְצ֥וּןta.'ar.TzunH6206,norH3808fearתִֽירְא֖וּןtir.'UnH3372them.

30The Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם֙'e.lo.hei.KhemH430,who goesהַהֹלֵ֣ךְha.ho.LekhH1980beforeלִפְנֵיכֶ֔םlif.nei.KhemH6440you, willHimselfה֖וּאhu'H1931fightיִלָּחֵ֣םyi.la.ChemH3898for you,justכְּ֠כֹל אֲשֶׁ֨רKe.khol 'a.SherH3605 H834as He didעָשָׂ֧ה'a.SahH6213for you in Egyptבְּמִצְרַ֖יִםbe.mitz.Ra.yimH4714before your eyesלְעֵינֵיכֶֽם׃le.'ei.nei.KhemH5869,

31and in the wildernessוּבַמִּדְבָּר֙u.va.mid.BarH4057whereH834you sawרָאִ֔יתָra.'I.taH7200howH834the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ'e.lo.Hei.khaH430carriedנְשָׂאֲךָ֙ne.sa.'a.KhaH5375you, justH3512asH3512a manאִ֖ישׁ'ishH376carriesיִשָּׂא־yi.sa'-H5375his sonבְּנ֑וֹbe.NoH1121,on allבְּכָל־be.kholH3605of the roadהַדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ha.De.rekhH1870whichH834you have walkedהֲלַכְתֶּ֔םha.lakh.TemH1980untilH5704you cameבֹּאֲכֶ֖םbo.'a.KhemH935to thisהַזֶּֽה׃ha.ZehH2088placeהַמָּק֥וֹםha.ma.KomH4725.’

32Yetin spite of all thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088,you did not trustמַאֲמִינִ֔םma.'a.mi.NimH539the Lordבַּיהוָ֖הba.Yah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃'e.lo.hei.KhemH430,

33who goesהַהֹלֵ֨ךְha.ho.LekhH1980beforeלִפְנֵיכֶ֜םlif.nei.KhemH6440you on yourwayבַּדֶּ֗רֶךְba.De.rekhH1870,to seekלָת֥וּרla.TurH8446outH8446a placeמָק֖וֹםma.KomH4725for you to makeH2583campH2583,in the fireבָּאֵ֣שׁ׀ba.'EshH784by nightלַ֗יְלָהLay.lahH3915to showלַרְאֹֽתְכֶם֙lar.'o.te.KhemH7200you the wayבַּדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ba.De.rekhH1870by whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834you should goתֵּֽלְכוּ־te.le.khu-H1980,and in the cloudוּבֶעָנָ֖ןu.ve.'a.NanH6051by dayיוֹמָֽם׃yo.MamH3119.

34“Then the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068heardוַיִּשְׁמַ֥עvai.yish.Ma'H8085the soundק֣וֹלKolH6963of your wordsדִּבְרֵיכֶ֑םdiv.rei.KhemH1697,and He wasH7107angryוַיִּקְצֹ֖ףvai.yik.TzofH7107andsworeוַיִּשָּׁבַ֥עvai.yi.sha.Va'H7650anH7650oathH7650,sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

35‘Not oneH376of theseהָאֵ֔לֶּהha.'E.lehH428menH376,thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088evilהָרָ֖עha.Ra'H7451generationהַדּ֥וֹרha.DorH1755,shall seeיִרְאֶ֥הyir.'EhH7200the goodהַטּוֹבָ֔הha.to.VahH2896landהָאָ֣רֶץha.'A.retzH776whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834I sworeנִשְׁבַּ֔עְתִּיnish.Ba'.tiH7650to giveלָתֵ֖תla.TetH5414your fathersלַאֲבֹתֵיכֶֽם׃la.'a.vo.tei.KhemH1,

36exceptזֽוּלָתִ֞יzu.la.TiH2108Calebכָּלֵ֤בka.LevH3612the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Jephunnehיְפֻנֶּה֙ye.fu.NehH3312;he shall seeיִרְאֶ֔נָּהyir.'E.nahH7200it, andto him I will giveאֶתֵּ֧ן'e.TenH5414the landהָאָ֛רֶץha.'A.retzH776on whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834he has setH1869footH1869,and to his sonsוּלְבָנָ֑יוu.le.va.NavH1121,becauseיַ֕עַן אֲשֶׁ֥רYa.'an 'a.SherH3282 H834he has followedאַחֲרֵ֥י'a.cha.ReiH310the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068fullyמִלֵּ֖אmi.Le'H4390.’

37The Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068was angryהִתְאַנַּ֣ףhit.'a.NafH599with me alsoגַּם־gam-H1571on your accountבִּגְלַלְכֶ֖םbig.lal.KhemH1558,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, ‘Not evenגַּם־gam-H1571you shall enterתָבֹ֥אta.Vo'H935thereשָֽׁם׃ShamH8033.

38Joshuaיְהוֹשֻׁ֤עַye.ho.Shu.a'H3091the sonבִּןbin-H1121of Nunנוּן֙nunH5126,who standsהָעֹמֵ֣דha.'o.MedH5975beforeלְפָנֶ֔יךָle.fa.Nei.khaH6440you,shall himselfH1931enterיָ֣בֹאYa.vo'H935thereשָׁ֑מָּהSha.mahH8033;encourageחַזֵּ֔קcha.ZekH2388him, forhe will giveיַנְחִלֶ֥נָּהyan.chi.Le.nahH5157it to Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478asH5157anH5157inheritanceH5157.

39Moreover,your littleוְטַפְּכֶם֩ve.ta.pe.KhemH2945onesH2945whoאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834,you saidאֲמַרְתֶּ֜ם'a.mar.TemH559,would becomeיִהְיֶ֗הyih.YehH1961plunderלָבַ֣זla.VazH957,and your sonsוּ֠בְנֵיכֶםU.ve.nei.khemH1121,whoאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834this dayהַיּוֹם֙hai.yOmH3117haveH3045noלֹא־lo'-H3808knowledgeH3045of goodט֣וֹבTovH2896and evilוָרָ֔עva.Ra'H7451,shall enterיָבֹ֣אוּya.Vo.'uH935thereשָׁ֑מָּהSha.mahH8033,and I will giveאֶתְּנֶ֔נָּה'et.te.Ne.nahH5414it to them and they shall take possessionיִירָשֽׁוּהָ׃yi.ra.Shu.haH3423of it.

40But as for you,turnפְּנ֣וּpe.NuH6437aroundH6437and setוּסְע֥וּu.se.'UH5265outH5265for the wildernessהַמִּדְבָּ֖רָהha.mid.Ba.rahH4057by the wayדֶּ֥רֶךְDe.rekhH1870of theRedסֽוּף׃SufH5488Seaיַם־yam-H3220.’

41“Then you repliedוַֽתַּעֲנ֣וּ׀ וַתֹּאמְר֣וּva.ta.'a.Nu va.to.me.RuH6030 H559to me, ‘We have sinnedחָטָאנוּ֮cha.ta.NuH2398against the Lordלַֽיהוָה֒la.Yah.wehH3068;we ourselvesאֲנַ֤חְנוּ'a.Nach.nuH587will goנַעֲלֶה֙na.'a.LehH5927upH5927and fightוְנִלְחַ֔מְנוּve.nil.Cham.nuH3898,justכְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־ke.Khol 'a.Sher-H3605 H834as the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068our Godאֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ'e.lo.Hei.nuH430commandedצִוָּ֖נוּtzi.Va.nuH6680us.’ And everyH376manH376of you strappedH2296onH2296his weaponsכְּלֵ֣יke.LeiH3627of warמִלְחַמְתּ֔וֹmil.cham.ToH4421,and you viewedH1951it asH1951easyH1951to goלַעֲלֹ֥תla.'a.LotH5927upH5927into the hillהָהָֽרָה׃ha.Ha.rahH2022countryH2022.

42But the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to me, ‘Sayאֱמֹ֤ר'e.MorH559to them, “Do not goתַֽעֲלוּ֙ta.'a.LuH5927upH5927norH3808fightתִלָּ֣חֲמ֔וּti.La.cha.MuH3898,for I am not amongבְּקִרְבְּכֶ֑םbe.kir.be.KhemH7130you; otherwiseH3808you will bedefeatedתִּנָּֽגְפ֔וּti.na.ge.FuH5062by your enemiesH340.”’

43So I spokeוָאֲדַבֵּ֥רva.'a.da.BerH1696to you, but you would not listenשְׁמַעְתֶּ֑םshe.ma'.TemH8085. Instead,you rebelledוַתַּמְרוּ֙va.tam.RuH4784againstH854thecommandפִּ֣יpiH6310of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,and actedH2102presumptuouslyוַתָּזִ֖דוּva.ta.Zi.duH2102and wentH5927upH5927into the hillהָהָֽרָה׃ha.Ha.rahH2022countryH2022.

44And the Amoritesהָאֱמֹרִ֜יha.'e.mo.RiH567who livedהַיֹּשֵׁ֨בhai.yo.ShevH3427in that hillבָּהָ֤רba.HarH2022countryH2022cameH3318outH3318againstלִקְרַאתְכֶ֔םlik.rat.KhemH7122you and chasedוַיִּרְדְּפ֣וּvai.yir.de.FuH7291youas beesהַדְּבֹרִ֑יםha.de.vo.RimH1682doתַּעֲשֶׂ֖ינָהta.'a.Sei.nahH6213,and they scatteredוַֽיַּכְּת֥וּvai.ya.ke.TuH3807you from Seirבְּשֵׂעִ֖ירbe.se.'IrH8165to Hormahחָרְמָֽה׃cha.re.MahH2767.

45Then you returnedוַתָּשֻׁ֥בוּva.ta.Shu.vuH7725and weptוַתִּבְכּ֖וּva.tiv.KuH1058beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068; but theLordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068did not listenשָׁמַ֤עsha.Ma'H8085to your voiceבְּקֹ֣לְכֶ֔םbe.Ko.le.KhemH6963,norH3808payH238attentionH238to you.

46So you remainedוַתֵּשְׁב֥וּva.te.she.VuH3427atKadeshבְקָדֵ֖שׁve.ka.DeshH6946for manyרַבִּ֑יםra.BimH7227daysיָמִ֣יםya.MimH3117,the daysכַּיָּמִ֖יםkai.ya.MimH3117that you spentיְשַׁבְתֶּֽם׃ye.shav.TemH3427there.
