1“Ifכִּֽי־ki-H3588there is a disputeרִיב֙rivH7379betweenבֵּ֣יןbeinH996peopleH376and they goוְנִגְּשׁ֥וּve.ni.ge.ShuH5066tocourtהַמִּשְׁפָּ֖טha.mish.PatH4941, andthe judgesוּשְׁפָט֑וּםu.she.fa.TumH8199decideH8199their case,and they declareוְהִצְדִּ֙יקוּ֙ve.hitz.Di.kuH6663the righteousהַצַּדִּ֔יקha.tza.DikH6662innocentH6663and pronounceH7561the wickedהָרָשָֽׁע׃ha.ra.Sha'H7563guiltyוְהִרְשִׁ֖יעוּve.hir.Shi.'uH7561,

2then it shall be ifאִם־'im-H518the wickedH7563personH7563deservesבִּ֥ןbinH1121to be beatenהַכּ֖וֹתha.KotH5221,the judgeהַשֹּׁפֵט֙ha.sho.FetH8199shall then make him lieH5307downוְהִפִּיל֤וֹve.hi.pi.LoH5307and have him beatenוְהִכָּ֣הוּve.hi.Ka.huH5221in his presenceלְפָנָ֔יוle.fa.NavH6440with the numberבְּמִסְפָּֽר׃be.mis.ParH4557of lashesaccordingכְּדֵ֥יke.DeiH1767to hiswrongfulH7564actH7564.

3He may have him beatenיַכֶּ֖נּוּya.Ke.nuH5221fortyאַרְבָּעִ֥ים'ar.ba.'ImH705timesH705, butnot moreיֹסִ֑יףyo.SifH3254,soH6435thatH6435he does notH6435have him beatenלְהַכֹּת֤וֹle.ha.ko.ToH5221with manyרַבָּ֔הra.BahH7227moreיֹסִ֨יףyo.SifH3254lashesמַכָּ֣הma.KahH4347thanעַל־'al-H5921theseאֵ֙לֶּה֙'e.lehH428,and that your brotherאָחִ֖יךָ'a.Chi.khaH251does notbecomeH7034contemptibleH7034in your eyesלְעֵינֶֽיךָ׃ סle.'ei.Nei.khaH5869.

4“You shall not muzzleתַחְסֹ֥םtach.SomH2629the oxשׁ֖וֹרShorH7794while it is threshingבְּדִישֽׁוֹ׃ סbe.di.ShoH1758.

5“Whenכִּֽי־ki-H3588brothersאַחִ֜ים'a.ChimH251liveיֵשְׁב֨וּye.she.VuH3427togetherH3164,and oneאַחַ֤ד'a.ChadH259of them diesוּמֵ֨תu.MetH4191and hasH369noH369sonוּבֵ֣ןu.VenH1121,the wifeאֵֽשֶׁת־'e.shet-H802of the deceasedהַמֵּ֛תha.MetH4191shall not be marriedoutsideהַח֖וּצָהha.Chu.tzahH2351the familyto a strangeזָ֑רZarH2114manלְאִ֣ישׁle.'IshH376.Her husband’sיְבָמָהּ֙ye.va.MahH2993brotherH2993shall haveH935relationsH935withH935her and takeוּלְקָחָ֥הּu.le.ka.ChahH3947her to himself as hiswifeלְאִשָּׁ֖הle.'i.ShahH802,and performH2992the dutyH2992ofH2992aH2992husband’sוְיִבְּמָֽהּ׃ve.yi.be.MahH2992brotherH2992to her.

6It shall then be that the firstbornהַבְּכוֹר֙ha.be.khOrH1060to whomאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834she givesH3205birthH3205shallassumeיָק֕וּםya.KumH6965the nameשֵׁ֥םshemH8034of his father’sdeceasedהַמֵּ֑תha.MetH4191brotherאָחִ֖יו'a.ChivH251, so thathis nameשְׁמ֖וֹshe.MoH8034will not be wipedH4229outH4229from Israelמִיִּשְׂרָאֵֽל׃mi.Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

7But ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518the manהָאִ֔ישׁha.'IshH376does not desireיַחְפֹּץ֙yach.PotzH2654to takeלָקַ֖חַתla.Ka.chatH3947his brother’sיְבִמְתּ֑וֹye.vim.ToH2994widowH2994,then his brother’sיְבִמְתּ֨וֹye.vim.ToH2994widowH2994shall goוְעָלְתָה֩ve.'al.TahH5927upH5927to the gateהַשַּׁ֜עְרָהha.Sha'.rahH8179to the eldersהַזְּקֵנִ֗יםha.ze.ke.NimH2205,and sayוְאָֽמְרָה֙ve.'a.me.RahH559, ‘My husband’sיְבָמִ֜יye.va.MiH2993brotherH2993refusesמֵאֵ֨יןme.'EinH3985to establishלְהָקִ֨יםle.ha.KimH6965a nameשֵׁם֙shemH8034for his brotherלְאָחִ֥יוle.'a.ChivH251in Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478;he isH14not willingאָבָ֖ה'a.VahH14to performH2992the dutyH2992ofH2992aH2992husband’sיַבְּמִֽי׃ya.be.MiH2992brotherH2992to me.’

8Then the eldersזִקְנֵי־zik.nei-H2205of his cityעִיר֖וֹi.RoH5892shall summonוְקָֽרְאוּ־ve.ka.re.'u-H7121him and speakוְדִבְּר֣וּve.di.be.RuH1696to him. And ifhe persistsוְעָמַ֣דve.'a.MadH5975and saysוְאָמַ֔רve.'a.MarH559, ‘I do not desireחָפַ֖צְתִּיcha.Fatz.tiH2654to takeלְקַחְתָּֽהּ׃le.kach.TahH3947her,’

9then his brother’sאָחִֽיו'a.ChivH251widowיְבִמְתּ֣וֹye.vim.ToH2994shall comeH5066upH5066to him in the sightלְעֵינֵ֣יle.'ei.NeiH5869of the eldersהַזְּקֵנִים֒ha.ze.ke.NimH2205,and pullוְחָלְצָ֤הve.chal.TzahH2502his sandalנַעֲלוֹ֙na.'a.LoH5275offמֵעַ֣לme.'AlH4480 H5921his footרַגְל֔וֹrag.LoH7272andspitוְיָרְקָ֖הve.ya.re.KahH3417in his faceבְּפָנָ֑יוbe.fa.NavH6440; and she shalldeclareוְעָֽנְתָה֙ וְאָ֣מְרָ֔הve.'a.ne.Tah ve.'A.me.RahH6030 H559, ‘ThisH3602isH3602whatH3602is doneיֵעָשֶׂ֣הye.'a.SehH6213to the manלָאִ֔ישׁla.'IshH376whoאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834does not buildיִבְנֶ֖הyiv.NehH1129upH1129his brother’sH251houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004!’

10And in Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478his family shall be calledוְנִקְרָ֥אve.nik.Ra'H7121by the nameשְׁמ֖וֹshe.MoH8034, ‘The houseבֵּ֖יתbeitH1004of him whose sandalהַנָּֽעַל׃ סha.Na.'alH5275was removedחֲל֥וּץcha.LutzH2502.’

11“Ifכִּֽי־ki-H3588twomenH376,a manH376and his countrymanוְאָחִ֔יוve.'a.ChivH251,haveH5327aH5327fightH5327withH3164eachH3164otherH3164,and the wifeאֵ֣שֶׁת'E.shetH802of oneהָֽאֶחָ֔דha.'e.ChadH259comesH7126upH7126to saveלְהַצִּ֥ילle.ha.TzilH5337her husbandH376from the handמִיַּ֣דmi.YadH3027of the one who is hittingמַכֵּ֑הוּma.Ke.huH5221him, and she reachesH7971outH7971with her handיָדָ֔הּya.DahH3027and graspsוְהֶחֱזִ֖יקָהve.he.che.Zi.kahH2388that man’s genitalsבִּמְבֻשָֽׁיו׃bim.vu.ShavH4016,

12then you shall cutוְקַצֹּתָ֖הve.ka.tzo.TahH7112offH7112herhandכַּפָּ֑הּka.PahH3709;you shall not showH2347pityתָח֖וֹסta.ChosH2347.

13“You shall not haveיִהְיֶ֥הyih.YehH1961in your bagבְּכִֽיסְךָ֖be.khi.se.KhaH3599differingאֶ֣בֶן'E.venH68weightsוָאָ֑בֶןva.'A.venH68,a largeגְּדוֹלָ֖הge.do.LahH1419and a smallוּקְטַנָּֽה׃ סu.ke.ta.NahH6996.

14You shall not haveיִהְיֶ֥הyih.YehH1961in your houseבְּבֵיתְךָ֖be.vei.te.KhaH1004differingאֵיפָ֣ה'ei.FahH374measuresוְאֵיפָ֑הve.'ei.FahH374,a largeגְּדוֹלָ֖הge.do.LahH1419and a smallוּקְטַנָּֽה׃u.ke.ta.NahH6996.

15You shall haveיִֽהְיֶה־yih.yeh-H1961a correctשְׁלֵמָ֤הshe.le.MahH8003and honestוָצֶ֙דֶק֙va.Tze.dekH6664weightאֶ֣בֶן'E.venH68;you shall haveיִֽהְיֶה־yih.yeh-H1961a correctשְׁלֵמָ֛הshe.le.MahH8003and honestוָצֶ֖דֶקva.Tze.dekH6664measureאֵיפָ֧ה'ei.FahH374,soלְמַ֙עַן֙le.Ma.'anH4616thatH4616your daysיָמֶ֔יךָya.Mei.khaH3117may be prolongedיַאֲרִ֣יכוּya.'a.Ri.khuH748in the landהָֽאֲדָמָ֔הha.'a.da.MahH127whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ'e.lo.Hei.khaH430is givingנֹתֵ֥ןno.TenH5414you.

16Foreveryoneכָּל־kol-H3605whoH834doesעֹ֣שֵׂה'O.sehH6213theseH428thingsאֵ֑לֶּה'E.lehH428,everyoneכֹּ֖לkolH3605who actsעֹ֥שֵׂה'O.sehH6213unjustlyעָֽוֶל׃ פ'A.velH5766is an abominationתוֹעֲבַ֛תto.'a.VatH8441to the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ'e.lo.Hei.khaH430.

17“Rememberזָכ֕וֹרza.KhorH2142whatאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834Amalekעֲמָלֵ֑ק'a.ma.LekH6002didעָשָׂ֥ה'a.SahH6213to you on the wayבַּדֶּ֖רֶךְba.De.rekhH1870when you cameH3318outH3318of Egyptמִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃mi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714,

18howאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834he confrontedקָֽרְךָ֜ka.re.ChaH7136you on the wayבַּדֶּ֗רֶךְba.De.rekhH1870and attackedוַיְזַנֵּ֤בvay.za.NevH2179among you allכָּל־kol-H3605the stragglersהַנֶּחֱשָׁלִ֣יםha.ne.che.sha.LimH2826at your rearאַֽחַרֶ֔יךָ'a.cha.Rei.khaH310when you were tiredעָיֵ֣ף'a.YefH5889and wearyוְיָגֵ֑עַve.ya.Ge.a'H3023; and he did notfearיָרֵ֖אya.Re'H3372Godאֱלֹהִֽים׃'E.lo.HimH430.

19So it shall comeH1961aboutH1961,when the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֶ֣יךָ׀'e.lo.Hei.khaH430has givenH5117yourestבְּהָנִ֣יחַbe.ha.Ni.achH5117from allמִכָּל־mi.kolH3605your surroundingמִסָּבִ֗יבmi.sa.VivH5439enemiesH340in the landבָּאָ֙רֶץ֙ba.'A.retzH776whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834the Lordיְהוָֽה־Yah.weh-H3068your Godאֱ֠לֹהֶיךָ'E.lo.hei.khaH430is givingנֹתֵ֨ןno.TenH5414you as an inheritanceנַחֲלָה֙na.cha.LahH5159topossessלְרִשְׁתָּ֔הּle.rish.TahH3423,that you shall wipeתִּמְחֶה֙tim.ChehH4229outH4229the mentionזֵ֣כֶרZe.kherH2143of the nameAmalekעֲמָלֵ֔ק'a.ma.LekH6002from underמִתַּ֖חַתmi.Ta.chatH8478heavenהַשָּׁמָ֑יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064;you must not forgetתִּשְׁכָּֽח׃ פtish.KachH7911.
