1Now the dayהַיּ֗וֹםhai.YomH3117cameוַיְהִ֣יvay.HiH1961that JonathanH3083,the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Saulשָׁאוּל֙sha.'UlH7586,saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the youngהַנַּ֙עַר֙ha.Na.'arH5288manH5288who was carryingנֹשֵׂ֣אno.Se'H5375his armorכֵלָ֔יוkhe.LavH3627, “Comeלְכָ֗הle.KhahH1980,and let’s crossH5674overH5674to the Philistines’פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔יםpe.lish.TimH6430garrisonמַצַּ֣בma.TzavH4673that is on the otherהַלָּ֑זha.LazH1975sideמֵעֵ֣בֶרme.'E.verH5676.”But he did not tellהִגִּֽיד׃hi.GidH5046his fatherוּלְאָבִ֖יוu.le.'a.VivH1.
2Saulוְשָׁא֗וּלve.sha.'UlH7586was stayingיוֹשֵׁב֙yo.ShevH3427on the outskirtsבִּקְצֵ֣הbik.TzehH7097ofGibeahהַגִּבְעָ֔הha.giv.'AhH1390underתַּ֥חַתTa.chatH8478the pomegranateהָרִמּ֖וֹןha.ri.MonH7416treeH7416that is inMigronבְּמִגְר֑וֹןbe.mig.RonH4051.And the peopleוְהָעָם֙ve.ha.'AmH5971whoH834were with him numberedabout sixכְּשֵׁ֥שׁke.SheshH8337hundredמֵא֖וֹתme.'otH3967menאִֽישׁ׃'IshH376;
3and Ahijahוַאֲחִיָּ֣הva.'a.chi.YahH281, thesonבֶן־ven-H1121of Ahitubאֲחִט֡וּב'a.chi.TuvH285,Ichabod’sאִיכָב֣וֹד׀'i.kha.VodH350brotherאֲחִ֡י'a.ChiH251,the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Phinehasפִּינְחָ֨סpin.ChasH6372,the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Eliעֵלִ֜י'e.LiH5941,the priestכֹּהֵ֧ן׀ko.HenH3548of the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068atShilohבְּשִׁל֖וֹbe.shi.LoH7887, waswearingנֹשֵׂ֣אno.Se'H5375an ephodאֵפ֑וֹד'e.FodH646.And the peopleוְהָעָם֙ve.ha.'AmH5971did not knowיָדַ֔עya.Da'H3045that JonathanH3083had goneהָלַ֖ךְha.LakhH1980.
4Nowbetweenוּבֵ֣יןu.VeinH996the gorgesהַֽמַּעְבְּר֗וֹתha.ma'.be.RotH4569by whichאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834JonathanH3083soughtבִּקֵּ֤שׁbi.KeshH1245to crossH5674overH5674to the Philistines’פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔יםpe.lish.TimH6430garrisonמַצַּ֣בma.TzavH4673there was a rockyהַסֶּ֤לַעha.Se.la'H5553cragשֵׁן־shen-H8127on the oneמִזֶּ֔הmi.ZehH2088sideמֵהָעֵ֙בֶר֙me.ha.'E.verH5676,and a rockyהַסֶּ֥לַעha.Se.la'H5553cragוְשֵׁן־ve.shen-H8127on the otherמִזֶּ֑הmi.ZehH2088sideמֵהָעֵ֖בֶרme.ha.'E.verH5676;and the nameוְשֵׁ֤םve.ShemH8034of the oneהָֽאֶחָד֙ha.'e.ChadH259was Bozezבּוֹצֵ֔ץbo.TzetzH949,and the nameוְשֵׁ֥םve.ShemH8034of the otherהָאֶחָ֖דha.'e.ChadH259,Senehסֶֽנֶּה׃Se.nehH5573.
6Then Jonathanיְהוֹנָתָ֜ןye.ho.na.TanH3083saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the youngהַנַּ֣עַר׀ha.Na.'arH5288manH5288who was carryingנֹשֵׂ֣אno.Se'H5375his armorכֵלָ֗יוkhe.LavH3627, “Comeלְכָה֙le.KhahH1980,and let’s crossH5674overH5674to the garrisonמַצַּב֙ma.TzavH4673oftheseהָאֵ֔לֶּהha.'E.lehH428uncircumcisedהָעֲרֵלִ֣יםha.'a.re.LimH6189men;perhapsאוּלַ֛י'u.LaiH194the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068will workיַעֲשֶׂ֥הya.'a.SehH6213for us, becauseכִּ֣יkiH3588the Lordלַֽיהוָה֙la.Yah.wehH3068is not limitedמַעְצ֔וֹרma'.TzorH4622to savingלְהוֹשִׁ֥יעַle.ho.Shi.a'H3467by manyבְּרַ֖בbe.RavH7227orא֥וֹ'oH176by fewבִמְעָֽט׃vim.'AtH4592!”
7His armorכֵלָ֔יוkhe.LavH3627bearerנֹשֵׂ֣אno.Se'H5375saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Doעֲשֵׂ֖ה'a.SehH6213everythingכָּל־kol-H3605that is in your heartבִּלְבָבֶ֑ךָbil.va.Ve.khaH3824;turnנְטֵ֣הne.TehH5186yourself to it, andhereH2009I am with you, as your heartכִּלְבָבֶֽךָ׃ סkil.va.Ve.khaH3824desires.”
10But ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518theysayיֹאמְר֜וּyo.me.RuH559, ‘Comeעֲל֤וּ'a.LuH5927upH5927to us,’ then we will goוְעָלִ֔ינוּve.'a.Li.nuH5927upH5927,for the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068has handedבְּיָדֵ֑נוּbe.ya.De.nuH5414H3027them overH5414to us; andthisוְזֶה־ve.zeh-H2088shall bethe signהָאֽוֹת׃ha.'otH226to us.”
11When the twoשְׁנֵיהֶ֔םshe.nei.HemH8147of them revealedוַיִּגָּל֣וּvai.yi.ga.LuH1540themselves to the garrisonמַצַּ֖בma.TzavH4673of the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֑יםpe.lish.TimH6430,the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֔יםfe.lish.TimH6430saidוַיֹּאמְר֣וּvai.yo.me.RuH559, “Beholdהִנֵּ֤הhi.NehH2009,Hebrewsעִבְרִים֙'iv.RimH5680are comingH3318outH3318of the holesהַחֹרִ֖יםha.cho.RimH2356whereאֲשֶׁ֥ר שָֽׁם׃'a.Sher ShamH834H8033they have keptH2244themselves hiddenH2244.”
12So the menH376of the garrisonH4673respondedוַיַּעֲנוּ֩vai.ya.'a.NuH6030to JonathanH3083and his armorכֵלָ֗יוkhe.LavH3627bearerנֹשֵׂ֣אno.Se'H5375and saidוַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙vai.yo.me.RuH559, “Comeעֲל֣וּ'a.LuH5927upH5927to us andwe will informוְנוֹדִ֥יעָהve.no.Di.'ahH3045you of somethingדָּבָ֑ר פda.VarH1697.”And JonathanH3083saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to his armorכֵלָיו֙khe.LavH3627bearerנֹשֵׂ֤אno.Se'H5375, “Comeעֲלֵ֣ה'a.LehH5927upH5927afterאַחֲרַ֔י'a.cha.RaiH310me, forthe Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068has handedבְּיַ֥דbe.YadH5414H3027them overH5414to Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.”
13Then JonathanH3083climbedH5927upH5927on his handsיָדָיו֙ya.DavH3027and feetרַגְלָ֔יוrag.LavH7272,with his armorכֵלָ֖יוkhe.LavH3627bearerוְנֹשֵׂ֥אve.no.Se'H5375behindאַחֲרָ֑יו'a.cha.RavH310him; and the menfellוַֽיִּפְּלוּ֙vai.yi.pe.LuH5307beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440JonathanH3083,and his armorכֵלָ֖יוkhe.LavH3627bearerוְנֹשֵׂ֥אve.no.Se'H5375putH4191some toH4191deathH4191afterאַחֲרָֽיו׃'a.cha.RavH310him.
14Now that firstהָרִאשֹׁנָ֗הha.ri.sho.NahH7223slaughterהַמַּכָּ֣הha.ma.KahH4347whichאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834JonathanH3083and his armorכֵלָ֖יוkhe.LavH3627bearerוְנֹשֵׂ֥אve.no.Se'H5375inflictedהִכָּ֧הhi.KahH5221was about twentyכְּעֶשְׂרִ֣יםke.'es.RimH6242menאִ֑ישׁ'IshH376within about halfכְּבַחֲצִ֥יke.va.cha.TziH2677a furrowמַעֲנָ֖הma.'a.NahH4618in an acreצֶ֥מֶדTze.medH6776of landשָׂדֶֽה׃sa.DehH7704.
15And there was a tremblingחֲרָדָ֨הcha.ra.DahH2731in the campבַמַּחֲנֶ֤הva.ma.cha.NehH4264,in the fieldבַשָּׂדֶה֙va.sa.DehH7704,and among allוּבְכָל־u.ve.Khol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971.Evenגַּם־gam-H1571the garrisonהַמַּצָּב֙ha.ma.TzavH4673andthe raidersH4889trembledחָרְד֖וּcha.re.DuH2729, andthe earthהָאָ֔רֶץha.'A.retzH776quakedוַתִּרְגַּ֣זva.tir.GazH7264sothat it becameH1961agreatאֱלֹהִֽים׃'E.lo.HimH430tremblingלְחֶרְדַּ֥תle.cher.DatH2731.
16Now Saul’sלְשָׁא֔וּלle.sha.'UlH7586watchmenהַצֹּפִים֙ha.tzo.FimH6822in Gibeahבְּגִבְעַ֖תbe.giv.'AtH1390of Benjaminבִּנְיָמִ֑ןbin.ya.MinH1144lookedוַיִּרְא֤וּvai.yir.'UH7200,and beholdוְהִנֵּ֧הve.hi.NehH2009,the multitudeהֶהָמ֛וֹןhe.ha.MonH1995dissolvedנָמ֖וֹגna.MogH4127;they wentוַיֵּ֥לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980hereוַהֲלֹֽם׃ פva.ha.LomH1988and there.
17So Saulשָׁא֗וּלsha.'UlH7586saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the peopleלָעָם֙la.'AmH5971whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834werewith him, “LookH6485carefullyH6485nowנָ֣אna'H4994and seeוּרְא֔וּu.re.'UH7200whoמִ֖יmiH4310has leftהָלַ֣ךְha.LakhH1980H4480us.” And when they had lookedH6485,beholdוְהִנֵּ֛הve.hi.NehH2009,JonathanH3083and his armorכֵלָֽיו׃khe.LavH3627bearerוְנֹשֵׂ֥אve.no.Se'H5375were not there.
18Then Saulשָׁאוּל֙sha.'UlH7586saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Ahijahלַֽאֲחִיָּ֔הla.'a.chi.YahH281, “Bringהַגִּ֖ישָׁהha.Gi.shahH5066the arkאֲר֣וֹן'a.RonH727of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֑יםha.'E.lo.HimH430hereH5066.”For at that timeבַּיּ֥וֹםbai.YomH3117the arkאֲר֧וֹן'a.RonH727of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֛יםha.'E.lo.HimH430was with the sonsוּבְנֵ֥יu.ve.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.
19Whileעַ֣ד'adH5704Saulשָׁאוּל֙sha.'UlH7586talkedדִּבֶּ֤רdi.BerH1696to the priestהַכֹּהֵ֔ןha.ko.HenH3548,the commotionוְהֶהָמ֗וֹןve.he.ha.MonH1995in the campבְּמַחֲנֵ֣הbe.ma.cha.NehH4264of the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֔יםfe.lish.TimH6430continuedH1980and increasedוָרָ֑ב פva.RavH7227;so Saulשָׁא֛וּלsha.'UlH7586saidוַיֹּ֧אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the priestהַכֹּהֵ֖ןha.ko.HenH3548, “Withdrawאֱסֹ֥ף'e.SofH622your handיָדֶֽךָ׃ya.De.khaH3027.”
20Then Saulשָׁא֗וּלsha.'UlH7586and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834werewith him ralliedוַיִּזָּעֵ֣קvai.yi.za.'EkH2199and cameוַיָּבֹ֖אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935to the battleהַמִּלְחָמָ֑הha.mil.cha.MahH4421;and beholdוְהִנֵּ֨הve.hi.NehH2009,everyאִישׁ֙'ishH376man’s swordחֶ֤רֶבChe.revH2719was against his fellowבְּרֵעֵ֔הוּbe.re.'E.huH7453Philistine, and there wasveryמְאֹֽד׃me.'OdH3966greatגְּדוֹלָ֥הge.do.LahH1419confusionמְהוּמָ֖הme.hu.MahH4103.
21Now the Hebrewsוְהָעִבְרִ֗יםve.ha.'iv.RimH5680whowere with the Philistinesלַפְּלִשְׁתִּים֙la.pe.lish.TimH6430previouslyכְּאֶתְמ֣וֹל שִׁלְשׁ֔וֹםke.'et.Mol shil.ShomH865H8032,whoאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834wentH5927upH5927with them allH5439aroundH5439in the campבַּֽמַּחֲנֶ֖הba.ma.cha.NehH4264, eventhey alsoוְגַם־ve.gam-H1571returnedto be with the Israelitesיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478whoאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834werewith Saulשָׁא֖וּלsha.'UlH7586and JonathanH3083.
22When allוְכֹל֩ve.KholH3605themenאִ֨ישׁ'ishH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֜לYis.ra.'ElH3478who had keptH2244themselves hiddenH2244in the hillבְּהַר־be.har-H2022countryH2022of Ephraimאֶפְרַ֙יִם֙'ef.Ra.yimH669heardשָֽׁמְע֔וּsha.me.'UH8085that the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֑יםpe.lish.TimH6430had fledנָ֖סוּNa.suH5127,they alsoגַם־gam-H1571closelyוַֽיַּדְבְּק֥וּvai.yad.be.KuH1692pursuedH1692them in the battleבַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ba.mil.cha.MahH4421.
