1 Timothy 5:2-16

2the olderG4245 womenG4245 as mothersG3384, and the youngerG3501 womenG4245 as sistersG79, in allG3956 purityG47.

3HonorG5091 widowsG5503 who are 1widowsG5503 indeedG3689; 4but ifG1487 anyG5100 widowG5503 hasG2192 childrenG5043 orG2228 grandchildrenG1549, 2they must firstG4413 learnG3129 to practiceG2151 pietyG2151 in regard to their ownG2398 familyG3624 and to 3makeG591 some returnG591 to their parentsG4269; for thisG3778 is 4acceptableG587 in the sightG1799 of GodG2316. 5NowG1161 she who is a 5widowG5503 indeedG3689 and who has been leftG3443 aloneG3443, 6has fixedG1679 her hopeG1679 on GodG2316 and continuesG4357 in 7entreatiesG1162 and prayersG4335 nightG3571 and dayG2250. 6But she who 8givesG4684 herselfG4684 to wantonG4684 pleasureG4684 is 9deadG2348 even while she livesG2198. 7 10 11PrescribeG3853 theseG3778 thingsG3778 as wellG2532, soG2443 that they may be aboveG423 reproachG423. 8But ifG1487 anyoneG5100 does not provideG4306 for his ownG2398, and especiallyG3122 for those of his householdG3609, he has 12deniedG720 the faithG4102 and is worseG5501 than an unbelieverG571.

9A widowG5503 is to be 13putG2639 on the listG2639 only if she is not lessG1640 than sixtyG1835 yearsG2094 old, having been 14the wifeG1135 of oneG1520 manG435, 10havingG3140 a reputationG3140 for 15goodG2570 worksG2041; and ifG1487 she has broughtG5044 up childrenG5044, ifG1487 she has 16shownG3580 hospitalityG3580 to strangersG3580, ifG1487 she 17has washedG3538 the 18saints’G40 feetG4228, ifG1487 she has 19assistedG1884 those in distressG2346, and ifG1487 she has devotedG1872 herselfG1872 to everyG3956 goodG18 workG2041. 11But refuseG3868 to put youngerG3501 widowsG5503 on the list, for whenG3752 they feelG2691 20sensualG2691 desiresG2691 in disregardG2691 of ChristG5547, they wantG2309 to getG1060 marriedG1060, 12thus incurringG2192 condemnationG2917, becauseG3754 they have setG114 asideG114 their previousG4413 21pledgeG4102. 13At the sameG260 timeG260 they alsoG2532 learnG3129 to be idleG692, as they goG4022 aroundG4022 from houseG3614 to houseG3614; and not merelyG3441 idleG692, but alsoG2532 22gossipsG5397 and 23busybodiesG4021, talkingG2980 about 24thingsG1189 not properG1189 to mention. 14ThereforeG3767, I wantG1014 youngerG3501 widows to getG1060 25marriedG1060, bearG5041 childrenG5041, 26keepG3616 houseG3616, and 27giveG1325 the enemyG480 noG3367 occasionG874 for reproachG3059; 15for someG5100 28have alreadyG2235 turnedG1624 asideG1624 to followG3694 29SatanG4567. 16IfG1487 anyG5100 womanG5100 who is a believerG4103 30hasG2192 dependent widowsG5503, she must 31assistG1884 them and the churchG1577 must not be burdenedG916, soG2443 that it may assistG1884 thoseG3588 who are 32widowsG5503 indeedG3689.
