16Now the priestוּלְכֹהֵ֥ןu.le.kho.HenH3548of Midianמִדְיָ֖ןmid.YanH4080had sevenשֶׁ֣בַעShe.va'H7651daughtersבָּנ֑וֹתba.NotH1323,and they cameוַתָּבֹ֣אנָהva.ta.Vo.nahH935to draw waterוַתִּדְלֶ֗נָהva.tid.Le.nahH1802and fillוַתְּמַלֶּ֙אנָה֙va.te.ma.Le.nahH4390אֶת־'et-H853the troughsהָ֣רְהָטִ֔יםha.re.ha.TimH7298to waterלְהַשְׁק֖וֹתle.hash.KotH8248their father’sאֲבִיהֶֽן׃'a.vi.HenH1flockצֹ֥אןtzonH6629.

17And when some shepherdsהָרֹעִ֖יםha.ro.'ImH7462came alongוַיָּבֹ֥אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935and drove them awayוַיְגָרְשׁ֑וּםvay.ga.re.ShumH1644,Mosesמֹשֶׁה֙mo.ShehH4872rose upוַיָּ֤קָםvai.Ya.komH6965to help themוַיּ֣וֹשִׁעָ֔ןvai.Yo.o.shi.'AnH3467and wateredוַיַּ֖שְׁקְvai.YashkH8248אֶת־'et-H853their flockצֹאנָֽם׃tzo.NamH6629.

18When the daughters returnedוַתָּבֹ֕אנָהva.ta.Vo.nahH935toאֶל־'el-H413their fatherאֲבִיהֶ֑ן'a.vi.HenH1Reuelרְעוּאֵ֖לre.'u.'ElH7467,he asked themוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whyמַדּ֛וּעַma.Du.a'H4069have you returnedבֹּ֖אbo'H935so earlyמִהַרְתֶּ֥ןmi.har.TenH4116todayהַיּֽוֹם׃hai.YomH3117?”

19“An Egyptianמִצְרִ֔יmitz.RiH4713rescued usהִצִּילָ֖נוּhi.tzi.La.nuH5337fromמִיַּ֣דmi.YadH3027the shepherdsהָרֹעִ֑יםha.ro.'ImH7462,”they repliedוַתֹּאמַ֕רְןָ אִ֣ישׁva.to.Mar.na 'ishH559 H376. “He evenוְגַם־ve.gam-H1571drew waterH1802for usand wateredוַיַּ֖שְׁקְvai.YashkH8248אֶת־'et-H853the flockהַצֹּֽאן׃ha.TzonH6629.”

20“So where is heוְאַיּ֑וֹve.'ai.YoH335?” their fatheraskedוַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֶל־ בְּנֹתָ֖יוvai.Yo.mer 'el- be.no.TavH559 H413 H1323. “Whyלָ֤מָּה זֶּה֙La.mah zehH4100 H2088did you leave the manהָאִ֔ישׁha.'IshH376behindעֲזַבְתֶּ֣ן'a.zav.TenH5800אֶת־'et-H853?Inviteקִרְאֶ֥ןkir.'EnH7121himto have something to eatוְיֹ֥אכַל לָֽחֶם׃ve.Yo.khal La.chemH398 H3899.”

21Mosesמֹשֶׁ֖הmo.ShehH4872agreedוַיּ֥וֹאֶלvai.Yo.'elH2974to stayלָשֶׁ֣בֶתla.She.vetH3427withאֶת־'et-H854the manהָאִ֑ישׁha.'IshH376,and he gaveוַיִּתֵּ֛ןvai.yi.TenH5414אֶת־'et-H853his daughterבִתּ֖וֹvi.ToH1323Zipporahצִפֹּרָ֥הtzi.po.RahH6855to Moses in marriageלְמֹשֶֽׁה׃le.mo.ShehH4872.

22And she gave birth toוַתֵּ֣לֶדva.Te.ledH3205a sonבֵּ֔ןBenH1121,and Moses named himוַיִּקְרָ֥א אֶת־ שְׁמ֖וֹvai.yik.Ra' 'et- she.MoH7121 H853 H8034Gershomגֵּרְשֹׁ֑םge.re.ShomH1647,כִּ֣יkiH3588sayingאָמַ֔ר'a.MarH559, “I have becomeהָיִ֔יתִיha.Yi.tiH1961a foreignerגֵּ֣רgerH1616in a foreignנָכְרִיָּֽה׃ פna.khe.ri.YahH5237landבְּאֶ֖רֶץbe.'E.retzH776.”
