17Afterוְאַֽחֲרֵ֥יve.'a.cha.ReiH310the deathמוֹת֙mOtH4194of Jehoiada, howeverיְה֣וֹיָדָ֔עye.Ho.ya.Da'H3077,the officialsשָׂרֵ֣יsa.ReiH8269of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063cameבָּ֚אוּBa.'uH935and paid homageוַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲו֖וּvai.yish.ta.cha.VuH7812to the kingלַמֶּ֑לֶךְla.Me.lekhH4428,andאָ֛ז'azH227heהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428listenedשָׁמַ֥עsha.Ma'H8085to themאֲלֵיהֶֽם׃'a.lei.HemH413.

18They abandonedוַיַּֽעַזְב֗וּvai.ya.'az.VuH5800אֶת־'et-H853the houseבֵּ֤יתbeitH1004of the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of their fathersאֲבוֹתֵיהֶ֔ם'a.vo.tei.HemH1,and servedוַיַּֽעַבְד֥וּvai.ya.'av.DuH5647אֶת־'et-H853the Asherah polesהָאֲשֵׁרִ֖יםha.'a.she.RimH842וְאֶת־ve.'EtH853and idolsהָֽעֲצַבִּ֑יםha.'a.tza.BimH6091.So wrathקֶ֗צֶףKe.tzefH7110cameוַֽיְהִי־vay.hi-H1961uponעַל־'al-H5921Judahיְהוּדָה֙ye.hu.DahH3063and Jerusalemוִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔םvi.Ru.sha.LimH3389for thisזֹֽאת׃ZotH2063guilt of theirsבְּאַשְׁמָתָ֖םbe.'ash.ma.TamH819.

19Nevertheless, the LORD sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֤חvai.yish.LachH7971prophetsנְבִאִ֔יםne.vi.'ImH5030to bring the people backלַהֲשִׁיבָ֖םla.ha.shi.VamH7725toאֶל־'el-H413Himיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068and to testifyוַיָּעִ֥ידוּvai.ya.'I.duH5749against them,but they would notוְלֹ֥אve.Lo'H3808listenהֶאֱזִֽינוּ׃ סhe.'e.Zi.nuH238.

20Then the Spiritוְר֣וּחַve.Ru.achH7307of Godאֱלֹהִ֗ים'E.lo.HimH430came uponלָֽבְשָׁה֙la.ve.ShahH3847אֶת־'et-H853Zechariahזְכַרְיָה֙ze.khar.YahH2148sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Jehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָ֣עye.ho.ya.Da'H3077the priestהַכֹּהֵ֔ןha.ko.HenH3548,who stood upוַֽיַּעֲמֹ֖דvai.ya.'a.ModH5975beforeמֵעַ֣לme.'AlH5921the peopleלָעָ֑םla.'AmH5971and saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to them, “This is whatכֹּ֣ה׀kohH3541Godהָאֱלֹהִ֗יםha.'E.lo.HimH430saysאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559: ‘Whyלָמָה֩la.MahH4100do youאַתֶּ֨ם'a.TemH859transgressעֹבְרִ֜ים'oe.RimH5674אֶת־'et-H853the commandmentsמִצְוֹ֤תmitz.VotH4687of the LORDיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068so that you cannotוְלֹ֣אve.Lo'H3808prosperתַצְלִ֔יחוּtatz.Li.chuH6743?Becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588you have forsakenעֲזַבְתֶּ֥ם'a.zav.TemH5800אֶת־'et-H853the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068,He has forsakenוַיַּֽעֲזֹ֥בvai.ya.'a.ZoH5800youאֶתְכֶֽם׃'et.KhemH853.’”

21But they conspiredוַיִּקְשְׁר֣וּvai.yik.she.RuH7194against Zechariahעָלָ֔יו'a.LavH5921,and by orderבְּמִצְוַ֣תbe.mitz.VatH4687of the kingהַמֶּ֑לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428,they stoned himוַיִּרְגְּמֻ֥הוּ אֶ֖בֶןvai.yir.ge.Mu.hu 'E.venH7275 H68in the courtyardבַּחֲצַ֖רba.cha.TzarH2691of the houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004of the LORDיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.

22Thus Kingהַמֶּ֗לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Joashיוֹאָ֣שׁyo.'AshH3101failed toוְלֹא־ve.lo'-H3808rememberזָכַ֞רza.KharH2142the kindnessהַחֶ֙סֶד֙ha.Che.sedH2617thatאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834Zechariah’s fatherאָבִיו֙'a.VivH1Jehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָ֤עye.ho.ya.Da'H3077had extendedעָשָׂ֜ה'a.SahH6213to himעִמּ֔וֹi.MoH5973.Instead, Joash killedוַֽיַּהֲרֹ֖גvai.ya.ha.RogH2026אֶת־'et-H853Jehoiada’ssonבְּנ֑וֹbe.NoH1121.As he lay dyingוּכְמוֹת֣וֹu.khe.mo.ToH4191, Zechariahsaidאָמַ֔ר'a.MarH559, “May the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068see thisיֵ֥רֶאYe.re'H7200and call you to accountוְיִדְרֹֽשׁ׃ פve.yid.RoshH1875.”

23וַיְהִ֣י׀vay.HiH1961In the springלִתְקוּפַ֣ת הַשָּׁנָ֗הlit.ku.Fat ha.sha.NahH8622 H8141,the army of Aramאֲרָם֒'a.RamH758went to warעָלָ֣ה'a.LahH5927against Joashעָלָיו֮ חֵ֣יל'a.Lav cheilH5921 H2428.They enteredוַיָּבֹ֗אוּ אֶל־vai.ya.Vo.'u 'el-H935 H413Judahיְהוּדָה֙ye.hu.DahH3063and Jerusalemוִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔םvi.Ru.sha.LimH3389and destroyedוַיַּשְׁחִ֛יתוּvai.yash.Chi.tuH7843אֶת־'et-H853allכָּל־kol-H3605the leadersשָׂרֵ֥יsa.ReiH8269of the peopleהָעָ֖םha.'AmH5971מֵעָ֑םme.'AmH5971,and they sentשִׁלְּח֖וּshi.le.ChuH7971allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the plunderשְׁלָלָ֥םshe.la.LamH7998to their kingלְמֶ֥לֶךְle.Me.lekhH4428in Damascusדַּרְמָֽשֶׂק׃dar.Ma.sekH1834.

24Althoughכִּי֩kiH3588the Arameanאֲרָ֗ם'a.RamH758armyחֵ֣ילcheilH2428had comeבָּ֣אוּ׀Ba.'uH935with only a fewבְמִצְעַ֨רve.mitz.'ArH4705menאֲנָשִׁ֜ים'a.na.ShimH582,the LORDוַֽיהוָה֙va.Yah.wehH3068deliveredנָתַ֨ןna.TanH5414into their handבְּיָדָ֥םbe.ya.DamH3027a veryמְאֹ֔דme.'OdH3966greatלָרֹ֣בla.RoH7230armyחַ֙יִל֙cha.yilH2428.Becauseכִּ֣יkiH3588Judah had forsakenעָֽזְב֔וּ'a.ze.VuH5800אֶת־'et-H853the LORDיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of their fathersאֲבוֹתֵיהֶ֑ם'a.vo.tei.HemH1,judgmentשְׁפָטִֽים׃she.fa.TimH8201was executedעָשׂ֥וּ'a.SuH6213onוְאֶת־ve.'EtH854Joashיוֹאָ֖שׁyo.'AshH3101.

25And when the Arameans had withdrawnוּבְלֶכְתָּ֣ם מִמֶּ֗נּוּu.ve.lekh.Tam mi.Me.nuH1980 H4480כִּֽי־ki-H3588,they leftעָזְב֣וּ'a.ze.VuH5800Joashאֹתוֹ֮'o.ToH853severelyרַבִּים֒ra.BimH7227woundedבְּמַחֲלוּיִ֣םbe.ma.cha.li.yimH4251.His own servantsעֲבָדָ֗יו'a.va.DavH5650conspiredהִתְקַשְּׁר֨וּhit.ka.she.RuH7194against himעָלָ֜יו'a.LavH5921for shedding the bloodבִּדְמֵי֙bid.MeiH1818of the sonבְּנֵי֙be.NeiH1121of Jehoiadaיְהוֹיָדָ֣עye.ho.ya.Da'H3077the priestהַכֹּהֵ֔ןha.ko.HenH3548,and they killed himוַיַּֽהַרְגֻ֥הוּvai.ya.har.Gu.huH2026onעַל־'al-H5921his bedמִטָּת֖וֹmi.ta.ToH4296.So he diedוַיָּמֹ֑תvai.ya.MotH4191and was buriedוַֽיִּקְבְּרֻ֙הוּ֙vai.yik.be.Ru.huH6912in the Cityבְּעִ֣ירbe.'IrH5892of Davidדָּוִ֔ידda.VidH1732,but notוְלֹ֥אve.Lo'H3808קְבָרֻ֖הוּke.va.Ru.huH6912in the tombsבְּקִבְר֥וֹתbe.kiv.RotH6913of the kingsהַמְּלָכִֽים׃ סha.me.la.KhimH4428.
