Numbers 21

1And the CanaaniteH3669, the kingH4428 of AradH6166, who dweltH3427 in the SouthH5045, heardH8085 tell that IsraelH3478 cameH935 by the wayH1870 of Atharim; and he foughtH3898 against IsraelH3478, and tookH7617 some of them captiveH7617. 2And IsraelH3478 vowedH5087 a vowH5088 unto Jehovah, and saidH559, If thou wilt indeed deliver this peopleH5971 into my handH3027, then I will utterly destroyH2763 their citiesH5892. 3And Jehovah hearkened to the voiceH6963 of IsraelH3478, and delivered up the CanaanitesH3669; and they utterly destroyed them and their citiesH5892: and the nameH8034 of the placeH4725 was calledH7121 HormahH2767.

4And they journeyed from mount HorH2023 by the wayH1870 to the Red SeaH3220, to compass the landH776 of EdomH123: and the soulH5315 of the peopleH5971 was much discouraged because of the wayH1870. 5And the peopleH5971 spake against GodH430, and against MosesH4872, Wherefore have ye broughtH5927 us up out of EgyptH4714 to dieH4191 in the wildernessH4057? for there is no breadH3899, and there is no waterH4325; and our soulH5315 loatheth this light breadH3899. 6And Jehovah sentH7971 fiery serpents among the peopleH5971, and they bit the peopleH5971; and muchH7227 peopleH5971 of IsraelH3478 diedH4191. 7And the peopleH5971 cameH935 to MosesH4872, and saidH559, We have sinnedH2398, because we have spokenH1696 against Jehovah, and against thee; prayH6419 unto Jehovah, that he take awayH5493 the serpents from us. And MosesH4872 prayedH6419 for the peopleH5971. 8And Jehovah saidH559 unto MosesH4872, MakeH7760 thee a fiery serpent, and setH7760 it upon a standardH5251: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he seeth it, shall live. 9And MosesH4872 madeH6213 a serpent of brass, and setH7760 it upon the standardH5251: and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any manH376, when he lookedH5027 unto the serpent of brass, he lived.

10And the children of IsraelH3478 journeyed, and encampedH2583 in ObothH88. 11And they journeyed from ObothH88, and encampedH2583 at Iye-abarimH5863, in the wildernessH4057 which is before MoabH4124, toward the sunrising. 12From thence they journeyed, and encampedH2583 in the valley of ZeredH2218. 13From thence they journeyed, and encampedH2583 on the otherH5676 sideH5676 of the ArnonH769, which is in the wildernessH4057, that cometh out of the borderH1366 of the AmoritesH567: for the ArnonH769 is the borderH1366 of MoabH4124, between MoabH4124 and the AmoritesH567. 14Wherefore it is saidH559 in the bookH5612 of the WarsH4421 of Jehovah,

16And from thence they journeyed to BeerH876: that is the wellH875 whereof Jehovah saidH559 unto MosesH4872, GatherH622 the peopleH5971 together, and I will giveH5414 them waterH4325.

17ThenH227 sangH7891 IsraelH3478 this songH7892:

And from the wildernessH4057they journeyedto MattanahH4980; 19and from MattanahH4980 to NahalielH5160; and from NahalielH5160 to BamothH1120; 20and from BamothH1120 to the valleyH1516 that is in the fieldH7704 of MoabH4124, to the topH7218 of PisgahH6449, which looketh downH8259 upon the desert.

21And IsraelH3478 sentH7971 messengersH4397 unto SihonH5511 kingH4428 of the AmoritesH567, sayingH559, 22Let me passH5674 through thy landH776: we will not turnH5186 asideH5186 into fieldH7704, or into vineyardH3754; we will not drinkH8354 of the waterH4325 of the wellsH875: we will go by the king’sH4428 highway, until we have passedH5674 thy borderH1366. 23And SihonH5511 would not suffer IsraelH3478 to passH5674 through his borderH1366: but SihonH5511 gatheredH622 all his peopleH5971 together, and wentH3318 out against IsraelH3478 into the wildernessH4057, and cameH935 to JahazH3096; and he foughtH3898 against IsraelH3478. 24And IsraelH3478 smote him with the edge of the swordH2719, and possessedH3423 his landH776 from the ArnonH769 unto the JabbokH2999, even unto the children of AmmonH5983; for the borderH1366 of the children of AmmonH5983 was strongH5794. 25And IsraelH3478 tookH3947 all these citiesH5892: and IsraelH3478 dweltH3427 in all the citiesH5892 of the AmoritesH567, in HeshbonH2809, and in all the towns thereof. 26For HeshbonH2809 was the cityH5892 of SihonH5511 the kingH4428 of the AmoritesH567, who had foughtH3898 against the formerH7223 kingH4428 of MoabH4124, and takenH3947 all his landH776 out of his handH3027, even unto the ArnonH769. 27Wherefore they that speak in proverbs sayH559,

31Thus IsraelH3478 dweltH3427 in the landH776 of the AmoritesH567. 32And MosesH4872 sentH7971 to spyH7270 out JazerH3270; and they tookH3920 the towns thereof, and drove out the AmoritesH567 that were there.

33And they turnedH6437 and wentH3318 up by the wayH1870 of BashanH1316: and OgH5747 the kingH4428 of BashanH1316 wentH3318 out against them, he and all his peopleH5971, to battleH4421 at EdreiH154. 34And Jehovah saidH559 unto MosesH4872, FearH3372 him not: for I have delivered him into thy handH3027, and all his peopleH5971, and his landH776; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto SihonH5511 kingH4428 of the AmoritesH567, who dweltH3427 at HeshbonH2809. 35So they smote him, and his sonsH1121 and all his peopleH5971, until there was none leftH7604 him remainingH7604: and they possessedH3423 his landH776.
