1And the children of IsraelH3478 journeyed, and encampedH2583 in the plainsH6160 of MoabH4124 beyond the JordanH3383 at JerichoH3405.

2And BalakH1111 the sonH1121 of ZipporH6834 sawH7200 all that IsraelH3478 had done to the AmoritesH567. 3And MoabH4124 was sore afraidH1481 of the peopleH5971, because they were manyH7227: and MoabH4124 was distressed because of the children of IsraelH3478. 4And MoabH4124 saidH559 unto the eldersH2205 of MidianH4080, NowH6258 will this multitude lickH3897 up all that is roundH5439 about us, as the oxH7794 licketh up the grass of the fieldH7704. And BalakH1111 the sonH1121 of ZipporH6834 was kingH4428 of MoabH4124 at that timeH6256. 5And he sentH7971 messengersH4397 unto BalaamH1109 the sonH1121 of BeorH1160, to Pethor, which is by the RiverH5104, to the landH776 of the children of his peopleH5971, to callH7121 him, sayingH559, Behold, there is a peopleH5971 comeH3318 out from EgyptH4714: behold, they coverH3680 the face of the earthH776, and they abide over against me. 6Come nowH6258 thereforeH6258, I pray thee, curseH779 me this peopleH5971; for they are too mightyH6099 for me: peradventure I shall prevailH3201, that we may smite them, and that I may driveH1644 them out of the landH776; for I knowH3045 that he whom thou blessest is blessedH1288, and he whom thou cursest is cursedH779.

7And the eldersH2205 of MoabH4124 and the eldersH2205 of MidianH4080 departed with the rewards of divinationH7081 in their handH3027; and they cameH935 unto BalaamH1109, and spake unto him the wordsH1697 of BalakH1111. 8And he saidH559 unto them, Lodge hereH6311 this nightH3915, and I will bringH7725 you wordH1697 again, as Jehovah shall speakH1696 unto me: and the princesH8269 of MoabH4124 abode with BalaamH1109. 9And GodH430 cameH935 unto BalaamH1109, and saidH559, What menH376 are these with thee? 10And BalaamH1109 saidH559 unto GodH430, BalakH1111 the sonH1121 of ZipporH6834, kingH4428 of MoabH4124, hath sentH7971 unto me, sayingH559, 11Behold, the peopleH5971 that is comeH3318 out of EgyptH4714, it covereth the face of the earthH776: nowH6258, comeH3318 curseH6895 me them; peradventure I shall be ableH3201 to fightH3898 against them, and shall driveH1644 them out. 12And GodH430 saidH559 unto BalaamH1109, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curseH779 the peopleH5971; for they are blessedH1288. 13And BalaamH1109 roseH6965 up in the morningH1242, and saidH559 unto the princesH8269 of BalakH1111, Get you into your landH776; for Jehovah refuseth to giveH5414 me leave to goH1980 with you. 14And the princesH8269 of MoabH4124 roseH6965 up, and they wentH1980 unto BalakH1111, and saidH559, BalaamH1109 refuseth to comeH935 with us.

15And BalakH1111 sentH7971 yetH5750 againH5750 princesH8269, more, and more honorable than they. 16And they cameH935 to BalaamH1109, and saidH559 to him, ThusH3541 saith BalakH1111 the sonH1121 of ZipporH6834, Let nothing, I pray thee, hinder thee from comingH935 unto me: 17for I will promote thee unto veryH3966 great honorH3513, and whatsoever thou sayest unto me I will do: come therefore, I pray thee, curseH6895 me this peopleH5971. 18And BalaamH1109 answered and saidH559 unto the servantsH5650 of BalakH1111, If BalakH1111 would giveH5414 me his houseH1004 full of silverH3701 and goldH2091, I cannot go beyond the word of Jehovah my GodH430, to do less or more. 19NowH6258 thereforeH6258, I pray you, tarry ye alsoH1571 hereH2088 this nightH3915, that I may knowH3045 what Jehovah will speakH1696 unto me more. 20And GodH430 cameH935 unto BalaamH1109 at nightH3915, and saidH559 unto him, If the menH376 are comeH935 to callH7121 thee, riseH6965 up, goH935 with them; but onlyH389 the wordH1697 which I speakH1696 unto thee, that shalt thou do.

21And BalaamH1109 roseH6965 up in the morningH1242, and saddledH2280 his ass, and went with the princesH8269 of MoabH4124. 22And God’s angerH639 was kindled because he wentH1980; and the angelH4397 of Jehovah placed himself in the wayH1870 for an adversaryH7854 against him. Now he was ridingH7392 upon his ass, and his twoH8147 servantsH5288 were with him. 23And the ass sawH7200 the angelH4397 of Jehovah standingH5324 in the wayH1870, with his swordH2719 drawnH8025 in his handH3027; and the ass turnedH5186 asideH5186 out of the wayH1870, and went into the fieldH7704: and BalaamH1109 smote the ass, to turnH5186 her into the wayH1870. 24Then the angelH4397 of Jehovah stoodH5975 in a narrow path between the vineyardsH3754, a wallH1447 being on this side, and a wallH1447 on that side. 25And the ass sawH7200 the angelH4397 of Jehovah, and she thrust herself unto the wallH7023, and crushed Balaam’s footH7272 against the wallH7023: and he smote her again. 26And the angelH4397 of Jehovah went further, and stoodH5975 in a narrow placeH4725, whereH834 was no wayH1870 to turnH5186 either to the rightH3225 handH3225 or to the left. 27And the ass sawH7200 the angelH4397 of Jehovah, and she layH7257 downH5221 under BalaamH1109: and Balaam’s angerH639 was kindled, and he smote the ass with his staffH4731. 28And Jehovah openedH6605 the mouthH6310 of the ass, and she saidH559 unto BalaamH1109, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these threeH7969 times? 29And BalaamH1109 saidH559 unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a swordH2719 in my handH3027, for nowH6258 I had killedH2026 thee. 30And the ass saidH559 unto BalaamH1109, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast riddenH7392 all thy life long unto this dayH3117? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? and he saidH559, Nay.

31Then Jehovah opened the eyesH5869 of BalaamH1109, and he sawH7200 the angelH4397 of Jehovah standingH5324 in the wayH1870, with his swordH2719 drawnH8025 in his handH3027; and he bowedH7812 his head, and fell on his faceH639. 32And the angelH4397 of Jehovah saidH559 unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these threeH7969 times? behold, I am comeH3318 forthH3318 for an adversaryH7854, because thy wayH1870 is perverse before me: 33and the ass sawH7200 me, and turnedH5186 asideH5186 before me these threeH7969 times: unless she had turnedH5186 asideH5186 from me, surely nowH6258 I had even slainH2026 thee, and saved her aliveH2421. 34And BalaamH1109 saidH559 unto the angelH4397 of Jehovah, I have sinnedH2398; for I knewH3045 not that thou stoodest in the wayH1870 against me: nowH6258 thereforeH6258, if it displease thee, I will get me backH7725 again. 35And the angelH4397 of Jehovah saidH559 unto BalaamH1109, Go with the menH376; but onlyH657 the wordH1697 that I shall speakH1696 unto thee, that thou shalt speakH1696. So BalaamH1109 went with the princesH8269 of BalakH1111.

36And when BalakH1111 heardH8085 that BalaamH1109 was comeH935, he wentH3318 out to meet him unto the CityH5892 of MoabH4124, which is on the borderH1366 of the ArnonH769, which is in the utmost part of the borderH1366. 37And BalakH1111 saidH559 unto BalaamH1109, Did I not earnestly sendH7971 unto thee to callH7121 thee? wherefore camest thou not unto me? am I not ableH3201 indeed to promote thee to honorH3513? 38And BalaamH1109 saidH559 unto BalakH1111, Lo, I am comeH935 unto thee: have I nowH6258 any power at all to speakH1696 anythingH1697? the wordH1697 that GodH430 putteth in my mouthH6310, that shall I speakH1696. 39And BalaamH1109 wentH935 with BalakH1111, and they cameH935 unto Kiriath-huzoth. 40And BalakH1111 sacrificedH2076 oxenH1241 and sheepH6629, and sentH7971 to BalaamH1109, and to the princesH8269 that were with him.

41And it came to pass in the morningH1242, that BalakH1111 tookH3947 BalaamH1109, and broughtH5927 him up into the high places of Baal; and he sawH7200 from thence the utmost part of the peopleH5971.
