1And Jehovah spake unto MosesH4872, sayingH559, 2AvengeH5358 the children of IsraelH3478 of the MidianitesH4084: afterward shalt thou be gatheredH622 unto thy peopleH5971. 3And MosesH4872 spake unto the peopleH5971, sayingH559, Arm ye menH376 from among you for the warH6635, that they may go against MidianH4080, to execute Jehovah’s vengeanceH5360 on MidianH4080. 4Of every tribeH4294 a thousandH505, throughout all the tribesH4294 of IsraelH3478, shall ye sendH7971 to the warH6635. 5So there were delivered, out of the thousandsH505 of IsraelH3478, a thousandH505 of every tribeH4294, twelve thousandH505 armedH2502 for warH6635. 6And MosesH4872 sentH7971 them, a thousandH505 of every tribeH4294, to the warH6635, them and PhinehasH6372 the sonH1121 of EleazarH499 the priestH3548, to the warH6635, with the vesselsH3627 of the sanctuaryH6944 and the trumpetsH2689 for the alarmH8643 in his handH3027. 7And they warred against MidianH4080, as Jehovah commandedH6680 MosesH4872; and they slewH2026 every maleH2145. 8And they slewH2026 the kingsH4428 of MidianH4080 with the rest of their slainH2026: EviH189, and RekemH7552, and ZurH6698, and HurH2354, and RebaH7254, the fiveH2568 kingsH4428 of MidianH4080: BalaamH1109 also the sonH1121 of BeorH1160 they slewH2026 with the swordH2719. 9And the children of IsraelH3478 tookH7617 captiveH7617 the womenH802 of MidianH4080 and their littleH2945 onesH2945; and all their cattleH929, and all their flocks, and all their goods, they tookH7617 for a prey. 10And all their citiesH5892 in the placesH4186 wherein they dwelt, and all their encampmentsH2918, they burntH8313 with fireH784. 11And they tookH3947 all the spoilH7998, and all the prey, both of manH120 and of beast. 12And they broughtH935 the captivesH7628, and the prey, and the spoilH7998, unto MosesH4872, and unto EleazarH499 the priestH3548, and unto the congregationH5712 of the children of IsraelH3478, unto the campH4264 at the plainsH6160 of MoabH4124, which are by the JordanH3383 at JerichoH3405.

13And MosesH4872, and EleazarH499 the priestH3548, and all the princesH5387 of the congregationH5712, wentH3318 forthH3318 to meet them without the campH4264. 14And MosesH4872 was wroth with the officers of the hostH6635, the captains of thousandsH505 and the captains of hundredsH3967, who cameH935 from the serviceH6635 of the warH4421. 15And MosesH4872 saidH559 unto them, Have ye saved all the women aliveH2421? 16Behold, these caused the children of IsraelH3478, through the counsel of BalaamH1109, to commit trespass against Jehovah in the matterH1697 of PeorH6465, and so the plagueH4046 wasH1961 among the congregationH5712 of Jehovah. 17NowH6258 thereforeH6258 killH2026 every maleH2145 among the littleH2945 onesH2945, and killH2026 every womanH802 that hath knownH3045 manH376 by lying with him. 18But all the women-children, that have not knownH3045 man by lying with him, keep aliveH2421 for yourselves. 19And encampH2583 ye without the campH4264 sevenH7651 daysH3117: whosoever hath killedH2026 any personH5315, and whosoever hath touchedH5060 any slainH2026, purifyH2398 yourselves on the thirdH7992 dayH3117 and on the seventhH7637 dayH3117, ye and your captivesH7628. 20And as to every garmentH899, and all that is made of skinH5785, and all workH4639 of goats’H5795 hair, and all things made of woodH6086, ye shall purifyH2398 yourselves.

21And EleazarH499 the priestH3548 saidH559 unto the menH376 of warH4421 that wentH935 to the battleH4421, This is the statuteH2708 of the lawH8451 which Jehovah hath commandedH6680 MosesH4872: 22howbeit the goldH2091, and the silverH3701, the brass, the ironH1270, the tinH913, and the leadH5777, 23everythingH3605 that may abide the fireH784, ye shall make to goH935 through the fireH784, and it shall be cleanH2891; neverthelessH389 it shall be purifiedH2891 with the waterH4325 for impurityH5079: and all that abideth not the fireH784 ye shall make to goH935 through the waterH4325. 24And ye shall washH3526 your clothesH899 on the seventhH7637 dayH3117, and ye shall be cleanH2891; and afterward ye shall comeH935 into the campH4264.

25And Jehovah spake unto MosesH4872, sayingH559, 26TakeH5375 the sum of the prey that was takenH5375, both of manH120 and of beast, thou, and EleazarH499 the priestH3548, and the headsH7218 of the fathers’H1 houses of the congregationH5712; 27and divideH2673 the prey into two parts: between the men skilled in warH4421, that wentH3318 out to battleH4421, and all the congregationH5712. 28And levy a tribute unto Jehovah of the menH376 of warH4421 that wentH3318 out to battleH4421: oneH259 soulH5315 of fiveH2568 hundredH3967, both of the personsH5315, and of the oxenH1241, and of the asses, and of the flocksH6629: 29takeH3947 it of their halfH4276, and giveH5414 it unto EleazarH499 the priestH3548, for Jehovah’s heave-offering. 30And of the children of Israel’s halfH4276, thou shalt takeH3947 oneH259 drawn out of every fiftyH2572, of the personsH120, of the oxenH1241, of the asses, and of the flocksH6629, even of all the cattleH929, and giveH5414 them unto the LevitesH3881, that keepH8104 the chargeH4931 of the tabernacleH4908 of Jehovah. 31And MosesH4872 and EleazarH499 the priestH3548 did as Jehovah commandedH6680 MosesH4872.

32Now the preyH957, over and above the booty which the men of warH6635 tookH962, wasH1961 sixH8337 hundredH3967 thousandH505 and seventyH7657 thousandH505 and fiveH2568 thousandH505 sheepH6629, 33and threescore and twelve thousandH505 oxenH1241, 34and threescore and oneH259 thousandH505 asses, 35and thirtyH7970 and twoH8147 thousandH505 personsH5315 in all, of the womenH802 that had not knownH3045 manH120 by lying with him. 36And the halfH4275, which wasH1961 the portionH2506 of them that wentH3318 out to warH6635, wasH1961 in numberH4557 threeH7969 hundredH3967 thousandH505 and thirtyH7970 thousandH505 and sevenH7651 thousandH505 and fiveH2568 hundredH3967 sheepH6629: 37and Jehovah’s tribute of the sheepH6629 wasH1961 sixH8337 hundredH3967 and threescore and fifteen. 38And the oxenH1241 were thirtyH7970 and sixH8337 thousandH505; of which Jehovah’s tribute was threescore and twelve. 39And the asses were thirtyH7970 thousandH505 and fiveH2568 hundredH3967; of which Jehovah’s tribute was threescore and oneH259. 40And the personsH5315 were sixteen thousandH505; of whom Jehovah’s tribute was thirtyH7970 and twoH8147 personsH5315. 41And MosesH4872 gaveH5414 the tribute, which was Jehovah’s heave-offering, unto EleazarH499 the priestH3548, as Jehovah commandedH6680 MosesH4872.

42And of the children of Israel’s halfH4276, which MosesH4872 dividedH2673 off from the menH376 that warred 43(now the congregation’sH5712 halfH4275 wasH1961 threeH7969 hundredH3967 thousandH505 and thirtyH7970 thousandH505, sevenH7651 thousandH505 and fiveH2568 hundredH3967 sheepH6629, 44and thirtyH7970 and sixH8337 thousandH505 oxenH1241, 45and thirtyH7970 thousandH505 and fiveH2568 hundredH3967 asses, 46and sixteen thousandH505 personsH5315), 47even of the children of Israel’s halfH4276, MosesH4872 tookH3947 oneH259 drawn out of every fiftyH2572, both of manH120 and of beast, and gaveH5414 them unto the LevitesH3881, that keptH8104 the chargeH4931 of the tabernacleH4908 of Jehovah; as Jehovah commandedH6680 MosesH4872.

48And the officers that were over the thousandsH505 of the hostH6635, the captains of thousandsH505, and the captains of hundredsH3967, came near unto MosesH4872; 49and they saidH559 unto MosesH4872, Thy servantsH5650 have takenH5375 the sum of the menH376 of warH4421 that are under our charge, and there lacketh not oneH376 manH376 of us. 50And we have broughtH7126 Jehovah’s oblation, what every manH376 hath gotten, of jewels of goldH2091, ankle-chains, and braceletsH6781, signet-rings, ear-rings, and armletsH685, to make atonementH3722 for our soulsH5315 before Jehovah. 51And MosesH4872 and EleazarH499 the priestH3548 tookH3947 the goldH2091 of them, even all wrought jewels. 52And all the goldH2091 of the heave-offering that they offeredH7311 up to Jehovah, of the captains of thousandsH505, and of the captains of hundredsH3967, wasH1961 sixteen thousandH505 sevenH7651 hundredH3967 and fiftyH2572 shekelsH8255. 53(For the menH376 of warH6635 had takenH962 booty, every manH376 for himself.) 54And MosesH4872 and EleazarH499 the priestH3548 tookH3947 the goldH2091 of the captains of thousandsH505 and of hundredsH3967, and broughtH935 it into the tentH168 of meetingH4150, for a memorialH2146 for the children of IsraelH3478 before Jehovah.
