Numbers 32
1Now the children of ReubenH7205 and the children of GadH1410 had a veryH3966 great multitude of cattle: and when they sawH7200 the landH776 of JazerH3270, and the landH776 of GileadH1568, that, behold, the placeH4725 wasH1961 a placeH4725 for cattle; 2the children of GadH1410 and the children of ReubenH7205 cameH935 and spake unto MosesH4872, and to EleazarH499 the priestH3548, and unto the princesH5387 of the congregationH5712, sayingH559, 3AtarothH5852, and DibonH1769, and JazerH3270, and Nimrah, and HeshbonH2809, and ElealehH500, and Sebam, and NeboH5015, and Beon, 4the landH776 which Jehovah smote before the congregationH5712 of IsraelH3478, is a landH776 for cattle; and thy servantsH5650 have cattle. 5And they saidH559, If we have foundH4672 favorH2580 in thy sight, let this landH776 be givenH5414 unto thy servantsH5650 for a possessionH272; bring us not over the JordanH3383.
6And MosesH4872 saidH559 unto the children of GadH1410, and to the children of ReubenH7205, Shall your brethren goH935 to the warH4421, and shall ye sitH3427 hereH6311? 7And wherefore discourage ye the heartH3820 of the children of IsraelH3478 from going over into the landH776 which Jehovah hath givenH5414 them? 8ThusH3541 did your fathersH1, when I sentH7971 them from Kadesh-barneaH6947 to seeH7200 the landH776. 9For whenH834 they wentH935 up unto the valley of EshcolH812, and sawH7200 the landH776, they discouraged the heartH3820 of the children of IsraelH3478, that they should not goH935 into the landH776 which Jehovah had givenH5414 them. 10And Jehovah’s angerH639 was kindled in that dayH3117, and he sware, sayingH559, 11Surely none of the menH376 that cameH5927 up out of EgyptH4714, from twentyH6242 yearsH8141 old and upwardH4605, shall seeH7200 the landH127 which I sware unto AbrahamH85, unto IsaacH3327, and unto JacobH3290; because they have not wholly followed me: 12save CalebH3612 the sonH1121 of JephunnehH3312 the KenizziteH7074, and JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of NunH5126; because they have wholly followed Jehovah. 13And Jehovah’s angerH639 was kindled against IsraelH3478, and he madeH6213 them wanderH5128 to and fro in the wildernessH4057 fortyH705 yearsH8141, until all the generationH1755, that had done evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah, was consumed. 14And, behold, ye are risenH6965 up in your fathers’H1 stead, an increase of sinfulH2400 menH376, to augment yetH5750 the fierce angerH639 of Jehovah toward IsraelH3478. 15For if ye turnH7725 awayH7725 from after him, he will yetH5750 againH5750 leave them in the wildernessH4057; and ye will destroyH7843 all this peopleH5971.
16And they came near unto him, and saidH559, We will buildH1129 sheepfolds hereH6311 for our cattle, and citiesH5892 for our littleH2945 onesH2945: 17but we ourselves will be ready armedH2502 to goH935 before the children of IsraelH3478, until we have broughtH935 them unto their placeH4725: and our littleH2945 onesH2945 shall dwellH3427 in the fortified citiesH5892 because of the inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776. 18We will not returnH7725 unto our housesH1004, until the children of IsraelH3478 have inheritedH5157 every manH376 his inheritanceH5159. 19For we will not inheritH5157 with them on the otherH5676 sideH5676 of the JordanH3383, and forward; because our inheritanceH5159 is fallen to us on this sideH5676 of the JordanH3383 eastward.
20And MosesH4872 saidH559 unto them, If ye will do this thingH1697, if ye will arm yourselves to go before Jehovah to the warH4421, 21and every armedH2502 man of you will passH5674 over the JordanH3383 before Jehovah, until he hath driven out his enemiesH341 from before him, 22and the landH776 is subduedH3533 before Jehovah; then afterward ye shall returnH7725, and beH1961 guiltless towards Jehovah, and towards IsraelH3478; and this landH776 shall beH1961 unto you for a possessionH272 before Jehovah. 23But if ye will not do soH3651, behold, ye have sinnedH2398 against Jehovah; and be sure your sinH2398 will findH4672 you out. 24BuildH1129 you citiesH5892 for your littleH2945 onesH2945, and foldsH1448 for your sheepH6792; and do that which hath proceeded out of your mouthH6310. 25And the children of GadH1410 and the children of ReubenH7205 spake unto MosesH4872, sayingH559, Thy servantsH5650 will do as my lordH113 commandeth. 26Our littleH2945 onesH2945, our wivesH802, our flocks, and all our cattleH929, shall beH1961 there in the citiesH5892 of GileadH1568; 27but thy servantsH5650 will passH5674 over, every man that is armedH2502 for warH4421, before Jehovah to battleH4421, as my lord saith.
28So MosesH4872 gave charge concerning them to EleazarH499 the priestH3548, and to JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of NunH5126, and to the headsH7218 of the fathers’H1housesof the tribesH4294 of the children of IsraelH3478. 29And MosesH4872 saidH559 unto them, If the children of GadH1410 and the children of ReubenH7205 will passH5674 with you over the JordanH3383, every man that is armedH2502 to battleH4421, before Jehovah, and the landH776 shall be subduedH3533 before you; then ye shall giveH5414 them the landH776 of GileadH1568 for a possessionH272: 30but if they will not passH5674 over with you armedH2502, they shall have possessionsH270 among you in the landH776 of CanaanH3667. 31And the children of GadH1410 and the children of ReubenH7205 answered, sayingH559, As Jehovah hath saidH559 unto thy servantsH5650, soH3651 will we do. 32We will passH5674 over armedH2502 before Jehovah into the landH776 of CanaanH3667, and the possessionH272 of our inheritanceH5159 shall remain with us beyond the JordanH3383.
33And MosesH4872 gaveH5414 unto them, even to the children of GadH1410, and to the children of ReubenH7205, and unto the half-tribe of ManassehH4519 the sonH1121 of JosephH3130, the kingdomH4467 of SihonH5511 kingH4428 of the AmoritesH567, and the kingdomH4467 of OgH5747 kingH4428 of BashanH1316, the landH776, according to the citiesH5892 thereof with their bordersH1367, even the citiesH5892 of the landH776 roundH5439 about. 34And the children of GadH1410 builtH1129 DibonH1769, and AtarothH5852, and AroerH6177, 35and Atroth-shophan, and JazerH3270, and JogbehahH3011, 36and Beth-nimrahH1039, and Beth-haran: fortified citiesH5892, and foldsH1448 for sheepH6629. 37And the children of ReubenH7205 builtH1129 HeshbonH2809, and ElealehH500, and KiriathaimH7156, 38and NeboH5015, and Baal-meonH1186, (their namesH8034 being changedH5437,) and SibmahH7643: and they gave other namesH8034 unto the citiesH5892 which they builded. 39And the children of Machir the sonH1121 of ManassehH4519 went to GileadH1568, and tookH3920 it, and dispossessedH3423 the AmoritesH567 that were therein. 40And MosesH4872 gaveH5414 GileadH1568 unto Machir the sonH1121 of ManassehH4519; and he dweltH3427 therein. 41And JairH2971 the sonH1121 of ManassehH4519 wentH1980 and tookH3920 the towns thereof, and calledH7121 them Havvoth-jairH2334. 42And NobahH5025 wentH1980 and tookH3920 KenathH7079, and the villages thereof, and calledH7121 it NobahH5025, after his own nameH8034.
