Numbers 16
1Now KorahH7141, the sonH1121 of IzharH3324, the sonH1121 of KohathH6955, the sonH1121 of LeviH3878, with DathanH1885 and AbiramH48, the sonsH1121 of EliabH446, and On, the sonH1121 of PelethH6431, sonsH1121 of ReubenH7205, tookH3947men: 2and they roseH6965 up before MosesH4872, with certain of the children of IsraelH3478, twoH3967 hundredH3967 and fiftyH2572 princesH5387 of the congregationH5712, called to the assemblyH5712, menH376 of renown; 3and they assembledH6950 themselves together against MosesH4872 and against AaronH175, and saidH559 unto them, Ye takeH5375 too muchH7227 upon you, seeing all the congregationH5712 are holyH6918, every oneH6918 of them, and Jehovah is among them: wherefore then liftH5375 ye up yourselves above the assemblyH6951 of Jehovah?
4And when MosesH4872 heardH8085 it, he fellH5307 upon his faceH6440: 5and he spake unto KorahH7141 and unto all his companyH5712, sayingH559, In the morningH1242 Jehovah will show who are his, and who is holyH6918, and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he shall chooseH977 will he cause to come near unto him. 6This do: takeH3947 you censersH4289, KorahH7141, and all his companyH5712; 7and putH5414 fireH784 in them, and putH5414 incenseH7004 upon them before Jehovah to-morrow: and it shall beH1961 that the manH376 whom Jehovah doth chooseH977, he shall beH1961 holyH6918: ye take too muchH7227 upon you, ye sonsH1121 of LeviH3878. 8And MosesH4872 saidH559 unto KorahH7141, HearH8085 now, ye sonsH1121 of LeviH3878: 9seemeth it but a smallH4592 thing unto you, that the GodH430 of IsraelH3478 hath separatedH914 you from the congregationH5712 of IsraelH3478, to bringH7126 you near to himself, to do the serviceH5656 of the tabernacleH4908 of Jehovah, and to standH5975 before the congregationH5712 to minister unto them; 10and that he hath broughtH7126 thee near, and all thy brethren the sonsH1121 of LeviH3878 with thee? and seekH1245 ye the priesthoodH3550 alsoH1571? 11ThereforeH3651 thou and all thy companyH5712 are gatheredH3259 togetherH3259 against Jehovah: and AaronH175, what is he that ye murmur against him?
12And MosesH4872 sentH7971 to callH7121 DathanH1885 and AbiramH48, the sonsH1121 of EliabH446; and they saidH559, We will not comeH5927 up: 13is it a smallH4592 thing that thou hast broughtH5927 us up out of a landH776 flowingH2100 with milkH2461 and honeyH1706, to killH4191 us in the wildernessH4057, but thou must needs make thyself alsoH1571 a prince over us? 14Moreover thou hast not broughtH935 us into a landH776 flowingH2100 with milkH2461 and honeyH1706, nor givenH5414 us inheritanceH5159 of fieldsH7704 and vineyardsH3754: wilt thou putH5414 out the eyesH5869 of these menH376? we will not comeH935 up.
15And MosesH4872 was veryH3966 wroth, and saidH559 unto Jehovah, Respect not thou their offeringH4503: I have not takenH5375 oneH259 ass from them, neither have I hurt oneH259 of them. 16And MosesH4872 saidH559 unto KorahH7141, BeH1961 thou and all thy companyH5712 before Jehovah, thou, and they, and AaronH175, to-morrow: 17and takeH3947 ye every manH376 his censerH4289, and putH5414 incenseH7004 upon them, and bringH7126 ye before Jehovah every manH376 his censerH4289, two hundredH3967 and fiftyH2572 censersH4289; thou also, and AaronH175, each his censerH4289. 18And they tookH3947 every manH376 his censerH4289, and putH5414 fireH784 in them, and laid incenseH7004 thereon, and stoodH5975 at the doorH6607 of the tentH168 of meetingH4150 with MosesH4872 and AaronH175. 19And KorahH7141 assembledH6950 all the congregationH5712 against them unto the doorH6607 of the tentH168 of meetingH4150: and the gloryH3519 of Jehovah appearedH7200 unto all the congregationH5712.
20And Jehovah spake unto MosesH4872 and unto AaronH175, sayingH559, 21SeparateH914 yourselves from among this congregationH5712, that I may consume them in a momentH7281. 22And they fellH5307 upon their facesH6440, and saidH559, O GodH430, the GodH430 of the spiritsH7307 of all fleshH1320, shall oneH259 manH376 sinH2398, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregationH5712? 23And Jehovah spake unto MosesH4872, sayingH559, 24SpeakH1696 unto the congregationH5712, sayingH559, Get you up from about the tabernacleH4908 of KorahH7141, DathanH1885, and AbiramH48.
25And MosesH4872 roseH6965 up and went unto DathanH1885 and AbiramH48; and the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478 followed him. 26And he spake unto the congregationH5712, sayingH559, DepartH5493, I pray you, from the tentsH168 of these wickedH7563 menH376, and touchH5060 nothing of theirs, lestH6435 ye be consumed in all their sinsH2403. 27So they gat them up from the tabernacleH4908 of KorahH7141, DathanH1885, and AbiramH48, on every side: and DathanH1885 and AbiramH48 cameH3318 out, and stoodH5324 at the doorH6607 of their tentsH168, and their wivesH802, and their sonsH1121, and their littleH2945 onesH2945. 28And MosesH4872 saidH559, Hereby ye shall knowH3045 that Jehovah hath sentH7971 me to do all these worksH4639; for I have not done them of mine own mind. 29If these menH120 dieH4191 the common deathH4191 of all menH120, or if they be visitedH6485 after the visitation of all menH120; then Jehovah hath not sentH7971 me. 30But if Jehovah makeH3045 a new thing, and the groundH127 openH6475 its mouthH6310, and swallowH1104 them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they goH3381 down aliveH2416 into SheolH7585; then ye shall understand that these menH376 have despised Jehovah.
31And it came to pass, as he made an endH3615 of speakingH1696 all these wordsH1697, that the groundH127 clave asunder that wasH1961 under them; 32and the earthH776 openedH6605 its mouthH6310, and swallowedH1104 them up, and their householdsH1004, and all the menH120 that appertained unto KorahH7141, and all their goods. 33So they, and all that appertained to them, wentH3381 downH3381 aliveH2416 into SheolH7585: and the earthH776 closed upon them, and they perishedH6 from among the assemblyH6951. 34And all IsraelH3478 that were roundH5439 about them fledH5127 at the cry of them; for they saidH559, LestH6435 the earthH776 swallowH1104 us up. 35And fireH784 cameH3318 forthH3318 from Jehovah, and devouredH398 the twoH3967 hundredH3967 and fiftyH2572 menH376 that offered the incenseH7004.
36And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, 37Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter thou the fire yonder; for they are holy, 38even the censers of these sinners against their own lives; and let them be made beaten plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before Jehovah; therefore they are holy; and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel. 39And Eleazar the priest took the brazen censers, which they that were burnt had offered; and they beat them out for a covering of the altar, 40to be a memorial unto the children of Israel, to the end that no stranger, that is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to burn incense before Jehovah; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as Jehovah spake unto him by Moses.
41But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of Jehovah. 42And it came to pass, when the congregation was assembled against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tent of meeting: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of Jehovah appeared. 43And Moses and Aaron came to the front of the tent of meeting. 44And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, 45Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. And they fell upon their faces. 46And Moses said unto Aaron, Take thy censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and lay incense thereon, and carry it quickly unto the congregation, and make atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from Jehovah; the plague is begun. 47And Aaron took as Moses spake, and ran into the midst of the assembly; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on the incense, and made atonement for the people. 48And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed. 49Now they that died by the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, besides them that died about the matter of Korah. 50And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tent of meeting: and the plague was stayed.
