1And the children of IsraelH3478, even the whole congregationH5712, cameH935 into the wildernessH4057 of ZinH6790 in the firstH7223 monthH2320: and the peopleH5971 abode in KadeshH6946; and MiriamH4813 diedH4191 there, and was buriedH6912 there.

2And there wasH1961 no waterH4325 for the congregationH5712: and they assembledH6950 themselves together against MosesH4872 and against AaronH175. 3And the peopleH5971 strove with MosesH4872, and spake, sayingH559, Would that we had diedH1478 when our brethren diedH1478 before Jehovah! 4And whyH4100 have ye broughtH935 the assemblyH6951 of Jehovah into this wildernessH4057, that we should dieH4191 there, we and our beasts? 5And wherefore have ye made us to comeH935 up out of EgyptH4714, to bringH935 us in unto this evilH7451 placeH4725? it is no placeH4725 of seedH2233, or of figsH8384, or of vinesH1612, or of pomegranatesH7416; neither is there any waterH4325 to drinkH8354. 6And MosesH4872 and AaronH175 wentH935 from the presenceH6440 of the assemblyH6951 unto the doorH6607 of the tentH168 of meetingH4150, and fellH5307 upon their facesH6440: and the gloryH3519 of Jehovah appearedH7200 unto them. 7And Jehovah spake unto MosesH4872, sayingH559, 8TakeH3947 the rodH4294, and assembleH6950 the congregationH5712, thou, and AaronH175 thy brotherH251, and speakH1696 ye unto the rockH5553 before their eyesH5869, that it giveH5414 forthH3318 its waterH4325; and thou shalt bringH3318 forthH3318 to them waterH4325 out of the rockH5553; so thou shalt giveH5414 the congregationH5712 and their cattleH1165 drinkH8248. 9And MosesH4872 tookH3947 the rodH4294 from before Jehovah, as he commandedH6680 him.

10And MosesH4872 and AaronH175 gathered the assemblyH6951 togetherH6950 before the rockH5553, and he saidH559 unto them, HearH8085 now, ye rebelsH4784; shall we bringH3318 you forthH3318 waterH4325 out of this rockH5553? 11And MosesH4872 liftedH7311 up his handH3027, and smote the rockH5553 with his rodH4294 twice: and waterH4325 cameH3318 forthH3318 abundantly, and the congregationH5712 drankH8354, and their cattleH1165. 12And Jehovah saidH559 unto MosesH4872 and AaronH175, Because ye believedH539 not in me, to sanctifyH6942 me in the eyesH5869 of the children of IsraelH3478, thereforeH3651 ye shall not bringH935 this assemblyH6951 into the landH776 which I have givenH5414 them. 13These are the watersH4325 of MeribahH4809; because the children of IsraelH3478 strove with Jehovah, and he was sanctifiedH6942 in them.

14And MosesH4872 sentH7971 messengersH4397 from KadeshH6946 unto the kingH4428 of EdomH123, ThusH3541 saith thy brotherH251 IsraelH3478, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us: 15how our fathersH1 wentH3381 downH3381 into EgyptH4714, and we dweltH3427 in EgyptH4714 a long time; and the Egyptians dealt ill with us, and our fathersH1: 16and when we criedH6817 unto Jehovah, he heardH8085 our voiceH6963, and sentH7971 an angelH4397, and broughtH3318 us forthH3318 out of EgyptH4714: and, behold, we are in KadeshH6946, a cityH5892 in the uttermost of thy borderH1366. 17Let us passH5674, I pray thee, through thy landH776: we will not passH5674 through fieldH7704 or through vineyardH3754, neither will we drinkH8354 of the waterH4325 of the wellsH875; we will go along the king’sH4428 highway; we will not turnH5186 asideH5186 to the rightH3225 handH3225 nor to the left, until we have passedH5674 thy borderH1366. 18And EdomH123 saidH559 unto him, Thou shalt not passH5674 through me, lestH6435 I comeH3318 out with the swordH2719 against thee. 19And the children of IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto him, We will goH5927 up by the highwayH4546; and if we drinkH8354 of thy waterH4325, I and my cattle, then will I giveH5414 the priceH4377 thereof: let me onlyH7535, without doing anythingH1697 else, passH5674 through on my feetH7272. 20And he saidH559, Thou shalt not passH5674 through. And EdomH123 cameH3318 out against him with much peopleH5971, and with a strongH2389 handH3027. 21Thus EdomH123 refusedH3985 to giveH5414 IsraelH3478 passage through his borderH1366: wherefore IsraelH3478 turnedH5186 away from him.

22And they journeyed from KadeshH6946: and the children of IsraelH3478, even the whole congregationH5712, cameH935 unto mount HorH2023. 23And Jehovah spake unto MosesH4872 and AaronH175 in mount HorH2023, by the borderH1366 of the landH776 of EdomH123, sayingH559, 24AaronH175 shall be gatheredH622 unto his peopleH5971; for he shall not enter into the landH776 which I have givenH5414 unto the children of IsraelH3478, because ye rebelledH4784 against my word at the watersH4325 of MeribahH4809. 25TakeH3947 AaronH175 and EleazarH499 his sonH1121, and bringH5927 them up unto mount HorH2023; 26and stripH6584 AaronH175 of his garmentsH899, and putH4191 them upon EleazarH499 his sonH1121: and AaronH175 shall be gatheredH622 unto his peopleH1121, and shall dieH4191 there. 27And MosesH4872 did as Jehovah commandedH6680: and they wentH5927 up into mount HorH2023 in the sight of all the congregationH5712. 28And MosesH4872 strippedH6584 AaronH175 of his garmentsH899, and putH4191 them upon EleazarH499 his sonH1121; and AaronH175 diedH4191 there on the topH7218 of the mount: and MosesH4872 and EleazarH499 cameH3381 downH3381 from the mount. 29And when all the congregationH5712 sawH7200 that AaronH175 was dead, they weptH1058 for AaronH175 thirtyH7970 daysH3117, even all the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478.
