Conflicts to Come

1“In thefirstאַחַ֔ת'a.ChatH259yearבִּשְׁנַ֣תbish.NatH8141of Dariusלְדָרְיָ֖וֶשׁle.da.re.Ya.veshH1867the Medeהַמָּדִ֑יha.ma.DiH4075,I aroseעָמְדִ֛י'a.me.DiH5975to be ofassistanceלְמַחֲזִ֥יקle.ma.cha.ZikH2388and a protectionוּלְמָע֖וֹזu.le.ma.'ozH4581for him.

2And nowוְעַתָּ֕הve.'a.TahH6258I will tellאַגִּ֣יד'a.GidH5046you thetruthאֱמֶ֖ת'e.MetH571.Beholdהִנֵּה־hi.neh-H2009,threeשְׁלֹשָׁ֨הshe.lo.ShahH7969moreעוֹד֩'OdH5750kingsמְלָכִ֜יםme.la.KhimH4428are going to ariseעֹמְדִ֣ים'o.me.DimH5975in Persiaלְפָרַ֗סle.fa.RasH6539.Then a fourthוְהָֽרְבִיעִי֙ve.ha.re.vi.'IH7243will gainיַעֲשִׁ֤ירya.'a.ShirH6238farH1419moreH1419richesעֹֽשֶׁר־'o.sher-H6239thanH4480allמִכֹּ֔לmi.KolH3605of them;as soon as he becomes strongוּכְחֶזְקָת֣וֹu.khe.chez.ka.ToH2393through his richesבְעָשְׁר֔וֹve.'a.she.RoH6239,he will stirיָעִ֣ירya.'IrH5782upH5782the entireהַכֹּ֔לha.KolH3605empireagainst the realmמַלְכ֥וּתmal.KhutH4438ofGreeceיָוָֽן׃ya.VanH3120.

3And amightyגִּבּ֑וֹרgi.BorH1368kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428will ariseוְעָמַ֖דve.'a.MadH5975,and he will ruleוּמָשַׁל֙u.ma.ShalH4910with greatרַ֔בRavH7227authorityמִמְשָׁ֣לmi.ShalH4474anddoוְעָשָׂ֖הve.'a.SahH6213as he pleasesכִּרְצוֹנֽוֹ׃kir.tzo.NoH7522.

4But as soon as he has arisenוּכְעָמְדוֹ֙u.khe.'a.me.DoH5975,his kingdomמַלְכוּת֔וֹmal.khu.ToH4438will be brokenH7665upH7665and parceledH2673outH2673toward thefourלְאַרְבַּ֖עle.'ar.Ba'H702pointsרוּח֣וֹתru.ChotH7307of the compassהַשָּׁמָ֑יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064, though not to his owndescendantsלְאַחֲרִית֗וֹle.'a.cha.ri.ToH319,norH3808according to his authorityכְמָשְׁלוֹ֙khe.ma.she.LoH4915whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834he wieldedמָשָׁ֔לma.ShalH4910,becauseכִּ֤יkiH3588his sovereigntyמַלְכוּת֔וֹmal.khu.ToH4438will beremovedתִנָּתֵשׁ֙ti.na.TeshH5428and givento othersוְלַאֲחֵרִ֖יםve.la.'a.che.RimH312besidesמִלְּבַד־mi.le.vad-H4480 H905them.

5“Then thekingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of the Southהַנֶּ֖גֶבha.Ne.gevH5045will growH2388strongH2388, along with oneof his princesשָׂרָ֑יוsa.RavH8269who will gainH2388ascendancyH2388overעָלָיו֙'a.LavH5921him and ruleוּמָשָׁ֔לu.ma.ShalH4910;his domainH4475will bea greatרַ֖בravH7227realmH4475indeed.

6And afterוּלְקֵ֤ץu.le.KetzH7093someyearsשָׁנִים֙sha.NimH8141they will formH2266anH2266allianceיִתְחַבָּ֔רוּyit.cha.Ba.ruH2266,and the daughterוּבַ֣תu.VatH1323of the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of the Southהַנֶּ֗גֶבha.Ne.gevH5045will comeH935to thekingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of the Northהַצָּפ֔וֹןha.tza.FonH6828to reachלַעֲשׂ֖וֹתla.'a.SotH6213an agreementמֵישָׁרִ֑יםmei.sha.RimH4339.But she will not keepתַעְצֹ֞רta'.TzorH6113herpositionהַזְּר֗וֹעַha.ze.Ro.a'H2220of powerכּ֣וֹחַKo.achH3581,norH3808will he remainיַעֲמֹד֙ya.'a.ModH5975with hispowerוּזְרֹע֔וֹu.ze.ro.'OH2220,but she will be givenH5414upH5414,along with those who broughtH935her inH935and the one who fatheredוְהַיֹּ֣לְדָ֔הּve.hai.Yo.le.DahH3205her as well as he who supportedוּמַחֲזִקָ֖הּu.ma.cha.zi.KahH2388her in thosetimesבָּעִתִּֽים׃ba.'i.TimH6256.

7But one of thedescendantsמִנֵּ֥צֶרmi.Ne.tzerH5342of her lineשָׁרָשֶׁ֖יהָsha.ra.Shei.haH8328will ariseוְעָמַ֛דve.'a.MadH5975in his placeכַּנּ֑וֹka.NoH3653,and he will comeוְיָבֹ֣אve.ya.Vo'H935againstאֶל־'el-H413theirarmyהַחַ֗יִלha.Cha.yilH2428and enterוְיָבֹא֙ve.ya.Vo'H935thefortressבְּמָעוֹז֙be.ma.'OzH4581of the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of the Northהַצָּפ֔וֹןha.tza.FonH6828,and he will dealוְעָשָׂ֥הve.'a.SahH6213with them and prevailוְהֶחֱזִֽיק׃ve.he.che.ZikH2388.

8And he will alsoוְגַ֣םve.GamH1571takeיָבִ֣אya.Vi'H935into captivityבַּשְּׁבִ֖יba.she.ViH7628to Egyptמִצְרָ֑יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714theirgodsאֱֽלֹהֵיהֶ֡ם'elo.hei.HemH430with their castH5257metalH5257imagesH5257andtheir preciousחֶמְדָּתָ֜םchem.da.TamH2532vesselsכְּלֵ֨יke.LeiH3627of silverכֶּ֧סֶףKe.sefH3701and goldוְזָהָ֛בve.za.HavH2091,and he on his partוְהוּא֙ve.Hu'H1931willrefrainיַעֲמֹ֔דya.'a.ModH5975from attacking the kingמִמֶּ֖לֶךְmi.Me.lekhH4428of the Northהַצָּפֽוֹן׃ha.tza.FonH6828for someyearsשָׁנִ֣יםsha.NimH8141.

9Thenthe latter will enterוּבָ֗אu.Va'H935the realmבְּמַלְכוּת֙be.mal.KhutH4438of the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of the Southהַנֶּ֔גֶבha.Ne.gevH5045,but will returnוְשָׁ֖בve.ShavH7725to his ownlandאַדְמָתֽוֹ׃'ad.ma.ToH127.

10“And his sonsוּבָנָ֣יוuv.novH1121will mobilizeH1624and assembleוְאָסְפוּ֙ve.'a.se.FuH622a multitudeהֲמוֹן֙ha.mOnH1995of greatרַבִּ֔יםra.BimH7227forcesחֲיָלִ֣יםcha.ya.LimH2428; and one of themwill keepוּבָ֥אu.Va'H935on comingב֖וֹאVo'H935andoverflowוְשָׁטַ֣ףve.sha.TafH7857and passוְעָבָ֑רve.'a.VarH5674throughH5674, so that he mayagainוְיָשֹׁ֥בve.ya.ShoH7725wageיִתְגָּר֗וּyit.ga.RuH1624warוְיִתְגָּרֶ֖הve.yit.ga.ruH1624up to his fortressמָעֻזּֽוֹ׃ma.'u.zoH4581.

11And thekingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of the Southהַנֶּ֔גֶבha.Ne.gevH5045will beH4843enragedH4843and goוְיָצָ֕אve.ya.Tza'H3318outH3318and fightוְנִלְחַ֥םve.nil.ChamH3898with the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of the Northהַצָּפ֑וֹןha.tza.FonH6828. Then the latterwill raiseוְהֶעֱמִיד֙ve.he.'e.MidH5975a greatרָ֔בRavH7227multitudeהָמ֣וֹןha.MonH1995, but thatmultitudeהֶהָמ֖וֹןhe.ha.MonH1995will be handedבְּיָדֽוֹ׃be.ya.DoH5414 H3027overH5414to the former.

12When the multitudeהֶהָמ֖וֹןhe.ha.MonH1995is carriedוְנִשָּׂ֥אve.ni.Sa'H5375away, his heartלְבָב֑וֹle.va.VoH3824willbeH7311haughtyH7311,and he will cause tensH7239of thousandsרִבֹּא֖וֹתri.bo.'otH7239to fallוְהִפִּ֛ילve.hi.PilH5307;yet he will not prevailיָעֽוֹז׃ya.'ozH5810.

13For the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of the Northהַצָּפ֔וֹןha.tza.FonH6828will againוְשָׁב֙ve.ShavH7725raiseוְהֶעֱמִ֣ידve.he.'e.MidH5975a greaterרַ֖בravH7227multitudeהָמ֔וֹןha.MonH1995thanמִן־min-H4480the formerהָרִאשׁ֑וֹןha.ri.ShonH7223, andafterוּלְקֵ֨ץu.le.KetzH7093anintervalH6256ofH6256someH6256yearsשָׁנִים֙sha.NimH8141he willpressH935on with a greatגָּד֖וֹלga.DolH1419armyבְּחַ֥יִלbe.Cha.yilH2428and muchרָֽב׃RavH7227equipmentוּבִרְכ֥וּשׁu.vir.KhushH7399.

14“Now in thoseהָהֵ֔םha.HemH1992timesוּבָעִתִּ֣יםu.va.'i.TimH6256manyרַבִּ֥יםra.BimH7227will riseיַֽעַמְד֖וּya.'am.DuH5975up againstעַל־'al-H5921the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of the Southהַנֶּ֑גֶבha.Ne.gevH5045;the violentפָּרִיצֵ֣יpa.ri.TzeiH6530onesוּבְנֵ֣י׀u.ve.NeiH1121among your peopleעַמְּךָ֗'a.me.KhaH5971will also raiseH5375themselves upH5375to fulfillלְהַעֲמִ֥ידle.ha.'a.MidH5975the visionחָז֖וֹןcha.ZonH2377, but they willfallH3782downH3782.

15Then the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of the Northהַצָּפ֔וֹןha.tza.FonH6828will comeוְיָבֹא֙ve.ya.Vo'H935,pileH8210upH8210anassaultH5550rampH5550,and captureוְלָכַ֖דve.la.KhadH3920a well-fortifiedמִבְצָר֑וֹתmiv.tza.RotH4013cityעִ֣יר'irH5892;and the forcesוּזְרֹע֤וֹתu.ze.ro.'otH2220of the Southהַנֶּ֙גֶב֙ha.Ne.gevH5045will not standיַעֲמֹ֔דוּya.'a.Mo.duH5975their ground, not eventheir choicestמִבְחָרָ֔יוmiv.cha.RavH4005troopsוְעַם֙ve.'AmH5971,for thereH369willH369beH369noH369strengthכֹּ֖חַKo.achH3581to makeH5975aH5975standלַעֲמֹֽד׃la.'a.ModH5975.

16But he who comesהַבָּ֤אha.Ba'H935againstאֵלָיו֙'e.LavH413him willdoוְיַ֨עַשׂve.Ya.'asH6213as he pleasesכִּרְצוֹנ֔וֹkir.tzo.NoH7522, andnoH369oneH369will be able towithstandעוֹמֵ֖ד לְפָנָ֑יוo.Med le.fa.NavH6440 H5975him; he will also stayוְיַעֲמֹ֥דve.ya.'a.ModH5975for a time in theBeautifulהַצְּבִ֖יha.tze.ViH6643Landבְּאֶֽרֶץ־be.'e.retz-H776,with destructionוְכָלָ֥הve.kha.LahH3617in his handבְיָדֽוֹ׃ve.ya.DoH3027.

17And he willsetוְיָשֵׂ֣ם׀ve.ya.SemH7760hismindפָּ֠נָיוPa.navH6440on comingלָב֞וֹאla.Vo'H935with the powerבְּתֹ֧קֶףbe.To.kefH8633of his entireכָּל־kol-H3605kingdomמַלְכוּת֛וֹmal.khu.ToH4438, bringing with hima proposalH3476ofH3476peaceH3476which he will putH6213intoH6213effectH6213;he will also giveיִתֶּן־yi.ten-H5414him the daughterוּבַ֤תu.VatH1323of womenהַנָּשִׁים֙ha.na.ShimH802to ruinלְהַשְׁחִיתָ֔הּle.hash.chi.TahH7843it. But she will not takeH5975aH5975standתַעֲמֹ֖דta.'a.ModH5975for him or be on his side.

18Then he will turnיָשִׁ֥יבya.ShivH7725his faceפָּנָ֛יוpa.NavH6440to thecoastlandsלְאִיִּ֖יםle.'i.YimH339and captureוְלָכַ֣דve.la.KhadH3920manyרַבִּ֑יםra.BimH7227.But a commanderקָצִ֤יןka.TzinH7101will putוְהִשְׁבִּ֨יתve.hish.BitH7673aH7673stopH7673toH7673his tauntingחֶרְפָּתוֹ֙cher.pa.ToH2781against him; moreoverבִּלְתִּ֥יbil.TiH1115, he willrepayH7725him for his tauntingחֶרְפָּת֖וֹcher.pa.ToH2781.

19So he will turnוְיָשֵׁ֣בve.ya.ShevH7725his faceפָּנָ֔יוpa.NavH6440toward the fortressesלְמָעוּזֵּ֖יle.ma.'u.ZeiH4581of his own landאַרְצ֑וֹ'ar.TzoH776, but he willstumbleוְנִכְשַׁ֥לve.nikh.ShalH3782and fallוְנָפַ֖לve.na.FalH5307and not befoundיִמָּצֵֽא׃yi.ma.Tze'H4672.

20“Then in his placeכַּנּ֛וֹka.NoH3653one will ariseוְעָמַ֧דve.'a.MadH5975who will allow anoppressorנוֹגֵ֖שׂno.GesH5065to passH5674throughH5674theJewelהֶ֣דֶרHe.derH1925of hiskingdomמַלְכ֑וּתmal.KhutH4438;yet within a fewאֲחָדִים֙'a.cha.DimH259daysוּבְיָמִ֤יםuv.ya.MimH3117he will be brokenיִשָּׁבֵ֔רyi.sha.VerH7665,though not in angerבְאַפַּ֖יִםve.'a.Pa.yimH639norH3808in battleבְמִלְחָמָֽה׃ve.mil.cha.MahH4421.

21And in his placeכַּנּוֹ֙ka.NoH3653a despicableנִבְזֶ֔הniv.ZehH959person will ariseוְעָמַ֤דve.'a.MadH5975,on whom the majestyה֣וֹדHodH1935of kingshipמַלְכ֑וּתmal.KhutH4438has not been conferredנָתְנ֥וּna.te.NuH5414;but he will comeוּבָ֣אu.Va'H935in a time oftranquilityבְשַׁלְוָ֔הve.shal.VahH7962andseizeוְהֶחֱזִ֥יקve.he.che.ZikH2388the kingdomמַלְכ֖וּתmal.KhutH4438by intrigueבַּחֲלַקְלַקּֽוֹת׃ba.cha.lak.la.KotH2519.

22And the overflowingהַשֶּׁ֛טֶףha.She.tefH7858forcesוּזְרֹע֥וֹתu.ze.ro.'otH2220will be floodedH7857awayH7857from him and smashedוְיִשָּׁבֵ֑רוּve.yi.sha.Ve.ruH7665,and alsoוְגַ֖םve.GamH1571the princeנְגִ֥ידne.GidH5057of the covenantבְּרִֽית׃be.RitH1285.

23Afterוּמִן־u.min-H4480an allianceהִֽתְחַבְּר֥וּתhit.cha.be.RutH2266isH2266madeH2266with him he will practiceיַעֲשֶׂ֣הya.'a.SehH6213deceptionמִרְמָ֑הmir.MahH4820,and he will goH5927upH5927and gainH6105powerH6105with a smallבִּמְעַט־bim.'at-H4592force ofpeopleגּֽוֹי׃GoyH1471.

24In a timeH7962ofH7962tranquilityH7962he will enterיָבוֹא֒ya.Vo'H935therichestוּבְמִשְׁמַנֵּ֣יuv.mish.ma.NeiH4924parts of therealmמְדִינָה֮me.di.NahH4082,and he will accomplishH6213whatאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834his fathersH1did not, norלֹא־lo'-H3808hisancestorsH1;he will distributeיִבְז֑וֹרyiv.ZorH967plunderבִּזָּ֧הbi.ZahH961,spoilsוְשָׁלָ֛לve.sha.LalH7998,and possessionsוּרְכ֖וּשׁu.re.KhushH7399among them, and he will deviseיְחַשֵּׁ֥בye.cha.ShevH2803his schemesמַחְשְׁבֹתָ֖יוmach.she.vo.TavH4284againstוְעַ֧לve.'AlH5921strongholdsמִבְצָרִ֛יםmiv.tza.RimH4013, but onlyfor a timeעֵֽת׃'EtH6256.

25And he will stirוְיָעֵר֩ve.ya.'ErH5782upH5782his strengthכֹּח֨וֹko.ChoH3581andcourageוּלְבָב֜וֹu.le.va.VoH3824againstעַל־'al-H5921thekingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of the Southהַנֶּגֶב֮ha.ne.GevH5045with a largeגָּדוֹל֒ga.dOlH1419armyבְּחַ֣יִלbe.Cha.yilH2428;so the kingוּמֶ֣לֶךְu.Me.lekhH4428of the Southהַנֶּ֗גֶבha.Ne.gevH5045will mobilizeיִתְגָּרֶה֙yit.ga.RehH1624an extremelyעַד־ מְאֹ֑ד'ad- me.'OdH5704 H3966largeגָּד֥וֹלga.DolH1419and mightyוְעָצ֖וּםve.'a.TzumH6099armyבְּחַֽיִל־be.cha.yil-H2428for warלַמִּלְחָמָ֔הla.mil.cha.MahH4421;but he will not standיַעֲמֹ֔דya.'a.ModH5975,becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588schemesמַחֲשָׁבֽוֹת׃ma.cha.sha.VotH4284will be devisedיַחְשְׁב֥וּyach.she.VuH2803againstעָלָ֖יו'a.LavH5921him.

26Those who eatוְאֹכְלֵ֧יve.'o.khe.LeiH398his choiceפַת־fat-H6598foodבָּג֛וֹba.GoH6598willdestroyיִשְׁבְּר֖וּהוּyish.be.Ru.huH7665him, and his armyוְחֵיל֣וֹve.chei.LoH2428willoverflowיִשְׁט֑וֹףyish.TofH7857,but manyרַבִּֽים׃ra.BimH7227will fallוְנָפְל֖וּve.na.fe.LuH5307downH5307slainחֲלָלִ֥יםcha.la.LimH2491.

27As for bothוּשְׁנֵיהֶ֤םu.she.nei.HemH8147kingsהַמְּלָכִים֙ha.me.la.KhimH4428,their heartsלְבָבָ֣םle.va.VamH3824will be intent onevilH7489, and they willspeakיְדַבֵּ֑רוּye.da.Be.ruH1696liesכָּזָ֣בka.ZavH3577to each otherat the sameאֶחָ֖ד'e.ChadH259tableשֻׁלְחָ֥ןshul.ChanH7979;but it will not succeedתִצְלָ֔חtitz.LachH6743,becauseכִּי־ki-H3588theendקֵ֖ץketzH7093is stillע֥וֹדodH5750to comeat the appointedלַמּוֹעֵֽד׃la.mo.'EdH4150timeH4150.

28Then he will returnוְיָשֹׁ֤בve.ya.ShoH7725to his landאַרְצוֹ֙'ar.TzoH776with muchגָּד֔וֹלga.DolH1419plunderבִּרְכ֣וּשׁbir.KhushH7399;but his heartוּלְבָב֖וֹu.le.va.VoH3824will be setagainstעַל־'al-H5921the holyקֹ֑דֶשׁKo.deshH6944covenantבְּרִ֣יתbe.RitH1285,and he will takeH6213actionH6213and thenreturnוְשָׁ֥בve.ShavH7725to his ownlandלְאַרְצֽוֹ׃le.'ar.TzoH776.

29“At the appointedלַמּוֹעֵ֥דla.mo.'EdH4150timeH4150he will returnיָשׁ֖וּבya.ShuvH7725and comeוּבָ֣אu.Va'H935into the Southבַנֶּ֑גֶבva.Ne.gevH5045, butthis lastH314timeוְכָאַחֲרֹנָֽה׃ve.kha.'a.cha.ro.NahH314it will not turnH1961outH1961the way it did beforeכָרִאשֹׁנָ֖הkha.ri.sho.NahH7223.

30For shipsצִיִּ֤יםtzi.YimH6716ofKittimכִּתִּים֙ki.TimH3794will comeוּבָ֨אוּu.Va.'uH935against him; therefore he will withdrawH3512inH3512fearH3512and will returnH7725and curseוְזָעַ֥םve.za.'AmH2194the holyק֖וֹדֶשׁKo.deshH6944covenantבְּרִֽית־be.rit-H1285and takeH6213actionH6213;so he will comeH7725backH7725and payוְיָבֵ֔ןve.ya.VenH995attentionH995to those who abandonעֹזְבֵ֖י'o.ze.VeiH5800the holyקֹֽדֶשׁ׃Ko.deshH6944covenantבְּרִ֥יתbe.RitH1285.

31Forcesוּזְרֹעִ֖יםu.ze.ro.'ImH2220from him will ariseיַעֲמֹ֑דוּya.'a.Mo.duH5975,desecrateוְחִלְּל֞וּve.chi.le.LuH2490the sanctuaryהַמִּקְדָּ֤שׁha.mik.DashH4720fortressהַמָּעוֹז֙ha.ma.'OzH4581,and doH5493awayH5493withH5493the regularH8548sacrificeH8548.And they will setוְנָתְנ֖וּve.na.te.NuH5414upH5414theabominationהַשִּׁקּ֥וּץha.shi.KutzH8251of desolationמְשׁוֹמֵֽם׃me.sho.MemH8074.

32And bysmoothבַּחֲלַקּ֑וֹתba.cha.la.KotH2514words he willturnH2610toH2610godlessnessH2610those who actוּמַרְשִׁיעֵ֣יu.mar.shi.'EiH7561wickedlyH7561toward the covenantבְרִ֔יתve.RitH1285,but the peopleוְעַ֛םve.'AmH5971who knowיֹדְעֵ֥יyo.de.'EiH3045their Godאֱלֹהָ֖יו'e.lo.HavH430will bestrongיַחֲזִ֥קוּya.cha.Zi.kuH2388and takeH6213actionH6213.

33Andthose who haveH7919insightוּמַשְׂכִּ֣ילֵיu.mas.Ki.leiH7919among the peopleעָ֔ם'AmH5971will giveיָבִ֖ינוּya.Vi.nuH995understandingH995to the manyלָֽרַבִּ֑יםla.ra.BimH7227; yet they willfallוְנִכְשְׁל֞וּve.nikh.she.LuH3782by swordבְּחֶ֧רֶבbe.Che.revH2719and by flameוּבְלֶהָבָ֛הuv.le.ha.VaH3852,by captivityבִּשְׁבִ֥יbish.ViH7628and by plunderוּבְבִזָּ֖הuv.vi.ZahH961for manydaysיָמִֽים׃ya.MimH3117.
