2For you yourselvesαὐτοὶautoiG846knowG3609fullG199wellG199thatthe dayἡμέραhēmeraG2250of the LordκυρίουkuriouG2962will comeἔρχεται·erchetaiG2064justG5613likeG5613a thiefκλέπτηςkleptēsG2812in the nightνυκτὶnuktiG3571.

3WhileὅτανhotanG3752they are sayingλέγωσιν·legōsinG3004, “PeaceεἰρήνηeirēnēG1515and safetyἀσφάλεια,asphaleiaG803!”thenτότεtoteG5119destructionὄλεθροςolethrosG3639will comeἐφίσταταιephistataiG2186upon them suddenlyαἰφνίδιοςaiphnidiosG160likeὥσπερhōsperG5618laborG5604painsὠδὶνōdinG5604upon a woman with childἐν γαστρὶen gastriG1722 G1064,and they will not escapeἐκφύγωσιν.¶ekphugōsinG1628.

4But you, brethrenἀδελφοί,adelphoiG80, are not indarknessσκότει,skoteiG4655,that the dayἡμέραhēmeraG2250would overtakeκαταλάβῃ·katalabēG2638youlikeὡςhōsG5613a thiefκλέπτηςkleptēsG2812;

5for you are allπάντεςpantesG3956sonsυἱοὶhuioiG5207of lightφωτόςphōtosG5457and sonsυἱοὶhuioiG5207of dayἡμέρας·hēmerasG2250.We are not of nightνυκτὸςnuktosG3571norοὐδὲoudeG3761ofdarknessσκότους.¶skotousG4655;

6soἌραAraG686thenG686let us notsleepκαθεύδωμενkatheudōmenG2518asothersλοιποὶloipoiG3062do, but let us be alertγρηγορῶμενgrēgorōmenG1127andsoberνήφωμεν.nēphōmenG3525.

7For thoseοἱhoiG3588who sleepκαθεύδοντεςkatheudontesG2518doG2518their sleepingκαθεύδουσινkatheudousinG2518at nightνυκτὸςnuktosG3571,and thoseοἱhoiG3588who getG3182drunkμεθυσκόμενοιmethuskomenoiG3182getG3184drunkμεθύουσιν·methuousinG3184at nightνυκτὸςnuktosG3571.

8But since we are of thedayἡμέραςhēmerasG2250, let us besoberνήφωμενnēphōmenG3525,having putἐνδυσάμενοιendusamenoiG1746on thebreastplateθώρακαthōrakaG2382offaithπίστεωςpisteōsG4102and loveἀγάπηςagapēsG26, and as ahelmetπερικεφαλαίανperikephalaianG4030, thehopeἐλπίδαelpidaG1680of salvationσωτηρίας·sōtēriasG4991.

9For GodθεὸςtheosG2316has not destinedἔθετοethetoG5087us forwrathὀργὴνorgēnG3709, but forobtainingπεριποίησινperipoiēsinG4047salvationσωτηρίαςsōtēriasG4991throughδιὰdiaG1223our LordκυρίουkuriouG2962JesusἸησοῦIēsouG2424ChristΧριστοῦChristouG5547,

10who diedἀποθανόντοςapothanontosG599for us, soἵναinaG2443that whetherεἴτεeiteG1535we are awakeγρηγορῶμενgrēgorōmenG1127orεἴτεeiteG1535asleepκαθεύδωμενkatheudōmenG2518,we will liveζήσωμεν.¶zēsōmenG2198togetherἅμαhamaG260with Him.

11ThereforeΔιὸDioG1352encourageπαρακαλεῖτεparakaleiteG3870oneἀλλήλουςallēlousG240anotherG240andbuildοἰκοδομεῖτεoikodomeiteG3618up oneεἷςheisG1520anotherἕναhenaG1520,justκαθὼςkathōsG2531as you alsoG2532are doingποιεῖτε.¶poieiteG4160.

12But we requestἘρωτῶμενErōtōmenG2065of you, brethrenἀδελφοί,adelphoiG80, that youappreciateG3609thoseτοὺςtousG3588who diligentlyG2872laborG2872amongG1722you, andhaveG4291chargeG4291overG4291you in the LordκυρίῳkuriōG2962and giveG3560youinstructionG3560,

13and that you esteemἡγεῖσθαιhēgeisthaiG2233them veryG5239highlyG5239in loveἀγάπῃagapēG26becauseδιὰdiaG1223of their workἔργονergonG2041.LiveG1514in peaceεἰρηνεύετεeirēneueteG1514with oneG1438anotherG1438.

14We urgeΠαρακαλοῦμενParakaloumenG3870you, brethrenἀδελφοί,adelphoiG80,admonishνουθετεῖτεnoutheteiteG3560theunrulyἀτάκτους,ataktousG813,encourageπαραμυθεῖσθεparamutheistheG3888the faintheartedὀλιγοψύχους,oligopsuchousG3642,helpἀντέχεσθεantechestheG472the weakἀσθενῶν,asthenōnG772, bepatientμακροθυμεῖτεmakrothumeiteG3114with everyoneπάντας.pantasG3956.

15SeeὁρᾶτεhorateG3708thatnoμήmēG3361oneτιςtisG5100repaysἀποδῷ,apodōG591anotherτινιtiniG5100with evilκακὸνkakonG2556for evilκακοῦkakouG2556,but alwaysπάντοτεpantoteG3842seekG1377afterG1377that whichG18is goodG18for oneἀλλήλουςallēlousG240anotherG240and for allG3956peopleG3956.
