Judges 2
Darby Bible
1And the AngelH4397 of Jehovah cameH935 up from GilgalH1537 to Bochim, and saidH559, I madeH7650 you to goH935 up out of EgyptH4714, and have broughtH935 you to the landH776 which I sworeH7650 unto your fathersH1; and I saidH559, I will never breakH6565 my covenantH1285 with you; and as for you, 2ye shall makeH6213 no covenantH1285 with the inhabitantsH3427 of this landH776; ye shall throw down their altarsH4196: but ye have not hearkened unto my voiceH6963. WhyH4100 have ye done this? 3Wherefore I alsoH1571 saidH559, I will not driveH1644 them out from before you; but they shall beH1961 [scourges] in your sidesH6654, and their 1godsH430 shall beH1961 a snareH4170 unto you. 4And it came to pass, when the AngelH4397 of Jehovah spokeH1696 these wordsH1697 to all the children of IsraelH3478, that the peopleH5971 liftedH5375 up their voiceH6963 and weptH1058. 5And they calledH7121 the nameH8034 of that placeH4725 Bochim; and they sacrificedH2076 there to Jehovah. 6And JoshuaH3091 dismissed the peopleH5971, and the children of IsraelH3478 went every manH376 to his inheritanceH5159 to possessH3423 the landH776. 7And the peopleH5971 servedH5647 Jehovah all the daysH3117 of JoshuaH3091, and all the daysH3117 of the eldersH2205 whose daysH3117 were prolongedH748 after JoshuaH3091, who had seenH7200 all the greatH1419 worksH4639 of Jehovah, which he had done for IsraelH3478. 8And JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of NunH5126, the servantH5650 of Jehovah, diedH4191, a hundredH3967 and tenH6235 yearsH8141 old. 9And they buriedH6912 him in the borderH1366 of his inheritanceH5159 in Timnath-Heres, in mount EphraimH669, on the northH6828 side of the mountainH2022 of GaashH1608. 10And alsoH1571 all that generationH1755 were gatheredH622 to their fathersH1; and there aroseH6965 another generationH1755 after them, which knewH3045 not Jehovah, nor yet the worksH4639 which he had done for IsraelH3478. 11And the children of IsraelH3478 did evilH7451 in the sight of Jehovah, and servedH5647 the BaalsH1168. 12And they forsook Jehovah the 2GodH430 of their fathersH1, who had broughtH3318 them up out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, and followed otherH312 3godsH430 of the 4godsH430 of the peoplesH5971 that were roundH5439 about them, and bowedH7812 themselves to them, and provokedH3707 Jehovah to angerH3707. 13And they forsook Jehovah, and servedH5647 BaalH1168 and the Ashtoreths. 14And the angerH639 of Jehovah was hot against IsraelH3478, and he delivered them into the handsH3027 of spoilers that spoiled them, and he soldH4376 them into the handsH3027 of their enemiesH341 roundH5439 about; and they could not any longer standH5975 before their enemiesH341. 15Whithersoever they wentH3318 out the handH3027 of Jehovah wasH1961 against them for evilH7451, as Jehovah had saidH1696, and as Jehovah had swornH7650 unto them; and they were greatly distressed. 16And Jehovah raisedH6965 up judgesH8199, and they savedH3467 them out of the handH3027 of those that spoiled them. 17But they did not even hearken to their judgesH8199, for they wentH1980 a whoring after otherH312 5godsH430, and bowedH7812 themselves to them; they turnedH5493 quicklyH4118 out of the wayH1870 that their fathersH1 had walkedH1980 in, obeying the commandmentsH4687 of Jehovah; they did not soH3651. 18And when Jehovah raisedH6965 them up judgesH8199, then Jehovah wasH1961 with the judgeH8199, and savedH3467 them out of the handH3027 of their enemiesH341 all the daysH3117 of the judgeH8199; for it repentedH5162 Jehovah because of their groanings by reason of them that oppressedH3905 them and crushed them. 19And it came to pass when the judgeH8199 diedH4191, that they turnedH7725 backH7725 and corruptedH7843 themselves more than their fathersH1, in following otherH312 6godsH430 to serveH5647 them, and to bowH7812 downH7812 to them: they ceased not from their own doings, nor from their stubbornH7186 wayH1870. 20And the angerH639 of Jehovah was hot against IsraelH3478; and he saidH559, Because this nationH1471 hath transgressed my covenantH1285 which I commandedH6680 their fathersH1, and hath not hearkened unto my voiceH6963, 21I alsoH1571 will not henceforth dispossessH3423 from before them any of the nationsH1471 that JoshuaH3091 leftH5800 whenH834 he diedH4191; 22that through them I may prove IsraelH3478, whether they will keepH8104 the wayH1870 of Jehovah to walk therein, as their fathersH1 did keepH8104 [it], or not. 23Therefore Jehovah left those nationsH1471, without dispossessingH3423 them hastily, neither delivered he them into the handH3027 of JoshuaH3091.
