Judges 2
Revised Version 1895
1And the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 cameH935 upH5927 from GilgalH1537 to BochimH1066. And he saidH559, I madeH7650 youH834 to goH935 upH5927 outH4480 of EgyptH4714, and have broughtH935 youH834 unto the landH776 whichH834 I sware unto your fathersH1; and I saidH559, I will neverH3808 breakH6565 my covenantH1285 with youH834: 2and ye shall makeH6213 noH3808 covenantH1285 with the inhabitantsH3427 of this landH776; ye shall breakH5422 downH5422 their altarsH4196: but ye have notH3808 hearkened unto my voiceH6963: whyH4100 have ye doneH6213 this? 3Wherefore I also saidH559, I will notH3808 driveH1644 them outH1644 from beforeH6440 youH6440; but they shall be as thorns in your sidesH6654, and their godsH430 shall be a snareH4170 unto youH6440. 4And it cameH1961 to passH1961, when the angelH4397 of the LORDH3068 spake theseH428 wordsH1697 unto allH3605 the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478, that the peopleH5971 liftedH5375 upH5375 their voiceH6963, and weptH1058. 5And they calledH7121 the nameH8034 of that placeH4725 BochimH1066: and they sacrificedH2076 there unto the LORDH3068. 6Now when JoshuaH3091 had sentH7971 the peopleH5971 awayH7971, the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 wentH376 everyH376 manH376 unto his inheritanceH5159 to possessH3423 the landH776. 7And the peopleH5971 servedH5647 the LORDH3068 allH3605 the daysH3117 of JoshuaH3091, and allH3605 the daysH3117 of the eldersH2205 that outlivedH310 JoshuaH3091, who had seenH7200 allH3605 the greatH1419 workH4639 of the LORDH3068, that he had wroughtH4639 for IsraelH3478. 8And JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of NunH5126, the servantH5650 of the LORDH3068, diedH4191, beingH1121 an hundredH3967 and tenH6235 yearsH8141 oldH1121. 9And they buriedH6912 him in the borderH1366 of his inheritanceH5159 in Timnath-heres, in the hillH2022 countryH2022 of EphraimH669, on the northH6828 of the mountainH2022 of GaashH1608. 10And also allH3605 that generationH1755 were gatheredH622 unto their fathersH1: and there aroseH6965 anotherH312 generationH1755 afterH310 them, whichH834 knewH3045 notH3808 the LORDH3068, norH3808 yet the workH4639 whichH834 he had wroughtH4639 for IsraelH3478. 11And the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 didH6213 that whichH5869 was evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068, and servedH5647 the Baalim: 12and they forsook the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of their fathersH1, whichH834 broughtH3318 them outH3318 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, and followedH310 otherH312 godsH430, of the godsH430 of the peoplesH5971 that were roundH5439 aboutH5439 them, and bowedH7812 themselvesH310 downH7812 unto them: and they provokedH3707 the LORDH3068 to angerH3707. 13And they forsook the LORDH3068, and servedH5647 BaalH1168 and the AshtarothH6252. 14And the angerH639 of the LORDH3068 was kindledH2734 againstH2734 IsraelH3478, and he deliveredH5414 them intoH3027 the handsH3027 of spoilers that spoiled them, and he soldH4376 them intoH3027 the handsH3027 of their enemiesH341 roundH5439 aboutH5439, soH5414 that they couldH3201 notH3808 anyH5750 longerH5750 standH5975 beforeH6440 their enemiesH341. 15Whithersoever they wentH3318 outH3318, the handH3027 of the LORDH3068 was againstH1696 them for evilH7451, as the LORDH3068 had spokenH1696, and as the LORDH3068 had swornH7650 unto them: and they were sore distressed. 16And the LORDH3068 raisedH6965 upH6965 judgesH8199, which savedH3467 them outH6965 of the handH3027 of thoseH3467 that spoiled them. 17And yet they hearkened notH3808 unto their judgesH8199, for they wentH1980 a whoring afterH310 otherH312 godsH430, and bowedH7812 themselvesH310 downH7812 unto them: they turnedH5493 asideH5493 quicklyH4118 outH4480 of the wayH1870 whereinH834 their fathersH1 walkedH1980, obeyingH8085 the commandmentsH4687 of the LORDH3068; but they didH6213 notH3808 soH3651. 18And when the LORDH3068 raisedH6965 them upH6965 judgesH8199, then the LORDH3068 was with the judgeH8199, and savedH3467 them outH6440 of the handH3027 of their enemiesH341 allH3605 the daysH3117 of the judgeH8199: for it repentedH5162 the LORDH3068 becauseH3588 of their groaningH5009 by reason of them that oppressedH3905 them and vexed them. 19But it cameH1961 to passH1961, when the judgeH8199 was deadH4191, that they turnedH7725 backH7725, and dealt moreH3808 corruptlyH7843 thanH3808 their fathersH1, in followingH310 otherH312 godsH430 to serveH5647 them, and to bowH7812 downH7812 unto them; they ceased notH3808 from their doingsH4611, norH3808 from their stubbornH7186 wayH1870. 20And the angerH639 of the LORDH3068 was kindledH2734 againstH2734 IsraelH3478; and he saidH559, BecauseH3282 this nationH1471 have transgressed my covenantH1285 whichH834 I commandedH6680 their fathersH1, and have notH3808 hearkened unto my voiceH6963; 21I also will notH3808 henceforth driveH3423 outH4480 anyH4480 from beforeH6440 them of the nationsH1471 whichH834 JoshuaH3091 leftH5800 when he diedH4191: 22that by them I may prove IsraelH3478, whetherH518 they will keepH8104 the wayH1870 of the LORDH3068 to walkH1870 therein, as their fathersH1 didH834 keepH8104 it, or notH3808. 23SoH5414 the LORDH3068 leftH5414 thoseH428 nationsH1471, withoutH3808 drivingH3423 them outH3423 hastily; neitherH3808 deliveredH5414 he them intoH3027 the handH3027 of JoshuaH3091.
