Israel Rebuked
1Now 1the angelH4397 of the LordH3068 cameH5927 upH5927 from GilgalH1537 to 2BochimH1066. And he saidH559, “3I broughtH5927 you upH5927 out of EgyptH4714 and ledH935 you into the landH776 whichH834 I have swornH7650 to your fathersH1; and I saidH559, ‘4I will neverH3808H5769 breakH6565 My covenantH1285 with you, 2and as for you, 5you shall not makeH3772 a covenantH1285 with the inhabitantsH3427 of thisH2088 landH776; 6you shall tearH5422 downH5422 their altarsH4196.’ But you have not 7obeyedH8085H6963 Me; whatH4100 is thisH2088 thing that you have doneH6213? 3Therefore I alsoH1571 saidH559, ‘8I will not driveH1644 them outH1644 from you; but they will 9becomeH1961 10like thorns in your sidesH6654, and their godsH430 will be a snareH4170 to you.’” 4Now when the angelH4397 of the LordH3068 spokeH1696 theseH428 wordsH1697 to allH3605 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478, the peopleH5971 raisedH5375 their voicesH6963 and weptH1058. 5So they namedH7121H8034 that placeH4725 11BochimH1066; and thereH8033 they sacrificedH2076 to the LordH3068.
Joshua Dies
612When JoshuaH3091 had dismissedH7971 the peopleH5971, the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 wentH1980, eachH376 one to his inheritanceH5159, to takeH3423 possessionH3423 of the landH776. 7The peopleH5971 servedH5647 the LordH3068 allH3605 the daysH3117 of JoshuaH3091, and allH3605 the daysH3117 of the eldersH2205 whoH834 13survivedH748H3117H310 JoshuaH3091, whoH834 had seenH7200 allH3605 the greatH1419 workH4639 of the LordH3068 whichH834 He had doneH6213 for IsraelH3478. 8Then JoshuaH3091 the sonH1121 of NunH5126, the servantH5650 of the LordH3068, diedH4191 at the ageH1121H8141 of 110H3967H6235. 9And they buriedH6912 him in the territoryH1366 of 14his inheritanceH5159 in Timnath-heresH8556, in the hillH2022 countryH2022 of EphraimH669, northH6828 of MountH2022 GaashH1608. 10AllH3605 that generationH1755 alsoH1571 were gatheredH622 to their fathersH1; and anotherH312 generationH1755 roseH6965 upH6965 afterH310 them whoH834 15did not knowH3045 the LordH3068, nor evenH1571 the workH4639 whichH834 He had doneH6213 for IsraelH3478.
Israel Serves the Baals
11Then the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 didH6213 16evilH7451 in the sightH5869 of the LordH3068 and 17servedH5647 the 18BaalsH1168, 12and 19they abandonedH5800 the LordH3068, the GodH430 of their fathersH1, who had broughtH3318 them outH3318 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, and they followedH1980H310 otherH312 godsH430 from the godsH430 of the peoplesH5971 whoH834 were aroundH5439 them, and bowedH2331 downH2331 to them; so they provokedH3707 the LordH3068 toH3707 angerH3707. 13They abandonedH5800 the LordH3068 and 20servedH5647 BaalH1168 and the AshtarothH6252. 1421Then the angerH639 of the LordH3068 burnedH2734 against IsraelH3478, and He handedH5414H3027 them overH5414 to plunderersH8154, and they plunderedH8155 them; and 22He soldH4376 them into the handsH3027 of their enemiesH340 aroundH5439 them, so that they couldH3201 noH3808 longerH5750 standH5975 23againstH6440 their enemiesH340. 15WhereverH3605H834 they wentH3318, the handH3027 of the LordH3068 was against them for 24evilH7463, as the LordH3068 had spokenH1696 and 25justH3512 asH3512 the LordH3068 had swornH7650 to them, so that they wereH6887 severelyH3966 distressedH6887.
1626Then the LordH3068 raisedH6965 upH6965 judgesH8199 27who savedH3467 them from the handsH3027 of those who plunderedH8154 them. 17YetH1571 they did not listenH8085 to their judgesH8199, for they 28committedH2181 infidelityH2181 withH310 otherH312 godsH430 and bowedH2331 downH2331 to them. They turnedH5493 asideH5493 quicklyH4118 from the wayH1870 29in whichH834 their fathersH1 had walkedH1980 in obeyingH8085 the commandmentsH4687 of the LordH3068; they did not doH6213 the sameH3651 as their fathers. 18And whenH3588 the LordH3068 raisedH6965 upH6965 judgesH8199 for them, 30the LordH3068 was with the judgeH8199 and savedH3467 them from the handH3027 of their enemiesH340 allH3605 the daysH3117 of the judgeH8199; for the LordH3068 was 31movedH5162 toH5162 pityH5162 by their groaningH5009 becauseH4480H6440 of those who tormentedH3905 and oppressedH1766 them. 19But it cameH1961 aboutH1961, when the judgeH8199 diedH4194, that they would turnH7725 backH7725 and actH7843 moreH4480 corruptlyH7843 thanH4480 their fathersH1, in followingH1980H310 otherH312 godsH430 to serveH5647 them and bowH2331 downH2331 to them; they did not abandonH5307 their practicesH4611 or their obstinateH7186 waysH1870. 2032So the angerH639 of the LordH3068 burnedH2734 against IsraelH3478, and He saidH559, “BecauseH3282H834 thisH2088 nationH1471 has violatedH5674 My covenantH1285 whichH834 I commandedH6680 their fathersH1, and has not listenedH8085 to My voiceH6963, 2133I inH1571 turnH1571 will noH3808 longerH3254 driveH3423 outH3423 from them anyH376 of the nationsH1471 whichH834 JoshuaH3091 leftH5800 when he diedH4191, 22inH4616 orderH4616 toH4616 34testH5254 IsraelH3478 by them, whether they will keepH8104 the wayH1870 of the LordH3068 to walkH1980 in it as their fathersH1 35didH8104, orH518 not.” 23So the LordH3068 allowedH5117 thoseH428 nationsH1471 toH5117 remainH5117, not drivingH3423 them outH3423 quicklyH4118; and He did not handH5414H3027 them overH5414 to JoshuaH3091.
