Judges 16

Darby Bible

1And SamsonH8123 wentH935 to Gazah, and sawH7200 there a harlot, and wentH935 in to her. 2[And it was told] the Gazathites, sayingH559, SamsonH8123 is comeH935 hither. And they surroundedH5437 [him], and laid waitH693 for him all nightH3915 at the gateH8179 of the cityH5892, and were quiet all the nightH3915, sayingH559, In the morningH1242 lightH216 we will killH2026 him. 3And SamsonH8123 layH7901 till midnight; and he aroseH6965 at midnight, and seizedH270 the doorsH1817 of the gateH8179 of the cityH5892, and the twoH8147 posts, and tore them up with the barH1280, and putH7760 [them] upon his shouldersH3802, and carried them up to the topH7218 of the mountainH2022 that is before HebronH2275. 4And it came to pass afterwards that he lovedH157 a womanH802 in the valley of Sorek, whose nameH8034 was DelilahH1807. 5And the lords of the PhilistinesH6430 cameH5927 up to her, and saidH559 to her, Persuade him, and seeH7200 in what his greatH1419 strengthH3581 is, and with what we may prevailH3201 against him, that we may bindH631 him to overpower him; and we will each giveH5414 thee eleven hundredH3967 silver-pieces. 6Then DelilahH1807 saidH559 to SamsonH8123, TellH5046 me, I pray thee, in what is thy greatH1419 strengthH3581, and with what thou mightest be boundH631 to overpower thee. 7And SamsonH8123 saidH559 to her, If they should bindH631 me with sevenH7651 freshH3892 cords which have not beenH1961 dried, then should I beH1961 weak, and beH1961 as another manH120. 8Then the lords of the PhilistinesH6430 broughtH5927 up to her sevenH7651 freshH3892 cords which had not been dried, and she boundH631 him with them. 9Now she had liers in waitH693 abiding in the chamberH2315; and she saidH559 to him, The PhilistinesH6430 are upon thee, SamsonH8123! And he broke the cordsH6616, as a thread of towH5296 is broken whenH834 it touches the fireH784; and his strengthH3581 was not knownH3045. 10And DelilahH1807 saidH559 to SamsonH8123, Behold, thou hast mocked me and toldH5046 me liesH3576. NowH6258 tellH5046 me, I pray thee, with what thou mightest be boundH631. 11And he saidH559 to her, If they should bindH631 me fast with newH2319 ropesH5688, with which no workH4399 has beenH1961 done, then should I beH1961 weak, and beH1961 as another manH120. 12And DelilahH1807 tookH3947 newH2319 ropesH5688, and boundH631 him with them, and saidH559 to him, The PhilistinesH6430 are upon thee, SamsonH8123! Now there were liers in waitH693 abiding in the chamberH2315. And he broke them from off his armsH2220 like a threadH2339. 13And DelilahH1807 saidH559 to SamsonH8123, Hitherto thou hast mocked me and toldH5046 me liesH3576. TellH5046 me with what thou mightest be boundH631. And he saidH559 to her, If thou shouldest weaveH707 the sevenH7651 locks of my headH7218 with the webH4545. 14And she fastened it with the pinH3489, and saidH559 to him, The PhilistinesH6430 are upon thee, SamsonH8123! And he awokeH3364 out of his sleepH8142, and tore out the pinH3489 of the beam, and the webH4545. 15Then she saidH559 to him, HowH4100 canst thou sayH559, I loveH157 thee, when thy heartH3820 is not with me? these threeH7969 timesH6471 hast thou mocked me, and hast not toldH5046 me in what is thy greatH1419 strengthH3581. 16And it came to pass when she pressed him daily with her wordsH1697 and urged him, that his soulH5315 wasH1961 vexed unto deathH4191; 17and he toldH5046 her all his heartH3820, and saidH559 to her, There has not come a razor upon my headH7218; for I am a Nazarite of 1GodH430 from my mother's wombH990; if I should beH1961 shaven, then my strengthH3581 would goH5927 from me, and I should beH1961 weak, and beH1961 like all mankind. 18And DelilahH1807 sawH7200 that he had toldH5046 her all his heartH3820, and she sentH7971 and calledH7121 for the lords of the PhilistinesH6430, sayingH559, ComeH5927 up this timeH6471, for he has toldH5046 me all his heartH3820. And the lords of the PhilistinesH6430 cameH5927 up to her, and broughtH5927 the moneyH3701 in their handH3027. 19And she made him sleepH3462 upon her knees, and calledH7121 a manH376, and she caused him to shaveH1548 off the sevenH7651 locks of his headH7218; and she beganH2490 to overpower him, and his strengthH3581 went from him. 20And she saidH559, The PhilistinesH6430 are upon thee, SamsonH8123! And he awokeH3364 out of his sleepH8142, and thought, I will goH3318 out as at other timesH6471 before, and disengage myself. And he knewH3045 not that Jehovah had departed from him. 21And the PhilistinesH6430 seizedH270 him, and put out his eyesH5869, and broughtH3381 him downH3381 to Gazah, and boundH631 him with fettersH5178 of bronzeH5178; and he had to grindH2912 in the prison-house. 22But the hairH8181 of his headH7218 beganH2490 to growH6779 after he was shavedH1548. 23Then the lords of the PhilistinesH6430 gatheredH622 together to sacrificeH2077 a greatH1419 sacrificeH2077 to DagonH1712 their 2godH430, and to rejoice; for they saidH559, Our 3godH430 has givenH5414 SamsonH8123 our enemyH341 into our handsH3027. 24And when the peopleH5971 sawH7200 him, they praisedH1984 their 4godH430; for they saidH559, Our 5godH430 has givenH5414 into our handsH3027 our enemyH341, and the destroyer of our country, even him who multipliedH7235 our slainH2491. 25And it came to pass when their heartsH3820 wereH1961 merry, that they saidH559, CallH7121 for SamsonH8123, that he may make us sport. And they calledH7121 for SamsonH8123 out of the prison-house, and he playedH7832 before them; and they setH5975 him between the pillarsH5982. 26And SamsonH8123 saidH559 to the ladH5288 that heldH2388 him by the handH3027, Let loose of me, and suffer me to feel the pillarsH5982 upon which the houseH1004 stands, that I may leanH8172 upon them. 27Now the houseH1004 was fullH4390 of menH376 and womenH802; and all the lords of the PhilistinesH6430 were there; and upon the roofH1406 there were about threeH7969 thousandH505 menH376 and womenH802, who lookedH7200 on while SamsonH8123 made sport. 28And SamsonH8123 calledH7121 to Jehovah, and saidH559, Lord Jehovah, rememberH2142 me, I pray thee, and strengthenH2388 me, I pray thee, onlyH389 this once, O 6GodH430, that I may takeH2388 oneH259 vengeanceH5359 upon the PhilistinesH6430 for my twoH8147 eyesH5869. 29And SamsonH8123 took hold of the twoH8147 middleH8432 pillarsH5982 upon which the houseH1004 stood (and he supported himself upon them), the oneH259 with his rightH3225 handH3225 and the other with his left. 30And SamsonH8123 saidH559, Let me dieH4191 with the PhilistinesH6430! And he bowed himself with might; and the houseH1004 fellH5307 on the lords, and on all the peopleH5971 that were therein. So the deadH4191 that he slew at his deathH4191 were more than those whom he had slain in his lifeH5315. 31And his brethren cameH5927 downH3381, and all the houseH1004 of his fatherH1, and tookH5375 him, and broughtH5927 him up, and buriedH6912 him between Zoreah and EshtaolH847 in the sepulchre of ManoahH4495 his fatherH1. And he had judgedH8199 IsraelH3478 twentyH6242 yearsH8141.
