Exodus 17:2-7
2So the peopleH5971 contendedH7378 withH5973 MosesH4872, “GiveH5414 us waterH4325 to drinkH8354.”
“WhyH4100 do you contendH7378 with meH5978?” MosesH4872 repliedH559. “WhyH4100 do you testH5254 the LORDH3068?”
3But the peopleH5971 thirstedH6770 for waterH4325 thereH8033, and they grumbledH3885H5971 againstH5921 MosesH4872H559: “WhyH4100 have you brought usH5927 out of EgyptH4714—to makeH4191 usH853 andH853 our childrenH1121 and livestockH4735 die of thirstH6772?”
4Then MosesH4872 cried outH6817 toH413 the LORDH3068H559, “WhatH4100 should I doH6213 with theseH2088 peopleH5971? A little moreH5750H4592 and they will stone meH5619!”
5And the LORDH3068 saidH559 toH413 MosesH4872, “Walk onH5674 ahead ofH6440 the peopleH5971 and takeH3947 some of the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478 with youH854. Take alongH3947 in your handH3027 the staffH4294 with whichH834 you struckH5221 the NileH2975, and goH1980. 6BeholdH2005, I will standH5975 thereH8033 beforeH6440 youH5921 by the rockH6697 at HorebH2722.1 And when you strikeH5221 the rockH6697, waterH4325 will come outH3318 of itH4480 for the peopleH5971 to drinkH8354.”
So MosesH4872 didH6213 thisH3651 in the sightH5869 of the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478. 7He namedH7121H8034 the placeH4725 MassahH45322 and MeribahH48093 becauseH5921 the IsraelitesH1121H3478 quarreledH7379, and becauseH5921 they testedH5254 the LORDH3068, sayingH559, “IsH3426 the LORDH3068 among usH7130 orH518 notH369?”
