Shishak of Egypt Invades Judah

1When the kingdomמַלְכ֤וּתmal.KhutH4438of Rehoboamרְחַבְעָם֙re.chav.'AmH7346was establishedכְּהָכִ֞יןke.ha.KhinH3559and strongוּכְחֶזְקָת֔וֹu.khe.chez.ka.ToH2393,he and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478with him forsookעָזַ֖ב'a.ZavH5800the lawתּוֹרַ֣תto.RatH8451of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068.

2And it cameוַיְהִ֞יvay.HiH1961about in Kingלַמֶּ֣לֶךְla.Me.lekhH4428Rehoboam’sרְחַבְעָ֔םre.chav.'AmH7346fifthהַֽחֲמִישִׁית֙ha.cha.mi.ShitH2549yearבַּשָּׁנָ֤הba.sha.NahH8141,becauseכִּ֥יkiH3588they had beenH4603unfaithfulH4603to the Lordבַּיהוָֽה׃ba.Yah.wehH3068, thatShishakשִׁישַׁ֥קshi.ShakH7895kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Egyptמִצְרַ֖יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714cameעָלָ֛ה'a.LahH5927up againstעַל־'al-H5921Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִָ֑םye.ru.sha.LimH3389

3with 1,200בְּאֶ֤לֶף וּמָאתַ֙יִם֙be.'E.lef u.ma.Ta.yimH505 H3967chariotsרֶ֔כֶבRe.khevH7393and 60,000וּבְשִׁשִּׁ֥ים אֶ֖לֶףu.ve.shi.Shim 'E.lefH8346 H505horsemenפָּרָשִׁ֑יםpa.ra.ShimH6571.And the peopleלָעָ֞םla.'AmH5971whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834cameבָּ֤אוּBa.'uH935with him from Egyptמִמִּצְרַ֔יִםmi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714were withoutוְאֵ֣יןve.'EinH369numberמִסְפָּ֗רmis.ParH4557:the Lubimלוּבִ֥יםlu.VimH3864,the Sukkiimסֻכִּיִּ֖יםsu.ki.YimH5525and the Ethiopiansוְכוּשִֽׁים׃ve.khu.ShimH3569.

4He capturedוַיִּלְכֹּ֛דvai.yil.KodH3920the fortifiedהַמְּצֻר֖וֹתha.me.tzu.RotH4694citiesעָרֵ֥י'a.ReiH5892of Judahלִֽיהוּדָ֑הli.hu.DahH3063and cameוַיָּבֹ֖אvai.ya.Vo'H935as farעַד־'ad-H5704as Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ סye.ru.sha.LimH3389.

5ThenShemaiahוּֽשְׁמַֽעְיָ֤הu.she.ma'.YahH8098the prophetהַנָּבִיא֙ha.na.Vi'H5030cameבָּ֣אba'H935to Rehoboamרְחַבְעָ֔םre.chav.'AmH7346and the princesוְשָׂרֵ֣יve.sa.ReiH8269of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834had gatheredנֶאֶסְפ֥וּne.'es.FuH622at Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַ֖םye.ru.sha.LimH3389becauseמִפְּנֵ֣יmi.pe.NeiH4480 H6440of Shishakשִׁישָׁ֑קshi.ShakH7895,and he saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to them, “Thusכֹּה־koh-H3541saysאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068, ‘You have forsakenעֲזַבְתֶּ֣ם'a.zav.TemH5800Me, so I alsoוְאַף־ve.'af-H637have forsakenעָזַ֥בְתִּי'a.Zav.tiH5800youto Shishakשִׁישָֽׁק׃shi.ShakH7895.’”

6So the princesשָׂרֵֽי־sa.rei-H8269of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478and the kingוְהַמֶּ֑לֶךְve.ha.Me.lekhH4428humbledוַיִּכָּנְע֥וּvai.yi.ka.ne.'UH3665themselves and saidוַיֹּאמְר֖וּvai.yo.me.RuH559, “TheLordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068is righteousצַדִּ֥יק׀tza.DikH6662.”

7When the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068sawוּבִרְא֤וֹתu.vir.'otH7200that they humbledנִכְנָ֔עוּnikh.Na.'uH3665themselves, the wordדְבַר־de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָ֨הYah.wehH3068cameהָיָה֩ha.YahH1961to Shemaiahשְׁמַֽעְיָ֧ה׀she.ma'.YahH8098,sayingלֵאמֹ֛רle.MorH559, “They have humbledנִכְנְע֖וּnikh.ne.'UH3665themselves soI will not destroyאַשְׁחִיתֵ֑ם'ash.chi.TemH7843them, but I will grantוְנָתַתִּ֨יve.na.ta.TiH5414them someכִּמְעַט֙kim.'AtH4592measureof deliveranceלִפְלֵיטָ֔הlif.lei.TahH6413, andMy wrathחֲמָתִ֛יcha.ma.TiH2534shall not be pouredתִתַּ֧ךְti.TakhH5413out on Jerusalemבִּירוּשָׁלִַ֖םbi.ru.sha.LimH3389by meansבְּיַד־be.yad-H3027of Shishakשִׁישָֽׁק׃shi.ShakH7895.

8But they will becomeיִהְיוּ־yih.yu-H1961his slavesלַעֲבָדִ֑יםla.'a.va.DimH5650sothat they may learnוְיֵדְעוּ֙ve.ye.de.'UH3045the difference betweenMy serviceעֲב֣וֹדָתִ֔יa.Vo.da.TiH5656and the serviceוַעֲבוֹדַ֖תva.'a.vo.DatH5656of the kingdomsמַמְלְכ֥וֹתmam.le.KhotH4467of the countriesהָאֲרָצֽוֹת׃ סha.'a.ra.TzotH776.”

9So Shishakשִׁישַׁ֥קshi.ShakH7895kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Egyptמִצְרַיִם֮mitz.ra.YimH4714cameוַיַּ֨עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927up againstעַל־'al-H5921Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִַם֒ye.ru.sha.LimH3389,and tookוַיִּקַּ֞חvai.yi.KachH3947the treasuresאֹצְר֣וֹת'o.tze.RotH214of the houseבֵּית־beit-H1004of the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068and the treasuresאֹֽצְרוֹת֙'o.tze.rOtH214of the king’sהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428palaceבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004.He tookלָקָ֑חla.KachH3947everythingהַכֹּ֖לha.KolH3605;he even tookוַיִּקַּח֙vai.yi.KachH3947the goldenהַזָּהָ֔בha.za.HavH2091shieldsמָגִנֵּ֣יma.gi.NeiH4043whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834Solomonשְׁלֹמֹֽה׃she.lo.MohH8010had madeעָשָׂ֖ה'a.SahH6213.

10Then Kingהַמֶּ֤לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Rehoboamרְחַבְעָם֙re.chav.'AmH7346madeוַיַּ֨עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213shieldsמָגִנֵּ֖יma.gi.NeiH4043of bronzeנְחֹ֑שֶׁתne.Cho.shetH5178in their placeתַּחְתֵּיהֶ֔םtach.tei.HemH8478and committedוְהִפְקִ֗ידve.hif.KidH6485them to thecareיַד֙yadH3027of the commandersשָׂרֵ֣יsa.ReiH8269of theguardהָרָצִ֔יםha.ra.TzimH7323who guardedהַשֹּׁ֣מְרִ֔יםha.Sho.me.RimH8104the doorפֶּ֖תַחPe.tachH6607of the king’sהַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ha.Me.lekhH4428houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004.

11As oftenמִדֵּי־mi.dei-H1767as the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428enteredב֥וֹאVo'H935the houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068, theguardsהָרָצִים֙ha.ra.TzimH7323cameבָּ֤אוּBa.'uH935and carriedוּנְשָׂא֔וּםu.ne.sa.'UmH5375them and thenbroughtH7725them backH7725into theguards’הָרָצִֽים׃ha.ra.TzimH7323roomתָּ֥אta'H8372.

12Andwhen he humbledוּבְהִכָּֽנְע֗וֹu.ve.hi.ka.ne.'OH3665himself, the angerאַף־'af-H639of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068turnedשָׁ֤בshavH7725awayH7725from him, so as not to destroyלְהַשְׁחִ֖יתle.hash.ChitH7843himcompletelyלְכָלָ֑הle.kha.LahH3617;and alsoוְגַם֙ve.GamH1571conditionsדְּבָרִ֥יםde.va.RimH1697were goodטוֹבִֽים׃ סto.VimH2896in Judahבִּֽיהוּדָ֔הbi.hu.DahH3063.

14He didוַיַּ֖עַשׂvai.Ya.'asH6213evilהָרָ֑עha.Ra'H7451becauseכִּ֣יkiH3588he did not setהֵכִין֙he.KhinH3559his heartלִבּ֔וֹli.BoH3820to seekלִדְר֖וֹשׁlid.Ro.oshH1875the Lordיְהוָֽה׃ סYah.wehH3068.
