Numbers 25:3-13

3And IsraelH3478 joinedH6775 himself unto Baal-peorH1187: and the angerH639 of Jehovah was kindled against IsraelH3478. 4And Jehovah saidH559 unto MosesH4872, TakeH3947 all the chiefsH7218 of the peopleH5971, and hang them up unto Jehovah before the sunH8121, that the fierce angerH639 of Jehovah may turnH7725 awayH7725 from IsraelH3478. 5And MosesH4872 saidH559 unto the judgesH8199 of IsraelH3478, SlayH2026 ye every oneH376 his menH376 that have joinedH6775 themselves unto Baal-peorH1187.

6And, behold, oneH376 of the children of IsraelH3478 cameH935 and broughtH935 unto his brethren a Midianitish womanH4084 in the sight of MosesH4872, and in the sight of all the congregationH5712 of the children of IsraelH3478, while they were weepingH1058 at the doorH6607 of the tentH168 of meetingH4150. 7And when PhinehasH6372, the sonH1121 of EleazarH499, the sonH1121 of AaronH175 the priestH3548, sawH7200 it, he roseH6965 up from the midstH8432 of the congregationH5712, and tookH3947 a spearH7420 in his handH3027; 8and he wentH935 after the manH376 of IsraelH3478 into the pavilion, and thrust both of them through, the manH376 of IsraelH3478, and the womanH802 through her body. So the plagueH4046 was stayed from the children of IsraelH3478. 9And those that diedH4191 by the plagueH4046 wereH1961 twentyH6242 and fourH702 thousandH505.

10And Jehovah spake unto MosesH4872, sayingH559, 11PhinehasH6372, the sonH1121 of EleazarH499, the sonH1121 of AaronH175 the priestH3548, hath turnedH7725 my wrathH2534 awayH7725 from the children of IsraelH3478, in that he was jealousH7065 with my jealousyH7068 among them, so that I consumed not the children of IsraelH3478 in my jealousyH7068. 12Wherefore sayH559, Behold, I giveH5414 unto him my covenantH1285 of peaceH7965: 13and it shall beH1961 unto him, and to his seedH2233 after him, the covenantH1285 of an everlasting priesthoodH3550; because he wasH1961 jealousH7065 for his GodH430, and made atonementH3722 for the children of IsraelH3478.
