Exodus 16
American Standard Version
1And they took their journey from ElimH362, and all the congregationH5712 of the children of IsraelH3478 cameH935 unto the wildernessH4057 of Sin, which is between ElimH362 and SinaiH5514, on the fifteenth dayH3117 of the secondH8145 monthH2320 after their departing out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714. 2And the whole congregationH5712 of the children of IsraelH3478 murmured against MosesH4872 and against AaronH175 in the wildernessH4057: 3and the children of IsraelH3478 saidH559 unto them, Would that we had diedH4191 by the handH3027 of Jehovah in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, when we satH3427 by the flesh-pots, when we did eatH398 breadH3899 to the full; for ye have broughtH3318 us forthH3318 into this wildernessH4057, to killH4191 this whole assemblyH6951 with hungerH7458.
4Then saidH559 Jehovah unto MosesH4872, Behold, I will rainH4305 breadH3899 from heavenH8064 for you; and the peopleH5971 shall goH3318 out and gatherH3950 a day’sH3117 portion every dayH3117, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my lawH8451, or not. 5And it shall comeH935 to pass on the sixthH8345 dayH3117, that they shall prepareH3559 that which they bringH935 in, and it shall beH1961 twice as much as they gatherH3950 daily. 6And MosesH4872 and AaronH175 saidH559 unto all the children of IsraelH3478, At even, then ye shall knowH3045 that Jehovah hath broughtH3318 you out from the landH776 of EgyptH4714; 7and in the morningH1242, then ye shall seeH7200 the gloryH3519 of Jehovah; for that he heareth your murmurings against Jehovah: and what are we, that ye murmur against us? 8And MosesH4872 saidH559, This shall be, when Jehovah shall giveH5414 you in the eveningH6153 fleshH1320 to eatH398, and in the morningH1242 breadH3899 to the full; for that Jehovah heareth your murmurings which ye murmur against him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against Jehovah. 9And MosesH4872 saidH559 unto AaronH175, SayH559 unto all the congregationH5712 of the children of IsraelH3478, Come near before Jehovah; for he hath heardH8085 your murmurings. 10And it came to pass, as AaronH175 spake unto the whole congregationH5712 of the children of IsraelH3478, that they lookedH7200 toward the wildernessH4057, and, behold, the gloryH3519 of Jehovah appearedH7200 in the cloudH6051. 11And Jehovah spake unto MosesH4872, sayingH559, 12I have heardH8085 the murmurings of the children of IsraelH3478: speakH1696 unto them, sayingH559, At even ye shall eatH398 fleshH1320, and in the morningH1242 ye shall be filled with breadH3899: and ye shall knowH3045 that I am Jehovah your GodH430.
13And it came to pass at even, that the quailsH7958 came up, and coveredH3680 the campH4264: and in the morningH1242 the dewH2919 lay roundH5439 about the campH4264. 14And when the dewH2919 that lay was goneH5927 up, behold, upon the faceH6440 of the wildernessH4057 a small round thing, small as the hoar-frost on the groundH776. 15And when the children of IsraelH3478 sawH7200 it, they saidH559 oneH376 to another, What is it? for they knewH3045 not what it was. And MosesH4872 saidH559 unto them, It is the breadH3899 which Jehovah hath givenH5414 you to eat. 16This is the thingH1697 which Jehovah hath commandedH6680, GatherH3950 ye of it every manH376 according to his eating; an omer a headH1538, according to the numberH4557 of your personsH5315, shall ye takeH3947 it, every manH376 for them that are in his tentH168. 17And the children of IsraelH3478 did soH3651, and gatheredH3950 some more, some less. 18And when they measuredH4058 it with an omer, he that gatheredH3950 muchH7235 had nothing over, and he that gatheredH3950 littleH4591 had no lackH2637; they gatheredH3950 every manH376 according to his eating. 19And MosesH4872 saidH559 unto them, Let no manH376 leaveH3498 of it till the morningH1242. 20Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto MosesH4872; but some of them leftH3498 of it until the morningH1242, and it bred wormsH8438, and becameH887 foul: and MosesH4872 was wroth with them.
21And they gatheredH3950 it morningH1242 by morningH1242, every manH376 according to his eating: and when the sunH8121 waxed hotH2552, it meltedH4549. 22And it cameH935 to pass, that on the sixthH8345 dayH3117 they gatheredH3950 twice as much breadH3899, twoH8147 omersH6016 for each oneH259: and all the rulers of the congregationH5712 cameH935 and toldH5046 MosesH4872. 23And he saidH559 unto them, This is that which Jehovah hath spokenH1696, To-morrow is a solemn rest, a holyH6944 sabbathH7676 unto Jehovah: bakeH644 that which ye will bakeH644, and boilH1310 that which ye will boilH1310; and all that remaineth over lay up for you to be keptH4931 until the morningH1242. 24And they laid it up till the morningH1242, as MosesH4872 bade: and it did not becomeH1961 foul, neither wasH1961 there any worm therein. 25And MosesH4872 saidH559, EatH398 that to-day; for to-day is a sabbathH7676 unto Jehovah: to-day ye shall not findH4672 it in the fieldH7704. 26SixH8337 daysH3117 ye shall gatherH3950 it; but on the seventhH7637 dayH3117 is the sabbathH7676, in it there shall beH1961 none. 27And it came to pass on the seventhH7637 dayH3117, that there wentH3318 out some of the peopleH5971 to gatherH3950, and they foundH4672 none. 28And Jehovah saidH559 unto MosesH4872, How long refuseH3985 ye to keepH8104 my commandmentsH4687 and my lawsH8451? 29SeeH7200, for that Jehovah hath givenH5414 you the sabbathH7676, thereforeH3651 he giveth you on the sixthH8345 dayH3117 the breadH3899 of two daysH3117; abide ye every manH376 in his placeH4725, let no manH376 goH3318 out of his placeH4725 on the seventhH7637 dayH3117. 30So the peopleH5971 restedH7673 on the seventhH7637 dayH3117.
31And the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478 calledH7121 the nameH8034 thereof MannaH4478: and it was like corianderH1407 seedH2233, whiteH3836; and the tasteH2940 of it was like wafers made with honeyH1706. 32And MosesH4872 saidH559, This is the thingH1697 which Jehovah hath commandedH6680, Let an omerful of it be keptH4931 throughout your generationsH1755, that they may seeH7200 the breadH3899 wherewith I fed you in the wildernessH4057, whenH834 I broughtH3318 you forthH3318 from the landH776 of EgyptH4714. 33And MosesH4872 saidH559 unto AaronH175, TakeH3947 a pot, and putH5414 an omerful of mannaH4478 therein, and lay it up before Jehovah, to be keptH4931 throughout your generationsH1755. 34As Jehovah commandedH6680 MosesH4872, so AaronH175 laid it up before the TestimonyH5715, to be keptH4931. 35And the children of IsraelH3478 did eatH398 the mannaH4478 fortyH705 yearsH8141, until they cameH935 to a landH776 inhabitedH3427; they did eatH398 the mannaH4478, until they cameH935 unto the borders of the landH776 of CanaanH3667. 36Now an omer is the tenthH6224 part of an ephahH374.
