2 Samuel 23

1Now these are the lastH314 wordsH1697 of DavidH1732.

DavidH1732 the sonH1121 of JesseH3448 saith,And the manH1397 who was raisedH6965 on high saith,The anointedH4899 of the GodH430 of JacobH3290,And the sweet psalmist of IsraelH3478:2The SpiritH7307 of Jehovah spake by me,And his word was upon my tongueH3956.3The GodH430 of IsraelH3478 saidH559,The RockH6697 of IsraelH3478 spake to me:One that ruleth over menH120 righteously,That ruleth in the fearH3374 of GodH430,4He shall beas the lightH216 of the morningH1242, when the sunH8121 riseth,A morningH1242 without cloudsH5645,Whenthe tender grassH1877springeth out of the earthH776,Through clear shining after rainH4306.5Verily my houseH1004 is not soH3651 with GodH410;Yet he hath madeH7760 with me an everlasting covenantH1285,Ordered in all things, and sure:For it is all my salvationH3468, and allmydesireH2656,Although he maketh it not to growH6779.6But the ungodly shall be all of them as thornsH6975 to be thrust awayH3947,Because they cannot be takenH3947 with the handH3027;7But the manH376 that toucheth themMust be armed with ironH1270 and the staff of a spearH2595:And they shall be utterly burnedH8313 with fireH784 in their place.

8These are the namesH8034 of the mightyH1368 menH1368 whom DavidH1732 had: Josheb-basshebeth a Tahchemonite, chiefH7218 of the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite, against eightH8083 hundredH3967 slainH2491 at oneH259 timeH6471.

9And after him was EleazarH499 the sonH1121 of Dodai the sonH1121 of an AhohiteH266, oneH376 of the threeH7969 mightyH1368 menH376 with DavidH1732, when they defied the PhilistinesH6430 that were there gatheredH622 together to battleH4421, and the menH376 of IsraelH3478 were goneH5927 away. 10He aroseH6965, and smote the PhilistinesH6430 until his handH3027 was wearyH3021, and his handH3027 clave unto the swordH2719; and Jehovah wrought a greatH1419 victoryH8668 that dayH3117; and the peopleH5971 returnedH7725 after him onlyH389 to take spoil.

11And after him wasH1961 Shammah the sonH1121 of Agee a HarariteH2043. And the PhilistinesH6430 wereH1961 gatheredH622 together into a troop, where wasH1961 a plot of ground fullH4395 of lentilsH5742; and the peopleH5971 fledH5127 from the PhilistinesH6430. 12But he stoodH3320 in the midstH8432 of the plot, and defended it, and slew the PhilistinesH6430; and Jehovah wrought a greatH1419 victoryH8668.

13And three of the thirtyH7970 chiefH7218 men wentH935 downH3381, and cameH935 to DavidH1732 in the harvestH7105 time unto the caveH4631 of AdullamH5725; and the troop of the PhilistinesH6430 was encampedH2583 in the valleyH6010 of RephaimH7497. 14And DavidH1732 was thenH227 in the stronghold; and the garrisonH4673 of the PhilistinesH6430 was thenH227 in Beth-lehem. 15And DavidH1732 longed, and saidH559, Oh that oneH834 would giveH8248 me waterH4325 to drinkH8248 of the wellH877 of Beth-lehem, which is by the gateH8179! 16And the threeH7969 mightyH1368 menH1368 brake through the host of the PhilistinesH6430, and drewH7579 waterH4325 out of the wellH877 of Beth-lehem, that was by the gateH8179, and tookH5375 it, and broughtH935 it to DavidH1732: but he wouldH14 not drinkH8354 thereof, but poured it out unto Jehovah. 17And he saidH559, Be it farH2486 from me, O Jehovah, that I should do this: shall I drinkH8354 the bloodH1818 of the menH376 that wentH1980 in jeopardy of their livesH5315? therefore he wouldH14 not drinkH8354 it. These thingsH428 did the threeH7969 mightyH1368 menH376.

18And AbishaiH52, the brotherH251 of JoabH3097, the sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870, was chiefH7218 of the threeH7969. And he lifted up his spearH2595 against threeH7969 hundredH3967 and slew them, and had a nameH8034 among the threeH7969. 19WasH1961 he not most honorable of the threeH7969? therefore he wasH1961 madeH3513 their captain: howbeit he attained not unto the first threeH7969.

20And BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077, the sonH1121 of a valiant manH376 of KabzeelH6909, who had done mighty deedsH6467, he slew the twoH8147 sonsH1121 of Ariel of MoabH4124: he wentH3381 downH3381 also and slew a lionH738 in the midstH8432 of a pitH953 in time of snowH7950. 21And he slewH2026 an EgyptianH4713, a goodly manH376: and the EgyptianH4713 had a spearH2595 in his handH3027; but he wentH3381 downH3381 to him with a staffH7626, and plucked the spearH2595 out of the Egyptian’s handH3027, and slewH2026 him with his own spearH2595. 22These thingsH428 did BenaiahH1141 the sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077, and had a nameH8034 among the threeH7969 mightyH1368 menH1368. 23He was moreH4480 honorable than the thirtyH7970, but he attained not to the first threeH7969. And DavidH1732 setH7760 him over his guard.
