3Nowit cameH1961aboutH1961,asH3512soonH3512asH3512the kingdomהַמַּמְלָכָ֖הha.mam.la.KhahH4467wasH2388firmlyH2388in his graspעָלָ֑יו'a.LavH5921,that he killedוַֽיַּהֲרֹג֙vai.ya.ha.RogH2026his servantsעֲבָדָ֔יו'a.va.DavH5650who had killedהַמַּכִּ֖יםha.ma.KimH5221his fatherאָבִֽיו׃'a.VivH1the kingהַמֶּ֥לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428.

10Then Amaziahאֲמַצְיָ֗הוּ'a.matz.Ya.huH558dismissedוַיַּבְדִּילֵ֣םvai.yav.di.LemH914the troopsלְהַגְּדוּד֙le.ha.ge.DudH1416whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834cameבָּ֤אba'H935to him from Ephraimמֵֽאֶפְרַ֔יִםme.'ef.Ra.yimH669,to goלָלֶ֖כֶתla.Le.khetH1980homeלִמְקוֹמָ֑םlim.ko.MamH4725;so their angerאַפָּ֤ם'a.PamH639burnedוַיִּ֨חַרvai.Yi.charH2734against Judahבִּֽיהוּדָ֔הbi.hu.DahH3063,and they returnedוַיָּשׁ֥וּבוּvai.ya.Shu.vuH7725homeלִמְקוֹמָ֖םlim.ko.MamH4725in fierceבָּחֳרִי־bo.cho.ri-H2750angerאָֽף׃ פ'AfH639.

11Now Amaziahוַאֲמַצְיָ֙הוּ֙va.'a.matz.Ya.huH558gatheredH2388his courageH2388and ledH5090his peopleעַמּ֔וֹa.MoH5971outH5090,and wentוַיֵּ֖לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980tothe Valleyגֵּ֣יאgei'H1516of Saltהַמֶּ֑לַחha.Me.lachH4417,and struckH5221andH5221killedH5221tenעֲשֶׂ֥רֶת'a.Se.retH6235thousandאֲלָפִֽים׃'a.la.FimH505of the sonsבְּנֵי־be.nei-H1121of Seirשֵׂעִ֖ירse.'IrH8165.

12The sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063also capturedשָׁבוּ֙sha.VuH7617tenוַעֲשֶׂ֨רֶתva.'a.Se.retH6235thousandאֲלָפִ֜ים'a.la.FimH505aliveחַיִּ֗יםchai.YimH2416and broughtוַיְבִיא֖וּםvay.vi.'UmH935them to the topלְרֹ֣אשׁle.RoshH7218of the cliffהַסָּ֑לַעha.Sa.la'H5553,and threwH7993them downH7993from the topמֵֽרֹאשׁ־me.rosh-H7218of the cliffהַסֶּ֖לַעha.Se.la'H5553so that they were allוְכֻלָּ֥םve.khu.LamH3605dashedH1234toH1234piecesH1234.

Amaziah Rebuked for Idolatry

14Now afterאַחֲרֵ֨י'a.cha.ReiH310Amaziahאֲמַצְיָ֙הוּ֙'a.matz.Ya.huH558cameוַיְהִ֗יvay.HiH1961from slaughteringמֵֽהַכּ֣וֹתme.ha.KotH5221the Edomitesאֲדוֹמִ֔ים'a.do.MimH130,he broughtH935the godsאֱלֹהֵי֙'e.lo.HeiH430of the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Seirשֵׂעִ֔ירse.'IrH8165and setוַיַּֽעֲמִידֵ֥םvai.ya.'a.mi.DemH5975them up as his godsלֵאלֹהִ֑יםle.lo.HimH430.Then he bowedH2331downH2331beforeוְלִפְנֵיהֶ֥םve.lif.nei.HemH6440them and burnedH6999incenseH6999to them.

15So the angerאַ֥ף'afH639of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068burnedוַיִּֽחַר־vai.yi.char-H2734against Amaziahבַּאֲמַצְיָ֑הוּba.'a.matz.Ya.huH558,and He sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֤חvai.yish.LachH7971him a prophetנָבִ֔יאna.Vi'H5030who saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Whyלָ֤מָּהLa.mahH4100have you soughtדָרַ֙שְׁתָּ֙da.Rash.taH1875the godsאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971whoאֲשֶׁ֛ר'a.SherH834have not savedהִצִּ֥ילוּhi.Tzi.luH5337their own peopleעַמָּ֖ם'a.MamH5971from your handמִיָּדֶֽךָ׃mi.ya.De.khaH3027?”

16As he was talkingבְּדַבְּר֣וֹbe.da.be.RoH1696with him,the king saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Have we appointedנְתַנּ֔וּךָne.ta.Nu.khaH5414you to be a royalלַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙la.Me.lekhH4428counselorהַלְיוֹעֵ֤ץhal.yo.'EtzH3289?Stopחֲדַל־cha.dal-H2308!Whyלָ֣מָּהLa.mahH4100shouldyou be putH5221toH5221deathH5221?”Then the prophetהַנָּבִ֗יאha.na.Vi'H5030stoppedוַיֶּחְדַּ֣לvai.yech.DalH2308and saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “I knowיָדַ֗עְתִּיya.Da'.tiH3045that Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430has plannedיָעַ֤ץya.'AtzH3289to destroyלְהַשְׁחִיתֶ֔ךָle.hash.chi.Te.khaH7843you, becauseH3588you have doneעָשִׂ֣יתָ'a.Si.taH6213thisH2088and have not listenedשָׁמַ֖עְתָּsha.Ma'.taH8085to my counselלַעֲצָתִֽי׃ פla.'a.tza.TiH6098.”

Amaziah Defeated by Joash of Israel

17Then Amaziahאֲמַצְיָ֙הוּ֙'a.matz.Ya.huH558kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063tookH3289counselוַיִּוָּעַ֗ץvai.yi.va.'AtzH3289and sentוַ֠יִּשְׁלַחVai.yish.lachH7971wordto JoashH3060the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Jehoahazיְהוֹאָחָ֧זye.ho.'a.ChazH3059the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Jehuיֵה֛וּאye.Hu'H3058,the kingמֶ֥לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “Comeלְכָ֖הle.khahH1980,let’s faceנִתְרָאֶ֥ה פָנִֽים׃nit.ra.'Eh fa.NimH7200 H6440each other.”

18But JoashH3060the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֞חvai.yish.LachH7971a replyto Amaziahאֲמַצְיָ֣הוּ'a.matz.Ya.huH558kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Judahיְהוּדָה֮ye.hu.DahH3063,sayingלֵאמֹר֒le.MorH559, “The thornH2336bushH2336that was in Lebanonבַּלְּבָנ֗וֹןba.le.va.NonH3844sentשָׁ֠לַחSha.lachH7971wordto the cedarהָאֶ֜רֶזha.'E.rezH730that was in Lebanonבַּלְּבָנוֹן֙ba.le.va.nOnH3844,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, ‘Giveתְּנָֽה־te.nah-H5414your daughterבִּתְּךָ֥bi.te.KhaH1323to my sonלִבְנִ֖יliv.NiH1121in marriageלְאִשָּׁ֑הle.'i.ShahH802.’But a wildהַשָּׂדֶה֙ha.sa.DehH7704beastH2421that was in Lebanonבַּלְּבָנ֔וֹןba.le.va.NonH3844passedH5674byH5674and trampledוַתִּרְמֹ֖סva.tir.MosH7429the thornH2336bushH2336.

19You saidאָמַ֗רְתָּ'a.Mar.taH559, ‘Beholdהִנֵּ֤הhi.NehH2009, you havedefeatedהִכִּ֙יתָ֙hi.Ki.taH5221EdomH112.’ Andyour heartלִבְּךָ֖li.be.KhaH3820has liftedוּנְשָׂאֲךָ֥u.ne.sa.'a.KhaH5375you upH5375in boastingלְהַכְבִּ֑ידle.hakh.BidH3513.Nowעַתָּה֙'a.TahH6258stayשְׁבָ֣הshe.VahH3427homeבְּבֵיתֶ֔ךָbe.vei.Te.khaH1004;whyלָ֤מָּהLa.mahH4100should you provokeתִתְגָּרֶה֙tit.ga.RehH1624troubleH7463so that you, would fallוְנָ֣פַלְתָּ֔ve.Na.fal.taH5307,you and Judahוִיהוּדָ֥הvi.hu.DahH3063with you?”

20But Amaziahאֲמַצְיָ֔הוּ'a.matz.Ya.huH558would not listenשָׁמַ֣עsha.Ma'H8085,for it was from Godמֵהָֽאֱלֹהִים֙me.ha.'E.lo.HimH430,so that He might handבְּיָ֑דbe.YadH5414 H3027them overH5414to Joash,becauseH3588they had soughtדָֽרְשׁ֔וּda.re.ShuH1875the godsאֱלֹהֵ֥י'e.lo.HeiH430of EdomH112.

21So JoashH3060kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478wentH5927upH5927,and he and Amaziahוַאֲמַצְיָ֣הוּva.'a.matz.Ya.huH558kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Judahיְהוּדָ֑הye.hu.DahH3063facedוַיִּתְרָא֣וּ פָנִ֔יםvai.yit.ra.'U fa.NimH7200 H6440each other at Beth-shemeshH1053,whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834belonged to Judahלִיהוּדָֽה׃li.hu.DahH3063.

22And Judahיְהוּדָ֖הye.hu.DahH3063was defeatedוַיִּנָּ֥גֶףvai.yi.Na.gefH5062by Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and they fledוַיָּנֻ֖סוּvai.ya.Nu.suH5127,everyH376manH376to his tentלְאֹהָלָֽיו׃le.'o.ha.LavH168.
