2Then Asaאָסָ֜א'a.Sa'H609broughtH3318outH3318silverכֶּ֣סֶףKe.sefH3701and goldוְזָהָ֗בve.za.HavH2091from the treasuriesמֵאֹֽצְר֛וֹתme.'o.tze.RotH214of the houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068and the king’sהַמֶּ֑לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428houseוּבֵ֣יתu.VeitH1004,and sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֗חvai.yish.LachH7971it to Ben-hadadH1130kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Aramאֲרָ֔ם'a.RamH758,who livedהַיּוֹשֵׁ֥בhai.yo.ShevH3427in Damascusבְּדַרְמֶ֖שֶׂקbe.dar.Me.sekH1834,sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

3“A treatyבְּרִית֙be.RitH1285must be madebetweenH996you and me, as there wasbetweenH996my fatherאָבִ֖י'a.ViH1and your fatherאָבִ֑יךָ'a.Vi.khaH1.Beholdהִנֵּ֨הhi.NehH2009,I have sentשָׁלַ֤חְתִּֽיsha.Lach.tiH7971you silverכֶּ֣סֶףKe.sefH3701and goldוְזָהָ֔בve.za.HavH2091;goלֵ֞ךְlekhH1980,breakהָפֵ֣רha.FerH6565your treatyבְּרִֽיתְךָ֗be.ri.te.KhaH1285with Baashaבַּעְשָׁא֙ba'.Sha'H1201kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478so that he will withdrawוְיַעֲלֶ֖הve.ya.'a.LehH5927from me.”

4And Ben-hadadH1130listenedוַיִּשְׁמַ֨עvai.yish.Ma'H8085to Kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Asaאָסָ֗א'a.Sa'H609,and he sentוַ֠יִּשְׁלַחVai.yish.lachH7971the commandersשָׂרֵ֨יsa.ReiH8269of his armiesהַחֲיָלִ֤יםha.cha.ya.LimH2428againstH413the citiesעָרֵ֣י'a.ReiH5892of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478, and theyconqueredוַיַּכּוּ֙vai.ya.KuH5221Ijonעִיּ֣וֹןi.YonH5859,Danדָּ֔ןDanH1835,Abel-maimH66,and allכָּֽל־kal-H3605thestorageמִסְכְּנ֖וֹתmis.ke.NotH4543citiesעָרֵ֥י'a.ReiH5892of Naphtaliנַפְתָּלִֽי׃naf.ta.LiH5321.

5When Baashaבַּעְשָׁ֔אba'.Sha'H1201heardכִּשְׁמֹ֣עַkish.Mo.a'H8085about it,he stoppedוַיֶּחְדַּ֕לvai.yech.DalH2308fortifyingמִבְּנ֖וֹתmi.be.NotH1129Ramahהָרָמָ֑הha.ra.MahH7414and putH7673anH7673endH7673toH7673his workמְלַאכְתּֽוֹ׃ סme.lakh.ToH4399.

6Then Kingהַמֶּ֗לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Asaוְאָסָ֣אve.'a.Sa'H609broughtלָקַח֙la.KachH3947allכָּל־kol-H3605Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063,and they carriedוַיִּשְׂא֞וּvai.yis.'UH5375away the stonesאַבְנֵ֤י'av.NeiH68of Ramahהָֽרָמָה֙ha.ra.MahH7414and its timberעֵצֶ֔יהָ'e.Tzei.haH6086with whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834Baashaבַּעְשָׁ֑אba'.Sha'H1201had been buildingבָּנָ֖הba.NahH1129, and with it hefortifiedוַיִּ֣בֶןvai.Yi.venH1129Gebaגֶּ֖בַעGe.va'H1387and Mizpahהַמִּצְפָּֽה׃ סha.mitz.PahH4709.

7At that timeוּבָעֵ֣תu.va.'EtH6256Hananiחֲנָ֣נִיcha.Na.niH2607the seerהָרֹאֶ֔הha.ro.'EhH7203cameבָּ֚אba'H935to Asaאָסָ֖א'a.Sa'H609kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Judahיְהוּדָ֑הye.hu.DahH3063and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Because you have reliedבְּהִשָּׁ֨עֶנְךָ֜be.hi.Sha.'en.khaH8172on the kingמֶ֤לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Aramאֲרָם֙'a.RamH758and have not reliedנִשְׁעַ֙נְתָּ֙nish.'An.taH8172on the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ'e.lo.Hei.khaH430,for thatH3651reasonH3651the armyחֵ֥ילcheilH2428of the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Aramאֲרָ֖ם'a.RamH758has escapedנִמְלַ֛טnim.LatH4422from your handמִיָּדֶֽךָ׃mi.ya.De.khaH3027.

8Were notthe Ethiopiansהַכּוּשִׁ֣יםha.ku.ShimH3569and the Lubimוְהַלּוּבִ֗יםve.ha.lu.VimH3864an immenseלָרֹ֛בla.RoH7230armyלְחַ֧יִל׀le.Cha.yilH2428with veryמְאֹ֑דme.'OdH3966manyלְהַרְבֵּ֣הle.har.BehH7235chariotsלְרֶ֥כֶבle.Re.khevH7393and horsemenוּלְפָרָשִׁ֖יםu.le.fa.ra.ShimH6571? Yetbecause you reliedוּבְהִשָּֽׁעֶנְךָ֥u.ve.hi.sha.'en.KhaH8172on the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068,He handedבְּיָדֶֽךָ׃be.ya.De.khaH5414 H3027them overH5414to you.

9Forthe eyesעֵינָ֞יו'ei.NavH5869of the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068roamמְשֹׁטְט֤וֹתme.sho.te.TotH7751throughoutבְּכָל־be.kholH3605the earthהָאָ֙רֶץ֙ha.'A.retzH776,so that He may stronglyH2388supportH2388thosewhose heartלְבָבָ֥םle.va.VamH3824is completelyשָׁלֵ֛םsha.LemH8003His. You have actedH5528foolishlyנִסְכַּ֣לְתָּnis.Kal.taH5528in thisH2088.IndeedH3588,from nowמֵעַ֔תָּהme.'A.tahH6258on you will haveיֵ֥שׁyeshH3426warsמִלְחָמֽוֹת׃mil.cha.MotH4421.”

10Then Asaאָסָ֜א'a.Sa'H609was angryוַיִּכְעַ֨סvai.yikh.'AsH3707with the seerהָרֹאֶ֗הha.ro.'EhH7203and putוַֽיִּתְּנֵ֙הוּ֙vai.yi.te.Ne.huH5414him inprisonבֵּ֣ית הַמַּהְפֶּ֔כֶתbeit ha.mah.Pe.khetH1004 H4115,for he was enragedבְזַ֥עַףve.Za.'afH2197at him for thisH2088.And Asaאָסָ֛א'a.Sa'H609mistreatedוַיְרַצֵּ֥ץvay.ra.TzetzH7533someמִן־min-H4480of the peopleהָעָ֖םha.'AmH5971at the sameהַהִֽיא׃ha.Hi'H1931timeבָּעֵ֥תba.'EtH6256.

11NowH2009,the actsדִּבְרֵ֣יdiv.ReiH1697of Asaאָסָ֔א'a.Sa'H609fromthe firstהָרִאשׁוֹנִ֖יםha.ri.sho.NimH7223to the lastוְהָאַחֲרוֹנִ֑יםve.ha.'a.cha.ro.NimH314,beholdH2009,they are writtenכְּתוּבִים֙ke.tu.VimH3789in the Bookסֵ֣פֶרSe.ferH5612of the Kingsהַמְּלָכִ֔יםha.me.la.KhimH4428of Judahלִיהוּדָ֖הli.hu.DahH3063and Israelוְיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ve.Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

12In the thirty-ninthשְׁלוֹשִׁ֨ים וָתֵ֤שַׁעshe.lo.Shim va.Te.sha'H7970 H8672yearבִּשְׁנַת֩bish.NatH8141of his reignלְמַלְכוּתוֹ֙le.mal.khu.ToH4438Asaאָסָ֡א'a.Sa'H609becameH2456diseasedH2456in his feetבְּרַגְלָ֔יוbe.rag.LavH7272.His diseaseחָלְי֑וֹchal.YoH2483was severeלְמַ֖עְלָהle.Ma'.lahH4605,yet evenוְגַם־ve.gam-H1571in his diseaseבְּחָלְיוֹ֙be.chal.YoH2483hedid not seekדָרַ֣שׁda.RashH1875the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,but the physiciansבָּרֹפְאִֽים׃ba.ro.fe.'ImH7495.

13So Asaאָסָ֖א'a.Sa'H609layH7901downוַיִּשְׁכַּ֥בvai.yish.KavH7901with his fathersאֲבֹתָ֑יו'a.vo.TavH1,and diedוַיָּ֕מָתvai.Ya.motH4191in the forty-firstאַרְבָּעִ֥ים וְאַחַ֖ת'ar.ba.'Im ve.'a.ChatH705 H259yearבִּשְׁנַ֛תbish.NatH8141of his reignלְמָלְכֽוֹ׃le.ma.le.KhoH4427.

14They buriedוַיִּקְבְּרֻ֣הוּvai.yik.be.Ru.huH6912him in his own tombבְקִבְרֹתָ֗יוve.kiv.ro.TavH6913whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834he had cutH3738outH3738for himself in the cityבְּעִ֣ירbe.'IrH5892of Davidדָּוִיד֒da.VidH1732,and they laidוַיַּשְׁכִּיבֻ֗הוּvai.yash.ki.Vu.huH7901him in the restingH4904placeH4904whichאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834he had filledמִלֵּא֙mi.Le'H4390with spicesבְּשָׂמִ֣יםbe.sa.MimH1314of various kindsוּזְנִ֔יםu.ze.NimH2177blendedמְרֻקָּחִ֖יםme.ru.ka.ChimH7543by the perfumers’בְּמִרְקַ֣חַתbe.mir.Ka.chatH4842artמַעֲשֶׂ֑הma.'a.SehH4639; andthey madeוַיִּשְׂרְפוּ־vai.yis.re.fu-H8313a veryעַד־ לִמְאֹֽד׃ פ'ad- lim.'OdH5704 H3966greatגְּדוֹלָ֥הge.do.LahH1419fireשְׂרֵפָ֖הse.re.FahH8316for him.
