10Then Amaziahאֲמַצְיָ֗הוּ'a.matz.Ya.huH558dismissedוַיַּבְדִּילֵ֣םvai.yav.di.LemH914them, the troopsלְהַגְּדוּד֙le.ha.ge.DudH1416whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834cameבָּ֤אba'H935to him from Ephraimמֵֽאֶפְרַ֔יִםme.'ef.Ra.yimH669,to goלָלֶ֖כֶתla.Le.khetH1980homeלִמְקוֹמָ֑םlim.ko.MamH4725;so their angerאַפָּ֤ם'a.PamH639burnedוַיִּ֨חַרvai.Yi.charH2734against Judahבִּֽיהוּדָ֔הbi.hu.DahH3063and they returnedוַיָּשׁ֥וּבוּvai.ya.Shu.vuH7725homeלִמְקוֹמָ֖םlim.ko.MamH4725in fierceבָּחֳרִי־bo.cho.ri-H2750angerאָֽף׃ פ'AfH639.

11Now Amaziahוַאֲמַצְיָ֙הוּ֙va.'a.matz.Ya.huH558strengthenedהִתְחַזַּ֔קhit.cha.ZakH2388himself and ledH5090his peopleעַמּ֔וֹa.MoH5971forthH5090,and wentוַיֵּ֖לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980tothe Valleyגֵּ֣יאgei'H1516of Saltהַמֶּ֑לַחha.Me.lachH4417and struckH5221downוַיַּ֥ךְvai.YakhH522110,000עֲשֶׂ֥רֶת אֲלָפִֽים׃'a.Se.ret 'a.la.FimH6235 H505of the sonsבְּנֵי־be.nei-H1121of Seirשֵׂעִ֖ירse.'IrH8165.

12The sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063also capturedשָׁבוּ֙sha.VuH761710,000וַעֲשֶׂ֨רֶת אֲלָפִ֜יםva.'a.Se.ret 'a.la.FimH6235 H505aliveחַיִּ֗יםchai.YimH2416and broughtוַיְבִיא֖וּםvay.vi.'UmH935them to the topלְרֹ֣אשׁle.RoshH7218of the cliffהַסָּ֑לַעha.Sa.la'H5553and threwH7993them downH7993from the topמֵֽרֹאשׁ־me.rosh-H7218of the cliffהַסֶּ֖לַעha.Se.la'H5553,so that they were allוְכֻלָּ֥םve.khu.LamH3605dashedH1234to piecesH1234.

Amaziah Rebuked for Idolatry

14Now afterאַחֲרֵ֨י'a.cha.ReiH310Amaziahאֲמַצְיָ֙הוּ֙'a.matz.Ya.huH558cameוַיְהִ֗יvay.HiH1961from slaughteringמֵֽהַכּ֣וֹתme.ha.KotH5221the Edomitesאֲדוֹמִ֔ים'a.do.MimH130,he broughtH935the godsאֱלֹהֵי֙'e.lo.HeiH430of the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Seirשֵׂעִ֔ירse.'IrH8165,setוַיַּֽעֲמִידֵ֥םvai.ya.'a.mi.DemH5975them up as his godsלֵאלֹהִ֑יםle.lo.HimH430,bowedH7812downיִֽשְׁתַּחֲוֶ֖הyish.ta.cha.VehH7812beforeוְלִפְנֵיהֶ֥םve.lif.nei.HemH6440them and burnedH6999incenseH6999to them.

15Then the angerאַ֥ף'afH639of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068burnedוַיִּֽחַר־vai.yi.char-H2734against Amaziahבַּאֲמַצְיָ֑הוּba.'a.matz.Ya.huH558,and He sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֤חvai.yish.LachH7971him a prophetנָבִ֔יאna.Vi'H5030who saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Whyלָ֤מָּהLa.mahH4100have you soughtדָרַ֙שְׁתָּ֙da.Rash.taH1875the godsאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of the peopleהָעָ֔םha.'AmH5971whoאֲשֶׁ֛ר'a.SherH834have not deliveredהִצִּ֥ילוּhi.Tzi.luH5337their own peopleעַמָּ֖ם'a.MamH5971from your handמִיָּדֶֽךָ׃mi.ya.De.khaH3027?”

17Then Amaziahאֲמַצְיָ֙הוּ֙'a.matz.Ya.huH558kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063tookH3289counselוַיִּוָּעַ֗ץvai.yi.va.'AtzH3289and sentוַ֠יִּשְׁלַחVai.yish.lachH7971to JoashH3060the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Jehoahazיְהוֹאָחָ֧זye.ho.'a.ChazH3059the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Jehuיֵה֛וּאye.Hu'H3058,the kingמֶ֥לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “Comeלְכָ֖הle.khahH1980,let us faceנִתְרָאֶ֥ה פָנִֽים׃nit.ra.'Eh fa.NimH7200 H6440each other.”

18JoashH3060the kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֞חvai.yish.LachH7971to Amaziahאֲמַצְיָ֣הוּ'a.matz.Ya.huH558kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Judahיְהוּדָה֮ye.hu.DahH3063,sayingלֵאמֹר֒le.MorH559, “The thornH2336bushH2336whichH834was in Lebanonבַּלְּבָנ֗וֹןba.le.va.NonH3844sentשָׁ֠לַחSha.lachH7971to the cedarהָאֶ֜רֶזha.'E.rezH730whichH834was in Lebanonבַּלְּבָנוֹן֙ba.le.va.nOnH3844,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, ‘Giveתְּנָֽה־te.nah-H5414your daughterבִּתְּךָ֥bi.te.KhaH1323to my sonלִבְנִ֖יliv.NiH1121in marriageלְאִשָּׁ֑הle.'i.ShahH802.’But there passedוַֽתַּעֲבֹ֞רva.ta.'a.VorH5674by a wildהַשָּׂדֶה֙ha.sa.DehH7704beastH2421that was in Lebanonבַּלְּבָנ֔וֹןba.le.va.NonH3844and trampledוַתִּרְמֹ֖סva.tir.MosH7429the thornH2336bushH2336.

19You saidאָמַ֗רְתָּ'a.Mar.taH559, ‘Beholdהִנֵּ֤הhi.NehH2009, you havedefeatedהִכִּ֙יתָ֙hi.Ki.taH5221EdomH112.’ Andyour heartלִבְּךָ֖li.be.KhaH3820hasbecomeH5375proudH5375in boastingלְהַכְבִּ֑ידle.hakh.BidH3513.Nowעַתָּה֙'a.TahH6258stayשְׁבָ֣הshe.VahH3427at homeבְּבֵיתֶ֔ךָbe.vei.Te.khaH1004;for whyלָ֤מָּהLa.mahH4100should you provokeתִתְגָּרֶה֙tit.ga.RehH1624troubleH7463so that you, even you, would fallוְנָ֣פַלְתָּ֔ve.Na.fal.taH5307and Judahוִיהוּדָ֥הvi.hu.DahH3063with you?”

20But Amaziahאֲמַצְיָ֔הוּ'a.matz.Ya.huH558would not listenשָׁמַ֣עsha.Ma'H8085,for it was from Godמֵהָֽאֱלֹהִים֙me.ha.'E.lo.HimH430,that He might deliverתִּתָּ֣םti.TamH5414them into the handבְּיָ֑דbe.YadH3027of JoashbecauseH3588they had soughtדָֽרְשׁ֔וּda.re.ShuH1875the godsאֱלֹהֵ֥י'e.lo.HeiH430of EdomH112.

21So JoashH3060kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478wentוַיַּ֨עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927up, and he and Amaziahוַאֲמַצְיָ֣הוּva.'a.matz.Ya.huH558kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Judahיְהוּדָ֑הye.hu.DahH3063facedוַיִּתְרָא֣וּ פָנִ֔יםvai.yit.ra.'U fa.NimH7200 H6440each other at Beth-shemeshH1053,whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834belonged to Judahלִיהוּדָֽה׃li.hu.DahH3063.

22Judahיְהוּדָ֖הye.hu.DahH3063was defeatedוַיִּנָּ֥גֶףvai.yi.Na.gefH5062by Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478,and they fledוַיָּנֻ֖סוּvai.ya.Nu.suH5127eachאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376to his tentלְאֹהָלָֽיו׃le.'o.ha.LavH168.
