1Now when Solomonשְׁלֹמֹה֙she.lo.MohH8010had finishedוּכְכַלּ֤וֹתu.khe.kha.LotH3615prayingלְהִתְפַּלֵּ֔לle.hit.pa.LelH6419,fireוְהָאֵ֗שׁve.ha.'EshH784cameH3381downיָֽרְדָה֙ya.re.DahH3381from heavenמֵֽהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםme.ha.sha.Ma.yimH8064and consumedוַתֹּ֥אכַלva.To.khalH398the burntהָעֹלָ֖הha.'o.LahH5930offeringH5930and the sacrificesוְהַזְּבָחִ֑יםve.ha.ze.va.ChimH2077,and the gloryוּכְב֥וֹדu.khe.VodH3519of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068filledמָלֵ֥אma.Le'H4390the houseהַבָּֽיִת׃ha.Ba.yitH1004.

2And the priestsהַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔יםha.Ko.ha.NimH3548couldיָֽכְלוּ֙ya.khe.LuH3201not enterלָב֖וֹאla.Vo'H935the houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588the gloryכְבוֹד־khe.Vod-H3519of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068filledמָלֵ֥אma.Le'H4390the Lord’sיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004.

3Allוְכֹ֣ל׀ve.KholH3605the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478,seeingרֹאִים֙ro.'ImH7200the fireהָאֵ֔שׁha.'EshH784comeH3381downבְּרֶ֣דֶתbe.Re.detH3381and the gloryוּכְב֥וֹדu.khe.VodH3519of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068upon the houseהַבָּ֑יִתha.Ba.yitH1004,bowedH3766downוַיִּכְרְעוּ֩vai.yikh.re.'UH3766on the pavementהָרִֽצְפָה֙ha.ritz.FahH7531with their facesאַפַּ֨יִם'a.Pa.yimH639to the groundאַ֤רְצָה'Ar.tzahH776,and they worshipedH2331and gaveוְהוֹד֤וֹתve.ho.DotH3034praiseH3034to the Lordלַיהוָה֙la.Yah.wehH3068, saying, “Certainlyכִּ֣יkiH3588He is goodט֔וֹבTovH2896,certainlyכִּ֥יkiH3588His faithfulnessחַסְדּֽוֹ׃chas.DoH2617is everlastingלְעוֹלָ֖םle.'o.LamH5769.”

6The priestsוְהַכֹּהֲנִ֞יםve.ha.ko.ha.NimH3548stoodעֹמְדִ֗ים'o.me.DimH5975at their postsמִשְׁמְרוֹתָ֣םmish.me.ro.TamH4931, andthe Levitesוְהַלְוִיִּ֞םve.hal.vi.YimH3881also, with the musicalשִׁ֤ירshirH7892instrumentsבִּכְלֵי־bikh.lei-H3627for the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068,whichאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834Kingהַמֶּ֗לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428DavidH1732had madeעָשָׂ֜ה'a.SahH6213for givingלְהֹד֤וֹתle.ho.DotH3034praiseH3034to the Lordלַיהוָה֙la.Yah.wehH3068-for His faithfulnessחַסְדּ֔וֹchas.DoH2617is everlastingלְעוֹלָ֣םle.'o.LamH5769”--whenever David gaveH1984praiseH1984through theirministryבְּיָדָ֑םbe.ya.DamH3027;the priestsוְהַכֹּהֲנִים֙ve.ha.ko.ha.NimH3548on the otherH5048sideH5048blewH2690trumpetsמַחְצְרִ֣יםma.cha.tzo.tze.rimH2690and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478was standingעֹמְדִֽים׃ ס'o.me.DimH5975.

God’s Promise and Warning

11So SolomonH8010finishedוַיְכַ֧לvay.KhalH3615the houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068and the king’sהַמֶּ֑לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428palaceבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004,and successfullyH6743completedH6743everythingכָּל־kol-H3605thathe had plannedהַבָּ֜א עַל־ לֵ֣בha.Ba' 'al- levH935 H5921 H3820on doingלַעֲשׂ֧וֹתla.'a.SotH6213in the houseבְּבֵית־be.veit-H1004of the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068and in his palaceוּבְבֵית֖וֹu.ve.vei.ToH1004.

12Then the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068appearedוַיֵּרָ֧אvai.ye.Ra'H7200to Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֖הshe.lo.MohH8010at nightבַּלָּ֑יְלָהba.La.ye.lahH3915and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “I have heardשָׁמַ֙עְתִּי֙sha.Ma'.tiH8085your prayerתְּפִלָּתֶ֔ךָte.fi.la.Te.khaH8605andhave chosenוּבָחַ֜רְתִּיu.va.Char.tiH977thisהַזֶּ֛הha.ZehH2088placeבַּמָּק֥וֹםba.ma.KomH4725for Myself as a houseלְבֵ֥יתle.VeitH1004of sacrificeזָֽבַח׃Za.vachH2077.

13Ifהֵ֣ןhenH2005I shutאֶֽעֱצֹ֤ר'e.'e.TzorH6113upH6113the heavensהַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ha.sha.Ma.yimH8064so that there is noוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808rainמָטָ֔רma.TarH4306,or ifוְהֵן־ve.hen-H2005I commandאֲצַוֶּ֥ה'a.tza.VehH6680the locustחָגָ֖בcha.GavH2284to devourלֶאֱכ֣וֹלle.'e.KholH398the landהָאָ֑רֶץha.'A.retzH776,or ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518I sendאֲשַׁלַּ֥ח'a.sha.LachH7971a plagueדֶּ֖בֶרDe.verH1698among My peopleבְּעַמִּֽי׃be.'a.MiH5971,

14and My peopleעַמִּ֜י'a.MiH5971whoאֲשֶׁ֧ר'a.SherH834are calledנִֽקְרָא־nik.ra'-H7121by My nameשְׁמִ֣יshe.MiH8034humbleוְיִכָּנְע֨וּve.yi.ka.ne.'UH3665themselves, and prayוְיִֽתְפַּֽלְלוּ֙ve.yit.pa.LuH6419and seekוִֽיבַקְשׁ֣וּvi.vak.ShuH1245My faceפָנַ֔יfa.NaiH6440,and turnוְיָשֻׁ֖בוּve.ya.Shu.vuH7725from their wickedהָרָעִ֑יםha.ra.'ImH7451waysמִדַּרְכֵיהֶ֣םmi.dar.khei.HemH1870,then I will hearאֶשְׁמַ֣ע'esh.Ma'H8085from heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יִםha.sha.Ma.yimH8064,and I will forgiveוְאֶסְלַח֙ve.'es.LachH5545their sinלְחַטָּאתָ֔םle.cha.ta.TamH2403and will healוְאֶרְפָּ֖אve.'er.Pa'H7495their landאַרְצָֽם׃'ar.TzamH776.

16Fornowוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258I have chosenבָּחַ֤רְתִּיba.Char.tiH977and consecratedוְהִקְדַּ֙שְׁתִּי֙ve.hik.Dash.tiH6942thisהַזֶּ֔הha.ZehH2088houseהַבַּ֣יִתha.Ba.yitH1004so that My nameשְׁמִ֥יshe.MiH8034may be thereשָׁ֖םshamH8033foreverעַד־ עוֹלָ֑ם'ad- o.LamH5704 H5769,and My eyesעֵינַ֧י'ei.NaiH5869and My heartוְלִבִּ֛יve.li.BiH3820will be thereשָׁ֖םshamH8033alwaysכָּל־ הַיָּמִֽים׃kol- hai.ya.MimH3605 H3117.

19“But ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518you turnתְּשׁוּב֣וּןte.shu.VunH7725awayH7725and abandonוַעֲזַבְתֶּם֙va.'a.zav.TemH5800My statutesחֻקּוֹתַ֣יchu.ko.TaiH2708and My commandmentsוּמִצְוֹתַ֔יu.mitz.vo.TaiH4687whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834I have setנָתַ֖תִּיna.Ta.tiH5414beforeלִפְנֵיכֶ֑םlif.nei.KhemH6440you, and goוַהֲלַכְתֶּ֗םva.ha.lakh.TemH1980and serveוַעֲבַדְתֶּם֙va.'a.vad.TemH5647otherאֲחֵרִ֔ים'a.che.RimH312godsאֱלֹהִ֣ים'E.lo.HimH430and worshipH2331them,

20then I will uprootוּנְתַשְׁתִּ֗יםu.ne.tash.TimH5428you from My landאַדְמָתִי֙'ad.ma.TiH127whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834I have givenנָתַ֣תִּיna.Ta.tiH5414you, and thisהַזֶּה֙ha.ZehH2088houseהַבַּ֤יִתha.Ba.yitH1004whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834I have consecratedהִקְדַּ֣שְׁתִּיhik.Dash.tiH6942for My nameלִשְׁמִ֔יlish.MiH8034I will castH7993outH7993of My sightפָּנָ֑יpa.NaiH6440;and I will makeוְאֶתְּנֶ֛נּוּve.'et.te.Ne.nuH5414ita proverbלְמָשָׁ֥לle.ma.ShalH4912and an objectH8148ofH8148scornH8148among allבְּכָל־be.kholH3605peoplesהָעַמִּֽים׃ha.'a.MimH5971.

21As for thisH2088houseוְהַבַּ֤יִתve.ha.Ba.yitH1004,whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834was exaltedעֶלְי֔וֹןel.YonH5945,everyoneלְכָל־le.kholH3605who passesעֹבֵ֥ר'o.VerH5674by it will beH8074astonishedH8074and sayוְאָמַ֗רve.'a.MarH559, ‘Whyבַּמֶּ֨הba.MehH4100has the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068doneעָשָׂ֤ה'a.SahH6213theseH3602thingsH3602to thisH2088landלָאָ֥רֶץla.'A.retzH776and to thisH2088houseוְלַבַּ֥יִתve.la.Ba.yitH1004?’

22And they will sayוְאָמְר֗וּve.'a.me.RuH559, ‘Becauseאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH5921 H834they abandonedעָֽזְב֜וּ'a.ze.VuH5800the Lordיְהוָ֣ה׀Yah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵ֣י'e.lo.HeiH430of their fathersאֲבֹתֵיהֶ֗ם'a.vo.tei.HemH1,whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834broughtהוֹצִיאָם֮ho.tzi.'AmH3318them from the landמֵאֶ֣רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרַיִם֒mitz.ra.YimH4714,and they adoptedוַֽיַּחֲזִ֙יקוּ֙vai.ya.cha.Zi.kuH2388otherאֲחֵרִ֔ים'a.che.RimH312godsבֵּאלֹהִ֣יםbe.lo.HimH430,and worshipedH2331and servedוַיַּֽעַבְד֑וּםvai.ya.'av.DumH5647them; thereforeכֵּן֙kenH5921 H3651He has broughtהֵבִ֣יאhe.Vi'H935allכָּל־kol-H3605thisH2088adversityH7463on them.’”
