Solomon’s Activities and Accomplishments

1Now it cameH1961aboutH1961at the endמִקֵּ֣ץ׀mi.KetzH7093of the twentyעֶשְׂרִ֣ים'es.RimH6242yearsשָׁנָ֗הsha.NahH8141in whichאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֛הshe.lo.MohH8010had builtבָּנָ֧הba.NahH1129the houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068and his own houseבֵּיתֽוֹ׃bei.ToH1004,

2that he builtבָּנָ֥הba.NahH1129the citiesוְהֶעָרִ֗יםve.he.'a.RimH5892whichאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834Huramחוּרָם֙chu.RamH2361had givenנָתַ֤ןna.TanH5414him, and settledוַיּ֥וֹשֶׁבvai.Yo.o.shevH3427the sonsבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478thereשָׁ֖םshamH8033.

3Then Solomonשְׁלֹמֹה֙she.lo.MohH8010wentוַיֵּ֤לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980to Hamath-zobahH2578and capturedוַיֶּחֱזַ֖קvai.ye.che.ZakH2388it.

4He builtוַיִּ֥בֶןvai.Yi.venH1129Tadmorתַּדְמֹ֖רtad.MorH8412in the wildernessבַּמִּדְבָּ֑רba.mid.BarH4057and allכָּל־kol-H3605the storageהַֽמִּסְכְּנ֔וֹתha.mis.ke.NotH4543citiesעָרֵ֣י'a.ReiH5892whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834he had builtבָּנָ֖הba.NahH1129in Hamathבַּחֲמָֽת׃ba.cha.MatH2574.

5He also builtוַיִּ֜בֶןvai.Yi.venH1129upperהָֽעֶלְי֔וֹןha.'el.YonH5945Beth-horonH1032and lowerהַתַּחְתּ֑וֹןha.tach.TonH8481Beth-horonH1032, which werefortifiedמָצ֔וֹרma.TzorH4692citiesעָרֵ֣י'a.ReiH5892withwallsחוֹמ֖וֹתcho.MotH2346,gatesדְּלָתַ֥יִםde.la.Ta.yimH1817,and barsוּבְרִֽיחַ׃u.ve.Ri.achH1280;

6and Baalathבַּעֲלָ֗תba.'a.LatH1191and allכָּל־kol-H3605the storageהַֽמִּסְכְּנוֹת֙ha.mis.ke.nOtH4543citiesעָרֵ֤י'a.ReiH5892that Solomonלִשְׁלֹמֹ֔הlish.lo.MohH8010hadהָי֣וּha.YuH1961,and allכָּל־kol-H3605the citiesעָרֵ֣י'a.ReiH5892forhis chariotsהָרֶ֔כֶבha.Re.khevH7393and citiesעָרֵ֣י'a.ReiH5892forhis horsemenהַפָּרָשִׁ֑יםha.pa.ra.ShimH6571,and everythingכָּל־kol-H3605that it pleasedחֵ֣שֶׁק חָשַׁק֙Che.shek cha.ShakH2836 H2837Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֗הshe.lo.MohH8010to buildלִבְנ֤וֹתliv.NotH1129in Jerusalemבִּירֽוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙bi.ru.sha.LimH3389,Lebanonוּבַלְּבָנ֔וֹןu.va.le.va.NonH3844,and allוּבְכֹ֖לu.ve.KholH3605the landאֶ֥רֶץ'E.retzH776under his ruleמֶמְשַׁלְתּֽוֹ׃mem.shal.ToH4475.

7Allכָּל־kol-H3605of the peopleהָ֠עָםHa.'omH5971who were leftהַנּוֹתָ֨רha.no.TarH3498of the Hittitesהַחִתִּ֜יha.chi.TiH2850,the Amoritesוְהָאֱמֹרִ֤יve.ha.'e.mo.RiH567,the Perizzitesוְהַפְּרִזִּי֙ve.hap.pe.ri.ZiH6522,the Hivitesוְהַחִוִּ֣יve.ha.chi.ViH2340,and the Jebusitesוְהַיְבוּסִ֔יve.hay.vu.SiH2983,whoאֲשֶׁ֛ר'a.SherH834were not of Israelמִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֖לmi.Yis.ra.'ElH3478,

8that is,from their descendantsבְּנֵיהֶ֗םbe.nei.HemH1121whoאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834were leftנוֹתְר֤וּnot.RuH3498afterאַחֲרֵיהֶם֙'a.cha.rei.HemH310them in the landבָּאָ֔רֶץba.'A.retzH776,whomאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478had not destroyedכִלּ֖וּםkhi.LumH3615,Solomonשְׁלֹמֹה֙she.lo.MohH8010raisedוַיַּעֲלֵ֤םvai.ya.'a.LemH5927them as forcedH4522laborersH4522to thisהַזֶּֽה׃ha.ZehH2088dayהַיּ֥וֹםhai.YomH3117.

9But Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֛הshe.lo.MohH8010did not makeנָתַ֧ןna.TanH5414slavesלַעֲבָדִ֖יםla.'a.va.DimH5650from the sonsבְּנֵי֙be.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478for his workלִמְלַאכְתּ֑וֹlim.lakh.ToH4399;for they were menH376of warמִלְחָמָה֙mil.cha.MahH4421,his chiefוְשָׂרֵ֣יve.sa.ReiH8269captainsשָׁלִישָׁ֔יוsha.li.ShavH7991and commandersוְשָׂרֵ֥יve.sa.ReiH8269of his chariotsרִכְבּ֖וֹrikh.BoH7393and his horsemenוּפָרָשָֽׁיו׃ פu.fa.ra.ShavH6571.

10Theseוְאֵ֨לֶּהve.'E.lehH428were the chiefשָׂרֵ֤יsa.ReiH8269officersH5333of Kingלַמֶּ֥לֶךְla.Me.lekhH4428Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֖הshe.lo.MohH8010,250חֲמִשִּׁ֣ים וּמָאתָ֑יִםcha.mi.Shim u.ma.Ta.yimH3967 H2572who ruledהָרֹדִ֖יםha.ro.DimH7287over the peopleבָּעָֽם׃ba.'AmH5971.

11Then Solomonשְׁלֹמֹה֙she.lo.MohH8010broughtH5927Pharaoh’sפַּרְעֹ֗הpar.'OhH6547daughterבַּת־bat-H1323upH5927from the cityמֵעִ֣ירme.'IrH5892of Davidדָּוִ֔ידda.VidH1732to the houseלַבַּ֖יִתla.Ba.yitH1004whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834he had builtבָּֽנָה־ba.nah-H1129for her, for he saidאָמַ֗ר'a.MarH559, “My wifeאִשָּׁ֥ה'i.ShahH802shall not liveתֵשֵׁ֨בte.ShevH3427in the houseבְּבֵית֙be.VeitH1004of Davidדָּוִ֣ידda.VidH1732kingמֶֽלֶךְ־Me.lekh-H4428of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478,becauseH3588the placesהֵ֔מָּהHe.mahH1992whereאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834the arkאֲר֥וֹן'a.RonH727of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃ פYah.wehH3068has enteredבָּֽאָ֥הba.'AhH935are holyקֹ֣דֶשׁKo.deshH6944.”

12Thenאָ֣ז'azH227Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֛הshe.lo.MohH8010offeredהֶעֱלָ֧הhe.'e.LahH5927burntעֹל֖וֹתo.LotH5930offeringsH5930to the Lordלַיהוָ֑הla.Yah.wehH3068onthe altarמִזְבַּ֣חmiz.BachH4196of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834he had builtבָּנָ֖הba.NahH1129in frontלִפְנֵ֥יlif.NeiH6440of the porchהָאוּלָֽם׃ha.'u.LamH197;

15And they did not deviateסָרוּ֩sa.RuH5493from the commandmentמִצְוַ֨תmitz.VatH4687of the kingהַמֶּ֜לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428to the priestsהַכֹּהֲנִ֧יםha.ko.ha.NimH3548and Levitesוְהַלְוִיִּ֛םve.hal.vi.YimH3881in anyלְכָל־le.kholH3605matterדָּבָ֖רda.VarH1697or regarding the storehousesוְלָאֹצָרֽוֹת׃ve.la.'o.tza.RotH214.

16So allכָּל־kol-H3605the workמְלֶ֣אכֶתme.Le.khetH4399of Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֔הshe.lo.MohH8010was carriedH3559outH3559from the dayהַיּ֛וֹםhai.YomH3117of the foundationמוּסַ֥דmu.SadH4143of the houseבֵּית־beit-H1004of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068,untilH5704it was finishedכְּלֹת֑וֹke.lo.ToH3615. Sothe houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃ סYah.wehH3068was completedשָׁלֵ֖םsha.LemH8003.
