5So Davidדָּוִ֜דda.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Jonathanיְהוֹנָתָ֗ןye.ho.na.TanH3083, “Beholdהִֽנֵּה־hi.neh-H2009,tomorrowמָחָ֔רma.CharH4279isthe newחֹ֙דֶשׁ֙cho.deshH2320moonH2320,and I am obligatedH3427to sitH3427downH3427to eatלֶאֱכ֑וֹלle.'e.KholH398with the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428.But letH7971me goוְשִׁלַּחְתַּ֙נִי֙ve.shi.lach.Ta.niH7971so that I may hideוְנִסְתַּרְתִּ֣יve.nis.tar.TiH5641myself in the fieldבַשָּׂדֶ֔הva.sa.DehH7704untilעַ֖ד'adH5704the thirdהַשְּׁלִשִֽׁית׃ha.she.li.ShitH7992eveningהָעֶ֥רֶבha.'E.revH6153.

6Ifאִם־'im-H518your fatherאָבִ֑יךָ'a.Vi.khaH1missesH6485me atH6485allH6485,then sayוְאָמַרְתָּ֗ve.'a.mar.TaH559, ‘Davidדָוִד֙da.VidH1732earnestlyנִשְׁאֹל֩nish.'OlH7592requestedנִשְׁאַ֨לnish.'AlH7592leaveof me to runלָרוּץ֙la.RutzH7323toBethlehemH1035,his cityעִיר֔וֹi.RoH5892,becauseכִּ֣יkiH3588it isthe yearlyהַיָּמִ֛יםhai.ya.MimH3117sacrificeזֶ֧בַחZe.vachH2077thereשָׁ֖םshamH8033for the wholeלְכָל־le.kholH3605familyהַמִּשְׁפָּחָֽה׃ha.mish.pa.ChahH4940.’

7Ifאִם־'im-H518hesaysיֹאמַ֛רyo.MarH559, ‘That isgoodט֖וֹבTovH2896,’your servantלְעַבְדֶּ֑ךָle.'av.De.khaH5650will besafeשָׁל֣וֹםsha.LomH7965;but ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518he isH2734veryH2734angryH2734,beH3045awareH3045that he has decidedכָלְתָ֥הkhal.TahH3615on evilH7463.

8So dealוְעָשִׂ֤יתָve.'a.Si.taH6213kindlyחֶ֙סֶד֙che.sedH2617with your servantעַבְדֶּ֔ךָ'av.De.khaH5650, foryou have broughtהֵבֵ֥אתָhe.Ve.taH935your servantעַבְדְּךָ֖'av.de.KhaH5650into a covenantבִּבְרִ֣יתbiv.RitH1285of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068with you. Butifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518I am guiltyH5771ofH5771wrongdoingH5771,killהֲמִיתֵ֣נִיha.mi.Te.niH4191me yourselfאַ֔תָּה'A.tahH859;for whyלָמָּה־la.mah-H4100thenזֶּ֥הzehH2088should you bringתְבִיאֵֽנִי׃ פte.vi.'E.niH935me to your fatherאָבִ֖יךָ'a.Vi.khaH1?”

9Jonathanיְהוֹנָתָ֖ןye.ho.na.TanH3083saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Farחָלִ֣ילָהcha.Li.lahH2486be it from you! For ifאִם־'im-H518I inH3045factH3045learnH3045that my fatherאָבִי֙'a.ViH1has decidedכָלְתָ֨הkhal.TahH3615to inflictלָב֣וֹאla.Vo'H935harmH7463on you, would I not informאַגִּ֥יד'a.GidH5046you?”

10Then Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Jonathanיְה֣וֹנָתָ֔ןye.Ho.na.TanH3083, “Whoמִ֖יmiH4310will informיַגִּ֣ידya.GidH5046meifא֛וֹ מַה־'o mah-H176 H4100your fatherאָבִ֖יךָ'a.Vi.khaH1answersיַּעַנְךָ֥ya.'an.KhaH6030you harshlyקָשָֽׁה׃ סka.ShahH7186?”

11Jonathanיְהֽוֹנָתָן֙ye.ho.na.TanH3083saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732, “Comeלְכָ֖הle.KhahH1980,and let’s goH3318outH3318to the fieldהַשָּׂדֶ֑הha.sa.DehH7704.”So bothשְׁנֵיהֶ֖םshe.nei.HemH8147of them wentH3318outH3318to the fieldהַשָּׂדֶֽה׃ סha.sa.DehH7704.

12Then Jonathanיְהוֹנָתָ֜ןye.ho.na.TanH3083saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to DavidH1732, “The Lordיְהוָ֞הYah.wehH3068,the Godאֱלֹהֵ֤י'e.lo.HeiH430of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478, is my witness!Whenכִּֽי־ki-H3588I have soundedH2713outH2713my fatherאָבִ֗י'a.ViH1about this timeכָּעֵ֤ת׀ka.'EtH6256tomorrowמָחָר֙ma.CharH4279orthe thirdהַשְּׁלִשִׁ֔יתha.she.li.ShitH7992day, beholdוְהִנֵּה־ve.hi.neh-H2009, if he has agoodH2895feelingtowardH413you, shall I not thenאָז֙'azH227sendאֶשְׁלַ֣ח'esh.LachH7971word to you andinformוְגָלִ֖יתִי אָזְנֶֽךָ׃ve.ga.Li.ti 'a.ze.Ne.khaH1540 H241you?

13Ifכִּֽי־ki-H3588it pleasesיֵיטִ֨בyei.TivH3190my fatherאָבִ֤י'a.ViH1to doyou harmH7463,may the Lordיְהוָ֨הYah.wehH3068doיַעֲשֶׂה֩ya.'a.SehH6213soכֹּֽה־koh-H3541tomeלִֽיהוֹנָתָ֜ןli.ho.na.TanH3083and moreיֹסִ֗יףyo.SifH3254soוְכֹ֣הve.KhohH3541, if I fail toinformוְגָלִ֙יתִי֙ אָזְנֶ֔ךָve.ga.Li.ti 'a.ze.Ne.khaH1540 H241you and sendוְשִׁלַּחְתִּ֖יךָve.shi.lach.Ti.khaH7971you awayH7971,so that you may goוְהָלַכְתָּ֣ve.ha.lakh.TaH1980in safetyלְשָׁל֑וֹםle.sha.LomH7965. Andmay the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068be with you as He has beenH1961with my fatherאָבִֽי׃'a.ViH1.

14And ifאִם־'im-H518I am stillעוֹדֶ֣נִּיo.De.niH5750aliveחָ֑יChaiH2416,will you not showתַעֲשֶׂ֧הta.'a.SehH6213me the faithfulnessחֶ֥סֶדChe.sedH2617of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068,so that I do not dieאָמֽוּת׃'a.MutH4191?

15Andyou shall neverעַד־ עוֹלָ֑ם'ad- o.LamH3808 H5704 H5769cutH3772offH3772your loyaltyחַסְדְּךָ֛chas.de.KhaH2617to my houseבֵּיתִ֖יbei.TiH1004,not even when the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068cutsH3772offH3772everyH376oneH376of the enemiesH340of Davidדָוִ֔דda.VidH1732from the faceפְּנֵ֥יpe.NeiH6440of the earthהָאֲדָמָֽה׃ha.'a.da.MahH127.”

16So Jonathanיְהוֹנָתָ֖ןye.ho.na.TanH3083madeוַיִּכְרֹ֥תvai.yikh.RotH3772a covenantwith the houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of Davidדָּוִ֑דda.VidH1732, saying, “May the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068demandוּבִקֵּ֣שׁu.vi.KeshH1245itfrom the handsמִיַּ֖דmi.YadH3027of David’sדָוִֽד׃da.VidH1732enemiesH340.”

17And Jonathanיְהֽוֹנָתָן֙ye.ho.na.TanH3083made Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732vowלְהַשְׁבִּ֣יעַle.hash.Bi.a'H7650againוַיּ֤וֹסֶףvai.Yo.sefH3254because of his loveH160for him, becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588he lovedH157him as he lovedH157his own lifeנַפְשׁ֖וֹnaf.ShoH5315.

18Then Jonathanיְהוֹנָתָ֖ןye.ho.na.TanH3083saidוַיֹּֽאמֶר־vai.yo.mer-H559to him, “Tomorrowמָחָ֣רma.CharH4279is the newחֹ֑דֶשׁCho.deshH2320moonH2320,and you will be missedH6485sinceכִּ֥יkiH3588your seatמוֹשָׁבֶֽךָ׃mo.sha.Ve.khaH4186will beH6485emptyH6485.

19When you have stayedH8027for threeוְשִׁלַּשְׁתָּ֙ve.shi.lash.TaH8027daysH8027,you shall goH3381downH3381quicklyמְאֹ֔דme.'OdH3966and comeוּבָאתָ֙u.va.TaH935to the placeהַמָּק֔וֹםha.ma.KomH4725whereאֲשֶׁר־ שָּׁ֖ם'a.Sher- shamH834 H8033you hidנִסְתַּ֥רְתָּnis.Tar.taH5641yourself on that eventfulהַֽמַּעֲשֶׂ֑הha.ma.'a.SehH4639dayבְּי֣וֹםbe.YomH3117,and you shall remainוְיָ֣שַׁבְתָּ֔ve.Ya.shav.taH3427besideאֵ֖צֶל'E.tzelH681the stoneהָאֶ֥בֶןha.'E.venH68Ezelהָאָֽזֶל׃ha.'A.zelH237.

20And I will shootאוֹרֶ֑ה'o.RehH3384threeשְׁלֹ֥שֶׁתshe.Lo.shetH7969arrowsהַחִצִּ֖יםha.chi.TzimH2671to the sideצִדָּ֣הtzi.DahH6654,as though I shotלְשַֽׁלַּֽח־le.sha.lach-H7971at a targetלְמַטָּרָֽה׃le.ma.ta.RahH4307.

21Then beholdוְהִנֵּה֙ve.hi.NehH2009,I will sendאֶשְׁלַ֣ח'esh.LachH7971the boyהַנַּ֔עַרha.Na.'arH5288, telling him, ‘Goלֵ֖ךְlekhH1980,findמְצָ֣אme.Tza'H4672the arrowsהַחִצִּ֑יםha.chi.TzimH2671.’Ifאִם־'im-H518I specificallyאָמֹר֩'a.MorH559sayאֹמַ֨ר'o.MarH559to the boyלַנַּ֜עַרla.Na.'arH5288, ‘Beholdהִנֵּ֥הhi.NehH2009,the arrowsהַחִצִּ֣ים׀ha.chi.TzimH2671are on thisH2008sideH2008of you, getקָחֶ֧נּוּ׀ka.Che.nuH3947them,’ then comeוָבֹ֛אָהva.Vo.'ahH935,becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588it is safeשָׁל֥וֹםsha.LomH7965for you and there is nothingוְאֵ֥ין דָּבָ֖רve.'Ein da.VarH369 H1697to harm you,as the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068livesחַי־chai-H2416.

22But ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518Isayאֹמַר֙'o.MarH559to the youthלָעֶ֔לֶםla.'E.lemH5958, ‘Beholdהִנֵּ֥הhi.NehH2009,the arrowsהַחִצִּ֖יםha.chi.TzimH2671are beyondמִמְּךָ֣ וָהָ֑לְאָהmi.me.Kha va.Hal.'ahH4480 H1973you,’ goלֵ֕ךְlekhH1980,becauseכִּ֥יkiH3588the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068has sentH7971you awayשִֽׁלַּחֲךָ֖shi.la.cha.KhaH7971.

23As for theagreementוְהַ֨דָּבָ֔רve.Ha.da.VarH1697of whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834you and I have spokenדִּבַּ֖רְנוּdi.Bar.nuH1696,beholdהִנֵּ֧הhi.NehH2009,the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068is betweenH996you and me foreverעַד־ עוֹלָֽם׃ ס'ad- o.LamH5704 H5769.”

24So Davidדָּוִ֖דda.VidH1732hidוַיִּסָּתֵ֥רvai.yi.sa.TerH5641himself in the fieldבַּשָּׂדֶ֑הba.sa.DehH7704;and when the newהַחֹ֔דֶשׁha.Cho.deshH2320moonH2320cameוַיְהִ֣יvay.HiH1961,the kingהַמֶּ֛לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428satH3427downוַיֵּ֧שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427to eatלֶאֱכֽוֹל׃le.'e.KholH398foodהַלֶּ֖חֶםha.Le.chemH3899.
