Jeremiah 24

Baskets of Figs and the Returnees

1AfterH310 1NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894 had carriedH1540 awayH1540 captiveH1540 JeconiahH3204 the sonH1121 of JehoiakimH3079, kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and the officialsH8269 of JudahH3063 with the craftsmenH2796 and smithsH4525 from JerusalemH3389 and had broughtH935 them to BabylonH894, the LordH3068 showedH7200 me: beholdH2009, twoH8147 2basketsH1731 of figsH8384 setH3259 beforeH6440 the templeH1964 of the LordH3068! 2OneH259 basketH1731 had veryH3966 goodH2896 figsH8384, like 3first-ripeH1063 figsH8384, and the otherH259 basketH1731 had 4veryH3966 badH7451 figsH8384 whichH834 could not be eatenH398 dueH4480 to rottennessH7455. 3Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to me, “5WhatH4100 do you seeH7200, JeremiahH3414?” And I saidH559, “FigsH8384, the goodH2896 figsH8384, veryH3966 goodH2896; and the badH7451 figs, veryH3966 badH7451, whichH834 cannotH3808 be eatenH398 dueH4480 to rottennessH7455.”

4Then the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 cameH1961 to me, sayingH559, 5“ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068 GodH430 of IsraelH3478, ‘Like theseH428 goodH2896 figsH8384, soH3651 I will regardH5234 6as goodH2899 the captivesH1546 of JudahH3063, whomH834 I have sentH7971 out of thisH2088 placeH4725 into the landH776 of the ChaldeansH3778. 6For I will setH7760 My eyesH5869 on them for goodH2899, and I will 7bringH7725 them againH7725 to thisH2088 landH776; and I will 8buildH1129 them up and not overthrowH2040 them, and I will 9plantH5193 them and not pluckH5428 them up. 7I will giveH5414 them a 10heartH3820 to knowH3045 Me, for I am the LordH3068; and they will be 11My peopleH5971, and I will be their GodH430, for they will 12returnH7725 to Me with their wholeH3605 heartH3820.

8‘But like the 13badH7451 figsH8384 whichH834 cannotH3808 be eatenH398 dueH4480 to rottennessH7455--indeedH3588, thusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068--soH3651 I will 14abandonH5414 15ZedekiahH6667 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 and his officialsH8269, and the 16remnantH7611 of JerusalemH3389 who remainH7604 in thisH2088 landH776 and the ones who dwellH3427 in the landH776 of 17EgyptH4714. 9I will 18makeH5414 them a terrorH2113 and an evilH7463 for allH3605 the kingdomsH4467 of the earthH776, as a 19reproachH2781 and a proverbH4912, a tauntH8148 and a 20curseH7045 in allH3605 placesH4725 whereH834H8033 I will scatterH5080 them. 10I will sendH7971 the 21swordH2719, the famineH7458 and the pestilenceH1698 upon them untilH5704 they are destroyedH8552 from the landH127 whichH834 I gaveH5414 to them and their forefathersH1.’”
