Conquest of Egypt Predicted

1The wordH1697 that cameH1961 to JeremiahH3414 for allH3605 the JewsH3064 livingH3427 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, those who were livingH3427 in 1MigdolH4024, 2TahpanhesH8471, 3MemphisH5297, and the landH776 of 4PathrosH6624, sayingH559, 2“ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, ‘You yourselvesH864 have seenH7200 allH3605 the calamityH7463 that I have broughtH935 on JerusalemH3389 and allH3605 the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063; and beholdH2009, thisH2088 dayH3117 they are in 5ruinsH2723 and noH369 oneH369 livesH3427 in them, 36becauseH4480H6440 of their wickednessH7463 whichH834 they committedH6213 so as to 7provokeH3707 Me to angerH3707 by continuingH1980 to 8burnH6999 9sacrificesH6999 and to 10serveH5647 otherH312 godsH430 whomH834 they had not knownH3045, neither they, you, norH3808 your fathersH1. 4Yet I 11sentH7971 you allH3605 My servantsH5650 the prophetsH5030, 12againH7925 and againH7971, sayingH559, “OhH4994, do not doH6213 thisH2088 13abominableH8441 thingH1697 whichH834 I hateH8130.” 5But 14they did not listenH8085 or inclineH5186 their earsH241 to turnH7725 from their wickednessH7463, so as not to burnH6999 15sacrificesH6999 to otherH312 godsH430. 6Therefore My 16wrathH2534 and My angerH639 were pouredH5413 out and burnedH1197 in the 17citiesH5892 of JudahH3063 and in the streetsH2351 of JerusalemH3389, so they haveH1961 becomeH1961 a ruinH2723 and a 18desolationH8077 as it is thisH2088 dayH3117. 7NowH6258 then thusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068 GodH430 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, “WhyH4100 are you 19doingH6213 greatH1419 harmH7463 to yourselvesH5315, so as to 20cutH3772 offH3772 from you manH376 and womanH802, childH5768 and infantH3243, from amongH8432 JudahH3063, leavingH3498 yourselves withoutH1115 remnantH7611, 821provokingH3707 Me to angerH3707 with the worksH4639 of your handsH3027, 22burningH6999 23sacrificesH6999 to otherH312 godsH430 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, whereH834H8033 you are enteringH935 to resideH1481, soH4616 that you might be cutH3772 offH3772 and becomeH1961 a 24curseH7045 and a reproachH2781 among allH3605 the nationsH1471 of the earthH776? 9Have you forgottenH7911 the 25wickednessH7463 of your fathersH1, the wickednessH7463 of the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063, and the wickednessH7463 of their wivesH802, your own wickednessH7463, and the wickednessH7463 of your wivesH802, whichH834 they committedH6213 in the landH776 of JudahH3063 and in the streetsH2351 of JerusalemH3389? 10But they 26have not becomeH1792 27contriteH1792 even to thisH2088 dayH3117, norH3808 have they fearedH3372 norH3808 28walkedH1980 in My lawH8451 or My statutesH2708, whichH834 I have setH5414 beforeH6440 you and beforeH6440 your fathersH1.”’

11“ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, ‘BeholdH2009, I am going to 29setH7760 My faceH6440 against you for 30woeH7463, even to cutH3772 offH3772 allH3605 JudahH3063. 12And I will 31takeH3947 away the remnantH7611 of JudahH3063 whoH834 have setH7760 their 32mindH6440 on enteringH935 the landH776 of EgyptH4714 to resideH1481 thereH8033, and they will allH3605 3334meetH8552 their endH8552 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714; they will fallH5307 by the swordH2719 and meetH8552 their endH8552 by famineH7458. BothH4480 smallH6996 and greatH1419 will dieH4191 by the swordH2719 and famineH7458; and they will becomeH1961 a 35curseH7045, an objectH8047 of horrorH8047, an imprecationH7045 and a reproachH2781. 13And I will 36punishH6485 those who liveH3427 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, as I have punishedH6485 JerusalemH3389, with the swordH2719, with famineH7458 and with pestilenceH1698. 14So there will be 37noH3808 refugeesH6412 or survivorsH8300 for the remnantH7611 of JudahH3063 who have enteredH935 the landH776 of EgyptH4714 to resideH1481 thereH8033 and then to returnH7725 to the landH776 of JudahH3063, to whichH834 they are 3839longingH5375H5315 to returnH7725 and liveH3427; for noneH3808 will 40returnH7725 exceptH3588H518 a few refugeesH6412.’”

Calamity for the Jews

20Then JeremiahH3414 saidH559 to allH3605 the peopleH5971, to the menH1397 and womenH802--even to allH3605 the peopleH5971 who were givingH6030 him such an answerH1697--sayingH559, 21“As for the 6364smokingH7002 sacrificesH7002 that you burnedH6999 in the citiesH5892 of JudahH3063 and in the 65streetsH2351 of JerusalemH3389, you and your forefathersH1, your kingsH4428 and your princesH8269, and the peopleH5971 of the landH776, did not the LordH3068 66rememberH2142 them and did not all this comeH5927 into His 67mindH3820? 22So the LordH3068 was 68noH3808 longerH5750 ableH3201 to endureH5375 it, 69becauseH4480H6440 of the evilH7455 of your deedsH4611, becauseH4480H6440 of the abominationsH8441 whichH834 you have committedH6213; thus your landH776 has becomeH1961 a 70ruinH2723, an objectH8047 of horrorH8047 and a curseH7045, withoutH369 an inhabitantH3427, as it is thisH2088 dayH3117. 23BecauseH4480H6440 you have burnedH6999 71sacrificesH6999 and have sinnedH2398 against the LordH3068 and 72not obeyedH8085 the voiceH6963 of the LordH3068 or 73walkedH1980 in His lawH8451, His statutesH2708 or His testimoniesH5715, thereforeH5921H3651 thisH2088 74calamityH7463 has befallenH7122 you, as it has thisH2088 dayH3117.”

24Then JeremiahH3414 saidH559 to allH3605 the peopleH5971, including allH3605 the womenH802, “75HearH8085 the wordH1697 of the LordH3068, allH3605 JudahH3063 whoH834 are 76in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, 25thusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, as followsH559: ‘As for you and your wivesH802, you have spokenH1696 with your mouthsH6310 and fulfilledH4390 it with your handsH3027, sayingH559, “We will 77certainlyH6213 performH6213 our vowsH5088 that we have vowedH5087, to burnH6999 78sacrificesH6999 to the queenH4446 of heavenH8064 and pourH5258 out drinkH5262 offeringsH5262 to her.” 7980GoH6965 aheadH6965 and confirmH6965 your vowsH5088, and certainlyH6213 performH6213 your vowsH5088!’ 2681NeverthelessH3651 hearH8085 the wordH1697 of the LordH3068, allH3605 JudahH3063 who are livingH3427 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714, ‘BeholdH2009, I have 82swornH7650 by My greatH1419 nameH8034,’ saysH559 the LordH3068, ‘83neverH518 shall My nameH8034 be invokedH2142 againH5750 by the mouthH6310 of anyH3605 manH376 of JudahH3063 in allH3605 the landH776 of EgyptH4714, sayingH559, “84As the LordH136 85GodH3068 livesH2416.” 27BeholdH2009, I am watchingH8245 overH5921 them 86for harmH7463 and not for goodH2899, and 87allH3605 the menH376 of JudahH3063 whoH834 are in the landH776 of EgyptH4714 will 88meetH8552 their endH8552 by the swordH2719 and by famineH7458 untilH5704 they 89are completelyH3615 goneH3615. 2890Those whoH6412 escapeH6412 the swordH2719 will returnH7725 out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714 to the landH776 of JudahH3063 9192fewH4962 in numberH4557. Then allH3605 the remnantH7611 of JudahH3063 who have goneH935 to the landH776 of EgyptH4714 to resideH1481 thereH8033 will knowH3045 93whoseH4310 wordH1697 will standH6965, MineH4480 or theirsH4480H1992. 29ThisH2088 will be the 94signH226 to you,’ declaresH5002 the LordH3068, ‘that I am going to punishH6485 you in thisH2088 placeH4725, soH4616 that you may knowH3045 that 95My wordsH1697 will surelyH6965 standH6965 againstH5921 you for harmH7463.’ 30ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068, ‘BeholdH2009, I am going to giveH5414 over 96PharaohH6548 HophraH6548 kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 to the handH3027 of his enemiesH340, to the handH3027 of those who seekH1245 his lifeH5315, justH3512 as I gaveH5414 over 97ZedekiahH6667 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 to the handH3027 of NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894, who was his enemyH340 and was seekingH1245 his lifeH5315.’”
