It is a beautiful morning. We have no seasickness as yet. Last evening we enjoyed a beautiful sunset. The broad ocean was all that we could see surrounding us, and the sun went out of sight in the broad waters. We went into the dining room to attend services. Under the Episcopalian services, prayers were read, and chapters in the Old and New Testaments that were very appropriate for the occasion. The hymns sung were excellent in sentiment. The chapter read first was in Jeremiah. The second was in the New Testament in regard to the shipwreck of Paul. I wrote eight pages and prepared a reported article for the press. We were on deck most of the time.

The Lord has words for His people. He has a message to be borne to those who do evil in Jerusalem. The twenty-fourth chapter of Jeremiah is a representation of those who are determined to do unrighteousness, whose heart is estranged from God.

Jeremiah 24:7

Letters and Manuscripts — Volume 12 (1897)

Ms 147, 1897

The Lord says to those living in 1897, as He said to those of Israel who had chosen to serve Him, “I will give them a heart to know me that I am the Lord.” [Jeremiah 24:7.] The Lord has given us Jesus our Saviour to reveal the character in humanity that He wishes each of us to reveal. The Lord’s purpose concerning His people is, I have given them minds <to understand and know Me.> I will increase My grace unto them. Will those who have backslidden return. Return unto the Lord, return. Let there be no delay. “In that day shall it be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not; and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack. The Lord God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save; he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love; he will joy over thee with singing.” [Zephaniah 3:16, 17.]
