Jeremiah 24

Baskets of Figs and the Returnees

1AfterH310 1NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894 had takenH1540 intoH1540 exileH1540 JeconiahH3204 the sonH1121 of JehoiakimH3079, kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and the officialsH8269 of JudahH3063 with the craftsmenH2796 and metalworkersH4525 from JerusalemH3389 and had broughtH935 them to BabylonH894, the LordH3068 showedH7200 me: beholdH2009, twoH8147 2basketsH1731 of figsH8384 placedH5975 beforeH6440 the templeH1964 of the LordH3068. 2OneH259 basketH1731 had veryH3966 goodH2896 figsH8384, like 3first-ripeH1063 figsH8384, and the otherH259 basketH1731 had 4veryH3966 badH7451 figsH8384 whichH834 could not be eatenH398 dueH4480 to rottennessH7455. 3Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to me, “5WhatH4100 do you seeH7200, JeremiahH3414?” And I saidH559, “FigsH8384: the goodH2896 figsH8384 are veryH3966 goodH2896, and the badH7451 ones, veryH3966 badH7451, whichH834 cannotH3808 be eatenH398 dueH4480 to rottennessH7455.”

4Then the wordH1697 of the LordH3068 cameH1961 to me, sayingH559, 5“ThisH3541 isH3541 whatH3541 the LordH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478 saysH559: ‘Like theseH428 goodH2896 figsH8384, soH3651 I will regardH5234 6as goodH2899 the captivesH1546 of JudahH3063, whomH834 I have sentH7971 out of thisH2088 placeH4725 into the landH776 of the ChaldeansH3778. 6For I will setH7760 My eyesH5869 on them for goodH2899, and I will 7bringH7725 them backH7725 to thisH2088 landH776; and I will 8buildH1129 them upH1129 and not overthrowH2040 them, and I will 9plantH5193 them and not uprootH5428 them. 7I will also giveH5414 them a 10heartH3820 to knowH3045 Me, for I am the LordH3068; and they will be 11My peopleH5971, and I will be their GodH430, for they will 12returnH7725 to Me wholeheartedlyH8003H3824.

8‘But like the 13badH7451 figsH8384 whichH834 cannotH3808 be eatenH398 dueH4480 to rottennessH7455,’ indeedH3588, thisH3541 isH3541 whatH3541 the LordH3068 saysH559, ‘soH3651 will I giveH5414 upH5414 14ZedekiahH6667 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 and his officialsH8269, and the 15remnantH7611 of JerusalemH3389 who remainH7604 in thisH2088 landH776, and the ones who liveH3427 in the landH776 of 16EgyptH4714. 9I will 17makeH5414 them an objectH2113 ofH2113 terrorH2113 and an evilH7463 for allH3605 the kingdomsH4467 of the earthH776, as a 18disgraceH2781 and a proverbH4912, a tauntH8148 and a 19curseH7045 in allH3605 the placesH4725 whereH834H8033 I will scatterH5080 them. 10And I will sendH7971 the 20swordH2719, the famineH7458, and the plagueH1698 upon them untilH5704 they are eliminatedH8552 from the landH127 whichH834 I gaveH5414 to them and their forefathersH1.’”
