Jeremiah 28
Hananiah’s False Prophecy
1Now in the sameH1931 yearH8141, 1in the beginningH7225 of the reignH4467 of 2ZedekiahH6667 kingH4428 of JudahH3063, in the fourthH7243 yearH8141, in the fifthH2549 monthH2320, 3HananiahH2608 the sonH1121 of AzzurH5809, the prophetH5030, whoH834 was from 4GibeonH1391, spokeH559 to me in the houseH1004 of the LordH3068 in the presenceH5869 of the priestsH3548 and allH3605 the peopleH5971, sayingH559, 2“5ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, ‘I have brokenH7665 the yokeH5923 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894. 3WithinH5750 twoH8145 yearsH8141 I am going to bringH7725 backH7725 to thisH2088 placeH4725 6allH3605 the vesselsH3627 of the Lord’sH3068 houseH1004, whichH834 NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894 tookH3947 awayH3947 from thisH2088 placeH4725 and carriedH935 to BabylonH894. 4I am 7also going to bringH7725 backH7725 to thisH2088 placeH4725 8JeconiahH3204 the sonH1121 of JehoiakimH3079, kingH4428 of JudahH3063, and allH3605 the 9exilesH1546 of JudahH3063 who wentH935 to BabylonH894,’ declaresH5002 the LordH3068, ‘for I will breakH7665 the 10yokeH5923 of the kingH4428 of BabylonH894.’”
5Then the prophetH5030 JeremiahH3414 spokeH559 to the prophetH5030 HananiahH2608 in the presenceH5869 of the priestsH3548 and in the presenceH5869 of allH3605 the peopleH5971 who were standingH5975 in the 11houseH1004 of the LordH3068, 6and the prophetH5030 JeremiahH3414 saidH559, “12AmenH543! May the LordH3068 doH6213 soH3651; may the LordH3068 13confirmH6965 your wordsH1697 whichH834 you have prophesiedH5012 to bringH7725 backH7725 the vesselsH3627 of the Lord’sH3068 houseH1004 and allH3605 the exilesH1473, from BabylonH894 to thisH2088 placeH4725. 7YetH389 14hearH8085 nowH4994 thisH2088 wordH1697 whichH834 I am about to speakH1696 in your hearingH241 and in the hearingH241 of allH3605 the peopleH5971! 8The prophetsH5030 whoH834 were beforeH6440 me and beforeH6440 you from ancientH5769 timesH5769 15prophesiedH5012 againstH413 manyH7227 landsH776 and againstH5921 greatH1419 kingdomsH4467, of warH4421 and of calamityH7463 and of pestilenceH1698. 9The prophetH5030 whoH834 prophesiesH5012 of peaceH7965, 16when the wordH1697 of the prophetH5030 comesH935 to passH935, then that prophetH5030 will be knownH3045 as one whomH834 the LordH3068 has trulyH571 sentH7971.”
10Then HananiahH2608 the prophetH5030 tookH3947 the 17yokeH4133 from the neckH6677 of JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030 and brokeH7665 it. 11HananiahH2608 spokeH559 in the presenceH5869 of allH3605 the peopleH5971, sayingH559, “18ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068, ‘EvenH3602 soH3602 will I breakH7665 withinH5750 twoH8145 fullH3117 yearsH8141 the yokeH5923 of NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894 from the neckH6677 of allH3605 the nationsH1471.’” Then the prophetH5030 JeremiahH3414 wentH1980 his wayH1870.
12The 19wordH1697 of the LordH3068 cameH1961 to JeremiahH3414 afterH310 HananiahH2608 the prophetH5030 had brokenH7665 the yokeH4133 from offH5921 the neckH6677 of the prophetH5030 JeremiahH3414, sayingH559, 13“GoH1980 and speakH559 to HananiahH2608, sayingH559, ‘ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068, “You have brokenH7665 the yokesH4133 of woodH6086, but you have madeH6213 insteadH8478 of them 20yokesH4133 of ironH1270.” 14For thusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068 of hostsH6635, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, “I have putH5414 a 21yokeH5923 of ironH1270 on the neckH6677 of allH3605 theseH428 nationsH1471, that they may serveH5647 NebuchadnezzarH5019 kingH4428 of BabylonH894; and they will 22serveH5647 him. And 23I have alsoH1571 givenH5414 him the beastsH2421 of the fieldH7704.”’” 15Then JeremiahH3414 the prophetH5030 saidH559 to HananiahH2608 the prophetH5030, “ListenH8085 nowH4994, HananiahH2608, the LordH3068 has not sentH7971 you, and 24you have made thisH2088 peopleH5971 trustH982 in a lieH8267. 16ThereforeH3651 thusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068, ‘25BeholdH2009, I am about to 26removeH7971 you from the faceH6440 of the earthH127. This yearH8141 you are going to 27dieH4191, becauseH3588 you have 2829counseledH1696 rebellionH5627 againstH413 the LordH3068.’”
17So HananiahH2608 the prophetH5030 diedH4191 in the sameH1931 yearH8141 in the seventhH7637 monthH2320.
