Jeremiah 17
The Deceitful Heart
1The 1sinH2403 of JudahH3063 is writtenH3789 downH3789 with an 2ironH1270 stylusH5842; With a diamondH8068 pointH6856 it is 3engravedH2790 upon the tabletH3871 of their heartH3820 And on the hornsH7161 of 4their altarsH4196,2As they rememberH2142 their 5childrenH1121, So they remember their altarsH4196 and their 67AsherimH842 By 8greenH7488 treesH6086 on the highH1364 hillsH1389.3O 9mountainH2022 of Mine in the countrysideH7704, I will 10giveH5414 over your wealthH2428 and allH3605 your treasuresH214 for bootyH957, Your highH1116 placesH1116 for sinH2403 throughoutH3605 your bordersH1366.4And you will, even of yourself, 11letH8058 goH8058 of your inheritanceH5159 That I gaveH5414 you; And I will make you serveH5647 your 12enemiesH340 In the 13landH776 whichH834 you do not knowH3045; For you have 14kindledH6919 a fireH784 in My angerH639 Which will burnH3344 foreverH5704H5769.
5ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068, “15CursedH779 is the manH1397 whoH834 trustsH982 in mankindH120 And makesH7760 16fleshH1320 his 17strengthH2220, And whose heartH3820 turnsH5493 awayH5493 from the LordH3068.6For he will be like a 18bushH6176 in the desertH6160 And will not seeH7200 whenH3588 prosperityH2896 comesH935, But will liveH7931 in stonyH2788 wastesH2788 in the wildernessH4057, A 19landH776 of saltH4420 20withoutH3808 inhabitantH3427.721BlessedH1288 is the manH1397 whoH834 trustsH982 in the LordH3068 And whose 22trustH4009 is the LordH3068.8For he will be like a 23treeH6086 plantedH8362 by the waterH4325, That extendsH7971 its rootsH8328 by a streamH3105 And will not fearH3372 whenH3588 the heatH2527 comesH935; But its leavesH5929 will be greenH7488, And it will not be anxiousH1672 in a yearH8141 of 24droughtH1226 NorH3808 ceaseH4185 to yieldH6213 fruitH6529.
9“The 25heartH3820 is moreH4480 26deceitfulH6121 thanH4480 allH3605 else And is desperatelyH605 27sickH605; WhoH4310 can understandH3045 it?10I, the LordH3068, 28searchH2713 the heartH3820, I testH974 the 29mindH3629, Even 30to giveH5414 to eachH376 manH376 according to his waysH1870, According to the 31resultsH6529 of his deedsH4611.11As a partridgeH7124 that hatchesH1716 eggsH1716 which it has not laidH3205, So is he who 32makesH6213 a fortuneH6239, but unjustlyH4941H3808; In the midstH2677 of his daysH3117 it will forsakeH5800 him, And in 33the endH319 he will be a 34foolH5036.”
1235A gloriousH3519 throneH3678 on highH4791 from the beginningH7223 Is the placeH4725 of our sanctuaryH4720.13O LordH3068, the 36hopeH4723 of IsraelH3478, AllH3605 who 37forsakeH5800 You will be putH954 to shameH954. Those who turnH5493 38awayH5493 on earthH776 will be 39writtenH3789 downH3789, BecauseH3588 they have forsakenH5800 the fountainH4726 of livingH2416 waterH4325, even the LordH3068.1440HealH7495 me, O LordH3068, and I will be healedH7495; 41SaveH3467 me and I will be savedH3467, For You are my 42praiseH8416.15LookH2009, they keep 43sayingH559 to me, “WhereH346 is the wordH1697 of the LordH3068? Let it comeH935 nowH4994!”16But as for me, I have not hurriedH213 away from being a shepherdH7462 afterH310 You, NorH3808 have I longedH183 for the woefulH605 dayH3117; 44You YourselfH859 knowH3045 that the utteranceH4161 of my lipsH8193 Was in Your presenceH6440.17Do not be a 45terrorH4288 to me; You are my 46refugeH4268 in the dayH3117 of disasterH7463.18Let those who persecuteH7291 me be 47putH954 to shameH954, but as for me, 48let me not be putH954 to shameH954; Let them be dismayedH2865, but let me not be dismayedH2865. 49BringH935 on them a dayH3117 of disasterH7463, And crushH7665 them with twofoldH4932 destructionH7670!
The Sabbath Must Be Kept
19ThusH3541 the LordH3068 saidH559 to me, “GoH1980 and standH5975 in the 50publicH1121H5971 gateH8179, through whichH834 the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063 comeH935 in and goH3318 out, as well as in allH3605 the gatesH8179 of JerusalemH3389; 20and sayH559 to them, ‘51ListenH8085 to the wordH1697 of the LordH3068, 52kingsH4428 of JudahH3063, and allH3605 JudahH3063 and allH3605 inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389 who comeH935 in through theseH428 gatesH8179: 21ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068, “53TakeH8104 heedH8104 for yourselvesH5315, and 54do not carryH5375 any loadH4853 on the sabbathH7676 dayH3117 or bringH935 anything in through the gatesH8179 of JerusalemH3389. 22You shall not bringH3318 a loadH4853 out of your housesH1004 on the sabbathH7676 dayH3117 55norH3808 doH6213 anyH3605 workH4399, but keepH6942 the sabbathH7676 dayH3117 holyH6942, as I 56commandedH6680 your 57forefathersH1. 23Yet they 58did not listenH8085 or inclineH5186 their earsH241, but 59stiffenedH7185 their necksH6203 in order not to listenH8085 or takeH3947 correctionH4148.
24“But it will comeH1961 about, ifH518 you 60listenH8085 attentivelyH8085 to Me,” declaresH5002 the LordH3068, “to 61bringH935 noH1115 loadH4853 in through the gatesH8179 of thisH2088 cityH5892 on the sabbathH7676 dayH3117, 62but to keepH6942 the sabbathH7676 dayH3117 holyH6942 by doingH6213 noH1115H3605 workH4399 on it, 2563then there will comeH935 in through the gatesH8179 of thisH2088 cityH5892 kingsH4428 and princesH8269 64sittingH3427 on the throneH3678 of DavidH1732, ridingH7392 in chariotsH7393 and on horsesH5483, they and their princesH8269, the menH376 of JudahH3063 and the inhabitantsH3427 of JerusalemH3389, and thisH2088 65cityH5892 will be inhabitedH3427 foreverH5769. 26They will comeH935 in from the 66citiesH5892 of JudahH3063 and from the environsH5439 of JerusalemH3389, from the landH776 of BenjaminH1144, from the 67lowlandH8219, from the hillH2022 countryH2022 and from the 68NegevH5045, bringingH935 burntH5930 offeringsH5930, sacrificesH2077, grain offeringsH4503 and incenseH3828, and bringingH935 sacrificesH8426 of thanksgivingH8426 to the houseH1004 of the LordH3068. 27But 69ifH518 you do not listenH8085 to Me to keepH6942 the sabbathH7676 dayH3117 holyH6942 by not carryingH5375 a loadH4853 and comingH935 in through the gatesH8179 of JerusalemH3389 on the sabbathH7676 dayH3117, then 70I will kindleH3341 a fireH784 in its gatesH8179 and it will 71devourH398 the palacesH759 of JerusalemH3389 and 72not be quenchedH3518.”’”
