New American Standard Bible 1995
Law of Divorce
1“WhenH3588 a manH376 takesH3947 a wifeH802 and marriesH1166 her, and it happensH1961 1that she findsH4672 noH3808 favorH2580 in his eyesH5869 becauseH3588 he has foundH4672 someH1697 2indecencyH6172 in her, and 3he writesH3789 her a certificateH5612 of divorceH3748 and putsH5414 it in her handH3027 and sendsH7971 her out from his houseH1004, 2and she leavesH3318 his houseH1004 and goesH1980 and becomesH1961 anotherH312 man’sH376 wife, 3and if the latterH314 husbandH376 4turnsH8130 againstH8130 her and writesH3789 her a certificateH5612 of divorceH3748 and putsH5414 it in her handH3027 and sendsH7971 her out of his houseH1004, orH176 ifH3588 the latterH314 husbandH376 diesH4191 whoH834 tookH3947 her to be his wifeH802, 4then her 5formerH7223 husbandH1167 whoH834 sentH7971 her awayH7971 is not allowedH3201 to takeH3947 her againH7725 to be his wifeH802, sinceH310H834 she has been defiledH2930; for that is an abominationH8441 beforeH6440 the LordH3068, and you shall not bringH2398 sinH2398 on the landH776 whichH834 the LordH3068 your GodH430 givesH5414 you as an inheritanceH5159.
5“6WhenH3588 a manH376 takesH3947 a newH2319 wifeH802, he shall not goH3318 out with the armyH6635 norH3808 be chargedH5674 with anyH3605 dutyH1697; he shall be freeH5355 at homeH1004 oneH259 yearH8141 and shall 7giveH8055 happinessH8055 to his wifeH802 whomH834 he has takenH3947.
Sundry Laws
6“NoH3808 one shall takeH2254 a handmillH7347 or an upperH7393 millstoneH7393 in pledgeH2254, for he would be takingH2254 a lifeH5315 in pledgeH2254.
7“8IfH3588 a manH376 is 9caughtH4672 kidnappingH1589 anyH5315 of his 10countrymenH251 of the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478, and he dealsH6014 with him violentlyH6014 or sellsH4376 him, then that thiefH1590 shall dieH4191; so you shall purgeH1197 the evilH7451 from amongH7130 you.
8“11Be carefulH8104 against 12an infectionH5061 of leprosyH6883, that you diligentlyH3966 observeH8104 and doH6213 according to allH3605 that the LeviticalH3881 priestsH3548 teachH3384 you; as I have commandedH6680 them, so you shall be carefulH8104 to doH6213. 9RememberH2142 whatH834 the LordH3068 your GodH430 didH6213 13to MiriamH4813 on the wayH1870 as you cameH3318 out of EgyptH4714.
10“14WhenH3588 you makeH5383 your neighborH7453 a loanH4859 of anyH3972 sortH3972, you shall not enterH935 his houseH1004 to takeH5670 his pledgeH5667. 11You shall remainH5975 outsideH2351, and the manH376 to whomH834 you makeH5383 the loanH5383 shall bringH3318 the pledgeH5667 out to you. 12IfH518 he is a poorH6041 manH376, you shall not sleepH7901 with his pledgeH5667. 1315When the sunH8121 goesH935 down you shall surelyH7725 returnH7725 the pledgeH5667 to him, that he may sleepH7901 in his cloakH8008 and blessH1288 you; and 16it will be righteousnessH6666 for you beforeH6440 the LordH3068 your GodH430.
14“17You shall not oppressH6231 a hiredH7916 servantH7916 who is poorH6041 and needyH34, whetherH4480 he is one of your 18countrymenH251 orH176 one of your aliensH1616 whoH834 is in your landH776 in your 19townsH8179. 1520You shall giveH5414 him his wagesH7939 on his dayH3117 21before the sunH8121 setsH935, for he is poorH6041 and setsH5375 his 22heartH5315 on it; so that 23he will not cryH7121 againstH5921 you to the LordH3068 and it becomeH1961 sinH2399 in you.
16“24FathersH1 shall not be putH4191 to deathH4191 25for their sonsH1121, norH3808 shall sonsH1121 be putH4191 to deathH4191 26for their fathersH1; everyoneH376 shall be putH4191 to deathH4191 for his own sinH2399.
17“27You shall not pervertH5186 the justiceH4941 28due an alienH1616 or 29an orphanH3490, norH3808 30takeH2254 a widow’sH490 garmentH899 in pledgeH2254. 18But you shall rememberH2142 that you were a slaveH5650 in EgyptH4714, and that the LordH3068 your GodH430 redeemedH6299 you from thereH8033; thereforeH5921H3651 I am commandingH6680 you to doH6213 thisH2088 thingH1697.
19“31WhenH3588 you reapH7114 your harvestH7105 in your fieldH7704 and have forgottenH7911 a sheafH6016 in the fieldH7704, you shall not goH7725 backH7725 to getH3947 it; it shall be 32for the alienH1616, for the 33orphanH3490, and for the widowH490, in orderH4616 that the LordH3068 your GodH430 34may blessH1288 you in allH3605 the workH4639 of your handsH3027. 2035WhenH3588 you beatH2251 your oliveH2132 treeH2132, you shall not goH6287 overH6287 the boughsH6287 36againH310; it shall be 37for the alienH1616, for the 38orphanH3490, and for the widowH490.
21“WhenH3588 you gatherH1219 the grapes of your vineyardH3754, you shall not 39goH5953 overH5953 it againH310; it shall be for the alienH1616, for the 40orphanH3490, and for the widowH490. 22You shall rememberH2142 that you were a slaveH5650 in the landH776 of EgyptH4714; thereforeH5921H3651 I am commandingH6680 you to doH6213 thisH2088 thingH1697.
