Sundry Laws

1“1IfH3588 there is a disputeH7379 betweenH996 menH376 and they goH5066 to 2courtH4941, and 3the judgesH8199 decideH8199 their case, 4and they justifyH6663 the righteousH6662 and condemnH7561 the wickedH7563, 2then it shall be ifH518 the wickedH7563 manH7563 56deservesH1121 to be beatenH5221, the judgeH8199 shall then make him lieH5307 downH5307 and be beatenH5221 in his presenceH6440 with the numberH4557 of stripes accordingH1767 to his 7guiltH7564. 38He may beatH5221 him fortyH705 timesH705 but noH3808 moreH3254, soH6435 that he does not beatH5221 him with manyH7227 moreH3254 stripesH4347 thanH5921 theseH428 and your brotherH251 is not 9degradedH7034 in your eyesH5869.

4“10You shall not muzzleH2629 the oxH7794 while he is threshingH1758.

5“WhenH3588 brothersH251 liveH3427 togetherH3164 and oneH259 of them diesH4191 and hasH369 noH369 sonH1121, the wifeH802 of the deceasedH4191 shall not be married outsideH2351 the family to a strangeH2114 manH376. 11Her husband’sH2993 brotherH2993 shall goH935 in to her and takeH3947 her to himself as wifeH802 and performH2992 the dutyH2992 of a husband’sH2992 brotherH2992 to her. 6It shall be that the firstbornH1060 whomH834 she bearsH3205 shall 12assumeH6965 the nameH8034 of his deadH4191 brotherH251, so that 13his nameH8034 will not be blottedH4229 out from IsraelH3478. 714But ifH518 the manH376 does not desireH2654 to takeH3947 his brother’sH2994 wifeH2994, then his brother’sH2994 wifeH2994 shall goH5927 up to the gateH8179 to the eldersH2205 and sayH559, ‘My husband’sH2993 brotherH2993 refusesH3985 to establishH6965 a nameH8034 for his brotherH251 in IsraelH3478; he is not willingH14 to performH2992 the dutyH2992 of a husband’sH2992 brotherH2992 to me.’ 8Then the eldersH2205 of his cityH5892 shall summonH7121 him and speakH1696 to him. And if he persistsH5975 and saysH559, ‘I do not desireH2654 to takeH3947 her,’ 915then his brother’sH251 wifeH2994 shall comeH5066 to him in the sightH5869 of the eldersH2205, and pullH2502 his sandalH5275 offH4480H5921 his footH7272 and 16spitH3417 in his faceH6440; and she shall 17declareH6030H559, ‘ThusH3602 it is doneH6213 to the manH376 whoH834 does not buildH1129 up his brother’sH251 houseH1004.’ 10In IsraelH3478 his nameH8034 shall be calledH7121, ‘The houseH1004 of him whose sandalH5275 is removedH2502.’

11“IfH3588 two menH376, a manH376 and his 18countrymanH251, are strugglingH5327 togetherH3164, and the wifeH802 of oneH259 comesH7126 nearH7126 to deliverH5337 her husbandH376 from the handH3027 of the one who is strikingH5221 him, and putsH7971 out her handH3027 and seizesH2388 his genitalsH4016, 12then you shall cutH7112 offH7112 her 19handH3709; 2021you shall not showH2347 pityH2347.

13“22You shall not haveH1961 in your bagH3599 23differingH68 weightsH68, a largeH1419 and a smallH6996. 14You shall not haveH1961 in your houseH1004 24differingH374 measuresH374, a largeH1419 and a smallH6996. 15You shall haveH1961 a fullH8003 and justH6664 weightH68; you shall haveH1961 a fullH8003 and justH6664 25measureH374, 26that your daysH3117 may be prolongedH748 in the 27landH127 whichH834 the LordH3068 your GodH430 givesH5414 you. 16For 28everyoneH3605 whoH834 doesH6213 theseH428 thingsH428, everyoneH3605 who actsH6213 unjustlyH5766 is an abominationH8441 to the LordH3068 your GodH430.

17“29RememberH2142 whatH834 AmalekH6002 didH6213 to you along the wayH1870 when you cameH3318 out from EgyptH4714, 18howH834 he metH7136 you along the wayH1870 and attackedH2179 among you allH3605 the stragglersH2826 at your rearH310 when you were faintH5889 and wearyH3023; and he 30did not 31fearH3372 GodH430. 19Therefore it shall comeH1961 about when the LordH3068 your GodH430 has givenH5117 you 32restH5117 from allH3605 your surroundingH5439 enemiesH340, in the landH776 whichH834 the LordH3068 your GodH430 givesH5414 you as an inheritanceH5159 to 33possessH3423, you shall blotH4229 out the memoryH2143 of AmalekH6002 from underH8478 heavenH8064; you must not forgetH7911.
