For the overseerG1985 must beG1510 free from all charge [against him] as 1God's stewardG3623; not headstrong, not passionate, not disorderly through wineG3943, not a striker, not seeking gainG146 by base means;
but hospitableG5382, a lover of goodness, discreet, justG1342, pious, temperate,
clinging to the faithfulG4103 wordG3056 accordingG2596 to the doctrineG1319 taught, that he may beG1510 ableG1415 both to encourageG3870 with soundG5198 teachingG1322 and refute gainsayers.
For there areG1510 manyG4183 and disorderly vain speakers and deceivers of people's minds, specially those of [the] circumcisionG4061,
who must have their mouths stopped, who subvert wholeG3650 houses, teachingG1321 thingsG3739 which oughtG1163 not [to be taughtG1321] for the sake of base gainG2771.
