Daniel 8
Darby Bible
1In the third yearH8141 of the reignH4438 of Belshazzar the kingH4428, a visionH2377 appearedH7200 unto me, [even] to me DanielH1840, after that which appearedH7200 unto me at the firstH8462. 2And I sawH7200 in the visionH2377; and it came to pass, when I sawH7200, that I wasH1961 in the fortress of Shushan, which is in the provinceH4082 of ElamH5867. And I sawH7200 in the visionH2377, and I wasH1961 by the river UlaiH195. 3And I liftedH5375 up mine eyesH5869 and sawH7200, and behold, there stoodH5975 before the river a ramH352 which had two hornsH7161; and the two hornsH7161 were highH1364; and oneH259 was higherH1364 than the other, and the higherH1364 cameH5927 up lastH314. 4I sawH7200 the ramH352 pushing westward, and northward, and southward, and no beast could standH5975 before him, neither was there any that could deliverH5337 out of his handH3027; and he did according to his will, and becameH1431 greatH1431. 5And as I was considering, behold, a he-goat cameH935 from the westH4628 over the faceH6440 of the whole earthH776, and touchedH5060 not the groundH776: and the goatH5795 had a notable hornH7161 between his eyesH5869. 6And he cameH935 to the ramH352 that had the two hornsH7161, which I had seenH7200 standingH5975 before the river, and ranH7323 upon him in the fury of his powerH3581. 7And I sawH7200 him come close to the ramH352, and he wasH1961 enraged with him, and smote the ramH352, and brokeH7665 his twoH8147 hornsH7161; and there wasH1961 no power in the ramH352 to standH5975 before him; and he castH7993 him downH5221 to the groundH776, and trampledH7429 upon him; and there wasH1961 none that could deliverH5337 the ramH352 out of his handH3027. 8And the he-goat becameH1431 exceeding greatH1419; but when he was becomeH1431 strong, the greatH1419 hornH7161 was brokenH7665; and in its stead cameH5927 up fourH702 notable ones toward the fourH702 windsH7307 of the heavensH8064. 9And out of oneH259 of them cameH3318 forthH3318 a little hornH7161, which becameH1431 exceeding greatH1431, toward the southH5045, and toward the eastH4217, and toward the beauty [of the earth]. 10And it becameH1431 greatH1431, even to the hostH6635 of heavenH8064; and it castH5307 downH5307 [some] of the hostH6635 and of the starsH3556 to the groundH776, and trampledH7429 upon them. 11(And he magnifiedH1431 [himself] even to the princeH8269 of the hostH6635, and from him the continual [sacrifice] was taken awayH7993, and the placeH4349 of his sanctuaryH4720 was castH7993 downH7993. 12And a time of trial was appointed unto the continual [sacrifice] by reason of transgressionH6588.) And it castH7993 down the truthH571 to the groundH776; and it practised and prospered. 13And I heardH8085 oneH259 saint speakingH1696, and another saint saidH559 unto that oneH259 who spokeH1696, How long shall be the visionH2377 of the continual [sacrifice] and of the transgressionH6588 that maketh desolateH8074, to giveH5414 both the sanctuaryH6944 and the hostH6635 to be trodden down under foot? 14And he saidH559 unto me, Until twoH3967 thousandH505 and threeH7969 hundredH3967 eveningsH6153 [and] morningsH1242: then shall the sanctuaryH6944 be vindicatedH6663. 15And it came to pass, when I DanielH1840 had seenH7200 the visionH2377, I soughtH1245 for the understandingH998 of it, and behold, there stoodH5975 before me as the appearanceH4758 of a manH1397. 16And I heardH8085 a man's voiceH6963 between [the banks of] the UlaiH195; and he calledH7121 and saidH559, GabrielH1403, makeH8085 this [manH120] to understandH995 the visionH4758. 17And he cameH935 near where I stoodH5975; and when he cameH935, I was afraid, and fellH5307 on my faceH6440; and he saidH559 unto me, UnderstandH995, sonH1121 of manH120; for the visionH2377 is for the timeH6256 of the endH7093. 18Now, as he was speakingH1696 with me, I was in a deep stupor, with my faceH6440 toward the groundH776. And he touchedH5060 me, and setH5975 me up where I had stoodH5975. 19And he saidH559, Behold, I will makeH3045 thee knowH3045 what shall beH1961 at the endH7093 of the indignationH2195: for at the set timeH4150 the endH7093 shall beH1961. 20The ramH352 that thou sawest having the two hornsH7161: they are the kingsH4428 of MediaH4074 and PersiaH6539. 21And the rough goatH8163 is the kingH4428 of GreeceH3120; and the greatH1419 hornH7161 that was between his eyesH5869 is the firstH7223 kingH4428. 22Now that being brokenH7665, whereas fourH702 stoodH5975 up in its stead, fourH702 kingdomsH4438 shall standH5975 up out of the nationH1471, but not with his powerH3581. 23And at the latterH319 time of their kingdomH4438, when the transgressorsH6586 shall have come to the full, a kingH4428 of bold countenance, and understandingH995 riddlesH2420, shall standH5975 up. 24And his powerH3581 shall be mightyH6099, but not by his own powerH3581; and he shall destroyH7843 marvellously, and shall prosperH6743, and shall practise, and shall destroyH7843 the mightyH6099 onesH6918, and the peopleH5971 of the saints. 25And through his cunning shall he cause craft to prosperH6743 in his handH3027; and he will magnifyH1431 [himself] in his heartH3824, and by prosperityH7962 will corruptH7843 manyH7227; and he will standH5975 up against the PrinceH8269 of princesH8269: but he shall be brokenH7665 without handH3027. 26And the visionH2377 of the eveningH6153 and the morningH1242 which hath been told is true; but close thou up the visionH2377, for it is for manyH7227 daysH3117 [to come]. 27And I DanielH1840 fainted, and was sickH2470 [certain] daysH3117: then I roseH6965 up, and did the king's businessH4399. And I was astonished at the visionH4758, but none understoodH995 [it].
