Daniel 8
Vision of the Ram and Goat
1In the thirdH7969 yearH8141 of the reignH4438 of BelshazzarH1112 the kingH4428, a visionH2377 appearedH7200 to me, 1DanielH1840, subsequentH310 to the one which appearedH7200 to me 2previouslyH8462. 2I 3lookedH7200 in the visionH2377, and while I was lookingH7200, I was in the citadelH1002 of 4SusaH7800, whichH834 is in the provinceH4082 of 5ElamH5867; and I lookedH7200 in the visionH2377, and I myselfH589 was besideH5921 the UlaiH195 CanalH180. 3Then I raisedH5375 my eyesH5869 and lookedH7200, and beholdH2009, a 6ramH352 which had two hornsH7161 was standingH5975 in frontH6440 of the canalH180. Now the two hornsH7161 were 7longH1364, but oneH259 was 8longerH1364 thanH4480 the otherH8145, with the 9longerH1364 oneH1364 comingH5927 upH5927 lastH314. 4I sawH7200 the ramH352 10buttingH5055 westwardH3220, northwardH6828, and southwardH5045, and noH3808 other beastsH2421 could standH5975 againstH6440 him norH369 wasH369 thereH369 anyoneH369 to rescueH5337 from his 11powerH3027, but 12he didH6213 as he pleasedH7522 and madeH1431 himself greatH1431.
5While I was observingH995, beholdH2009, a maleH6842 goatH6842 was comingH935 from the westH4628 overH5921 the surfaceH6440 of the entireH3605 earthH776 withoutH369 touchingH5060 the groundH776; and the goatH6842 had a 13prominentH2380 hornH7161 betweenH996 his eyesH5869. 6He cameH935 up to the ramH352 that had the two hornsH7161, whichH834 I had seenH7200 standingH5975 in frontH6440 of the canalH180, and rushedH7323 at him in his mightyH3581 wrathH2534. 7And I sawH7200 him comeH5060 up besideH681 the ramH352, and he wasH4843 enragedH4843 at him; and he struckH5221 the ramH352 and smashedH7665 his twoH8147 hornsH7161, and the ramH352 hadH1961 noH3808 strengthH3581 to withstandH5975 him. So he hurledH7993 him to the groundH776 and trampledH7429 onH7429 him, and there was noH3808 one to rescueH5337 the ramH352 from his 14powerH3027. 8Then the maleH6842 goatH5795 madeH1431 himself exceedinglyH5704H3966 greatH1431. But once 15he becameH6105 powerfulH6105, the 16largeH1419 hornH7161 was brokenH7665; and inH8478 its placeH8478 fourH702 prominentH2380 horns cameH5927 upH5927 toward the 17fourH702 windsH7307 of heavenH8064.
The Little Horn
9And outH3318 of oneH259 of them cameH3318 a rather 18smallH6810 hornH7161 which grewH1431 exceedinglyH3499 greatH1431 towardH413 the southH5045, towardH413 the eastH4217, and towardH413 the 1920BeautifulH6643 Land. 10It grewH1431 upH1431 to the heavenlyH8064 21lightsH6635, and someH4480 of the 22lightsH6635, 23that is, someH4480 of the 24starsH3556 it threwH5307 downH5307 to the earthH776, and it 25trampledH7429 them. 11It even 26exaltedH1431 itself 27to be equalH5704 with the 28CommanderH8269 of the armyH6635; and it removedH7311 the 29regularH8548 sacrificeH8548 from Him, and the placeH4349 of His sanctuaryH4720 was overthrownH7993. 12And because of 30an offenseH6588 the armyH6635 will be givenH5414 to the horn alongH5921 withH5921 the regularH8548 sacrificeH8548; and it will 31hurlH7993 truthH571 to the groundH776 and doH6213 as it pleases and beH6743 successfulH6743. 13Then I heardH8085 a 32holyH6918 oneH6918 speakingH1696, and anotherH259 holyH6918 oneH6918 saidH559 to that particularH6423 oneH6423 who was speakingH1696, “33HowH4970 longH5704H4970 will the visionH2377 about the regularH8548 sacrificeH8548 apply, 34while the offenseH6588 causesH8074 horrorH8074, so as to allowH5414 both the sanctuaryH6944 and the armyH6635 35to be 36trampledH4823?” 14And he saidH559 to me, “For 372,300H505H7969H3967 eveningsH6153 and morningsH1242; then the sanctuaryH6944 will be 38properlyH6663 restoredH6663.”
Interpretation of the Vision
15When 39I, DanielH1840, had seenH7200 the visionH2377, I soughtH1245 40to understandH998 it; and beholdH2009, standingH5975 beforeH5048 me was one 41whoH4758 lookedH4758 like a 42manH1397. 16And I heardH8085 the voiceH6963 of a manH120 betweenH996 the banks of UlaiH195, and he calledH7121 outH7121 and saidH559, “43GabrielH1403, explainH995 the visionH4758 to thisH1975 man.” 17So he cameH935 nearH681 to whereH5977 I was standingH5977, and when he cameH935 I was frightenedH1204 and 44fellH5307 on my faceH6440; and he saidH559 to me, “SonH1121 of manH120, understandH995 that the visionH2377 pertains to the 45timeH6256 of the endH7093.”
18Now while he was talkingH1696 with me, I wasH7290 46dazedH7290 with my faceH6440 to the groundH776; but he 47touchedH5060 me and made me standH5975 at my placeH5977. 19And he saidH559, “BeholdH2009, I am going to 48informH3045 you of whatH834 will occurH1961 at the finalH319 periodH319 of the indignationH2195, becauseH3588 it pertains to the appointedH4150 timeH4150 of the endH7093.
The Ram’s Identity
20The 49ramH352 whichH834 you sawH7200 with the two hornsH7161 represents the kingsH4428 of MediaH4074 and PersiaH6539.
The Goat
21The shaggyH8163 50goatH5795 represents the 51kingdomH4428 of GreeceH3120, and the largeH1419 hornH7161 that is betweenH996 his eyesH5869 is the firstH7223 kingH4428. 22The 52brokenH7665 horn and the fourH702 horns that cameH5975 upH5975 inH8478 its placeH8478 represent fourH702 kingdomsH4438 which will ariseH5975 from his nationH1471, although not with his powerH3581.23And in the latterH319 periodH319 of their 53dominionH4438, When the wrongdoersH6586 have 54runH8552 their course, A kingH4428 will ariseH5975, 55InsolentH5794H6440 and skilledH995 in 56intrigueH2420.24And his powerH3581 will beH6105 mightyH6105, but not by his own powerH3581, And he will 5758destroyH7843 toH6381 anH6381 extraordinaryH6381 degreeH6381 And beH6743 successfulH6743 and doH6213 as he pleases; He will 59destroyH7843 mightyH6099 menH6099 and 60the holyH6918 peopleH5971.25And throughH5921 his shrewdnessH7922 He will makeH6743 deceitH4820 aH6743 successH6743 by his 61influenceH3027; And he will makeH1431 himself greatH1431 in his 62own mindH3824, And he will 63destroyH7843 manyH7227 while they are 64at easeH7962. He will even 6566opposeH5975H5921 the PrinceH8269 of princesH8269, But he will be brokenH7665 67withoutH657 68humanH3027 agencyH3027.26And the visionH4758 of the eveningsH6153 and morningsH1242 WhichH834 has been toldH559 is 69trueH571; But as for you, 70keepH5640 the visionH2377 secretH5640, BecauseH3588 it pertains to manyH7227 71daysH3117 in the future.”
27Then I, DanielH1840, was 7273exhaustedH1961 and sickH2470 for daysH3117. Then I gotH6965 upH6965 and 74carriedH6213 onH6213 the king’sH4428 businessH4399; but I wasH8074 astoundedH8074 at the visionH4758, and thereH369 wasH369 noH369 oneH369 to explainH995 it.
