Leviticus 5
(Leviticus 4:1–35; Leviticus 6:24–30)
1“IfH3588 someoneH5315 sinsH2398 by failingH3808 to testifyH5046 when he hearsH8085 a publicH6963 chargeH423 about something heH1931 has witnessedH5707, whetherH176 he has seen itH7200 orH176 learned of itH3045H518, he shall bearH5375 the iniquityH5771.
2OrH176 if a personH5315 touchesH5060 anythingH3605H1697 uncleanH2931—whether the carcassH5038 of any uncleanH2931 wild animalH2416 orH176H5038 livestockH929 orH176H5038 crawling creatureH8318—even if he is unawareH5956 of itH4480, heH1931 is uncleanH2931 and guiltyH816.
3OrH176 ifH3588 he touchesH5060 humanH120 uncleannessH2932—anythingH3605 by whichH834 one becomes uncleanH2930—even if he is unawareH5956 of itH4480, when heH1931 realizes itH3045, he is guiltyH816.
4OrH176 ifH3588 someoneH5315 swearsH7650 thoughtlesslyH981 with his lipsH8193 to do anything goodH3190 orH176 evilH7489—inH3605 whatever matterH834 a manH120 may rashly pronounceH981 an oathH7621—even if he is unawareH5956 of itH4480, when heH1931 realizes itH3045, he is guiltyH816 inH259H428 the matter.
IfH3588 someone incurs guiltH816 in oneH259 of these waysH428, he must confessH3034 the sin he has committedH2398H5921, 6and he must bringH935 his guilt offeringH817 to the LORDH3068 forH5921 the sinH2403 he has committedH2398: a femaleH5347 lambH3776 orH176 goatH8166H5795 fromH4480 the flockH6629 as a sin offeringH2403. And the priestH3548 will make atonementH3722 for himH5921 concerning his sinH2403.
7If, howeverH518, he cannotH3808 affordH5060H3027H1767 a lambH7716, he may bringH935 to the LORDH3068 as restitutionH817 for his sinH2398 twoH8147 turtledovesH8449 orH176 twoH8147 youngH1121 pigeonsH3123—oneH259 as a sin offeringH2403 and the otherH259 as a burnt offeringH5930. 8He is to bringH935 themH853 toH413 the priestH3548, who shall firstH7223 presentH7126 the oneH834 for the sin offeringH2403. He is to twistH4454 its headH7218 at the frontH4136 of its neckH6203 withoutH3808 severing itH914; 9then he is to sprinkleH5137 some of the bloodH1818 of the sin offeringH2403 onH5921 the sideH7023 of the altarH4196, while the restH7604 of the bloodH1818 is drained outH4680 atH413 the baseH3247 of the altarH4196. ItH1931 is a sin offeringH2403. 10AndH853 the priest must prepareH6213 the secondH8145 bird as a burnt offeringH5930 according to the ordinanceH4941. In this way the priestH3548 will make atonementH3722 for himH5921 for the sinH2403 he has committedH2398, and he will be forgivenH5545.
11But ifH518 he cannotH3808 affordH5381H3027 twoH8147 turtledovesH8449 orH176 twoH8147 youngH1121 pigeonsH3123, he may bringH935 a tenthH6224 of an ephahH374 of fine flourH55601 as a sin offeringH2403. He must notH3808 putH7760 olive oilH8081H3808H5414H5921 or frankincenseH3828 on itH5921, becauseH3588 itH1931 is a sin offeringH2403. 12He is to bringH935 it toH413 the priestH3548, who shall takeH7061H3548 a handfulH4393H7062 from itH4480 as a memorial portionH234 and burnH6999 it on the altarH4196 atopH5921 the food offeringsH801 to the LORDH3068; itH1931 is a sin offeringH2403. 13In this way the priestH3548 will make atonementH3722 for himH5921 forH5921 anyH259 of theseH428 sinsH2403 he has committedH2398, and he will be forgivenH5545. The remainder will belong toH1961 the priestH3548, like the grain offeringH4503.”
Laws for Guilt Offerings
(Leviticus 6:1–7; Leviticus 7:1–10)
14Then the LORDH3068 saidH1696 toH413 MosesH4872H559, 15“IfH3588 someoneH5315 actsH4603 unfaithfullyH4604 and sinsH2398 unintentionally againstH7684 any of the LORD’sH3068 holy thingsH6944, he must bringH935 his guilt offeringH817 to the LORDH3068: an unblemishedH8549 ramH352 fromH4480 the flockH6629, of proper valueH61872 in silverH3701 shekelsH8255 according to the sanctuaryH6944 shekelH8255;3 it is a guilt offeringH817. 16Regarding any holy thingH6944 he has harmedH2398H4480, he must make restitutionH7999 by addingH3254 a fifthH2549 of its value to itH5921 and givingH5414 it to the priestH3548, who will make atonementH3722 on his behalfH5921 with the ramH352 as a guilt offeringH817, and he will be forgivenH5545.
17IfH518 someoneH5315H3588 sinsH2398 and violatesH6213 anyH259H3605 of the LORD’sH3068 commandmentsH4687 even though he wasH3808H6213 unawareH3045, he is guiltyH816 and shall bearH5375 his punishmentH5771. 18He is to bringH935 toH413 the priestH3548 an unblemishedH8549 ramH352 of proper valueH6187 fromH4480 the flockH6629 as a guilt offeringH817. Then the priestH3548 will make atonementH3722 on his behalfH5921 forH5921 the wrongH7684 he has committedH7683H1931 in ignoranceH3808H3045, and he will be forgivenH5545. 19ItH1931 is a guilt offeringH817; he was certainly guiltyH8164 before the LORDH3068.”
