Leviticus 5
The Law of Guilt Offerings
1‘Now ifH3588 a personH5315 sinsH2398 after he hearsH8085 a 1publicH6963 2orderH423 to testify when he is a witnessH5707, whetherH176 he has seenH7200 orH176 otherwise knownH3045, ifH518 he does not tellH5046 it, then he will bearH5375 his punishmentH5771. 2OrH176 ifH834 a personH5315 touchesH5060 3anyH3605 uncleanH2931 thingH1697, whetherH176 a carcassH5038 of an uncleanH2931 animalH2421, orH176 the carcassH5038 of uncleanH2931 cattleH929, orH176 a carcassH5038 of uncleanH2931 swarmingH8318 thingsH8318, though it is hiddenH5956 from him and he is uncleanH2931, then he will be guiltyH816. 3OrH176 ifH3588 he touchesH5060 humanH120 uncleannessH2932, of whateverH3605 sort his uncleannessH2932 may be with whichH834 he becomesH2930 uncleanH2930, and it is hiddenH5956 from him, and then he comes to knowH3045 it, he will be guiltyH816. 4OrH176 ifH3588 a personH5315 4swearsH7650 thoughtlesslyH981 with his lipsH8193 to doH7489 evilH7489 orH176 to doH3190 goodH3190, in whateverH3605H834 matter peopleH120 speakH981 thoughtlesslyH981 with an oathH7621, and it is hiddenH5956 from him, and then he comes to knowH3045 it, he will be guiltyH816 of oneH259 of theseH428 thingsH428. 5So it shall be whenH3588 he becomesH816 guiltyH816 of oneH259 of theseH428 thingsH428, that he shall 5confessH3034 that in whichH834 he has sinnedH2398. 6He shall also bringH935 his guiltH817 offeringH817 to the LordH3068 for his sinH2403 whichH834 he has 6committedH2398, 7a femaleH5347 from the flockH6629, a lambH3776 orH176 a 8goatH8166H5795 as a sinH2403 offeringH2403. So the priestH3548 shall makeH3722 atonementH3722 onH5921 his behalfH5921 for his sinH2403.
7‘But ifH518 9he cannotH3808 affordH5060H3027 a lambH7716, then he shall bringH935 to the LordH3068 his guiltH817 offeringH817 for that in whichH834 he has sinnedH2398, twoH8147 turtledovesH8449 orH176 twoH8147 youngH1121 dovesH3123, 10oneH259 as a sinH2403 offeringH2403 and the otherH259 as a burntH5930 offeringH5930. 8He shall bringH935 them to the priestH3548, who shall firstH7223 offerH7126 that whichH834 is for the sinH2403 offeringH2403, and shall pinchH4454 offH4454 its headH7218 at the frontH4136 of its neckH6203, but he 11shall not severH914 it. 9He shall also sprinkleH5137 someH4480 of the bloodH1818 of the sinH2403 offeringH2403 12on the sideH7023 of the altarH4196, while the restH7604 of the bloodH1818 shall be drainedH4680 outH4680 13at the baseH3247 of the altarH4196: it is a sinH2403 offeringH2403. 10The secondH8145 he shall then prepareH6213 as a burntH5930 offeringH5930 14according to the ordinanceH4941. 15So the priestH3548 shall makeH3722 atonementH3722 onH5921 his behalfH5921 for his sinH2403 whichH834 he has 16committedH2398, and it will be forgivenH5545 him.
11‘But 17ifH518 his 18meansH3027 areH5381 insufficientH3808H5381 for twoH8147 turtledovesH8449 orH176 twoH8147 youngH1121 dovesH3123, then for his offeringH7133 for that whichH834 he has sinnedH2398, he shall bringH935 the tenthH6224 of an 19ephahH374 of fineH5560 flourH5560 as a sinH2403 offeringH2403; 20he shall not putH7760 oilH8081 on it or placeH5414 incenseH3828 on it, for it is a sinH2403 offeringH2403. 12He shall bringH935 it to the priestH3548, and the priestH3548 shall takeH7061 his handfulH4393H7062 of it as its memorialH234 portionH234 and offerH6999 it upH6999 inH6999 smokeH6999 on the altarH4196, 21with the offeringsH801 of the LordH3068 byH801 fireH801: it is a sinH2403 offeringH2403. 13So the priestH3548 shall makeH3722 atonementH3722 for him concerningH5921 his sinH2403 whichH834 he has 22committedH2398 from 23oneH259 of theseH428, and it will be forgivenH5545 him; then 24the rest shall becomeH1961 the priest’sH3548, like the grain offeringH4503.’”
14Then the LordH3068 spokeH1696 to MosesH4872, sayingH559, 15“25IfH3588 a personH5315 actsH4603 unfaithfullyH4603H4604 and sinsH2398 26unintentionallyH7684 againstH4480 the Lord’sH3068 holyH6944 thingsH6944, then he shall bringH935 his 27guiltH817 offeringH817 to the LordH3068: 28a ramH352 withoutH8549 defectH8549 from the flockH6629, according to your assessmentH6187 in silverH3701 by shekelsH8255, in terms of the 29shekelH8255 of the sanctuaryH6944, as a guiltH817 offeringH817. 16And 30he shall makeH7999 restitutionH7999 for that whichH834 he has sinnedH2398 againstH4480 the holyH6944 thingH6944, and shall addH3254 to it a fifthH2549 partH2549 of it and giveH5414 it to the priestH3548. 31The priestH3548 shall then makeH3722 atonementH3722 for him with the ramH352 of the guiltH817 offeringH817, and it will be forgivenH5545 him.
17“Now ifH518 a personH5315 sinsH2398 and doesH6213 anyH259 of the things 32whichH834 the LordH3068 has commandedH4687 not to be doneH6213, 33though he wasH3045 unawareH3045H3808, he is still guiltyH816 and shall bearH5375 his punishmentH5771. 18He is then to bringH935 to the priestH3548 34a ramH352 withoutH8549 defectH8549 from the flockH6629, according to your assessmentH6187, as a guiltH817 offeringH817. So the priestH3548 shall makeH3722 atonementH3722 for him concerningH5921 his sinH7684 whichH834 he committedH7683 35unintentionallyH7683 and did not knowH3045 it, and it will be forgivenH5545 him. 19It is a guiltH817 offeringH817; he was certainlyH816 guiltyH816 before the LordH3068.”
