1Now Aaron’sH175 sonsH1121 NadabH5070 and AbihuH30 tookH3947 their censersH4289, putH5414 fireH784 in them and addedH7760 incenseH7004, and offeredH7126 unauthorizedH21141 fireH784 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068, contrary toH3808 His commandH6680. 2So fireH784 came outH3318 from the presenceH6440 of the LORDH3068 and consumedH398 themH853, and they diedH4191 in the presence ofH6440 the LORDH3068.

3Then MosesH4872 saidH559 toH413 AaronH175, “ThisH1931 is whatH834 the LORDH3068 meantH1696 when He saidH559:

But AaronH175 remained silentH1826.

4MosesH4872 summonedH7121 MishaelH4332 and ElzaphanH469,2 sonsH1121 of Aaron’sH175 uncleH1730 UzzielH5816, and saidH559 to themH413, “Come hereH7126; carryH5375 the bodies of your cousinsH251 outsideH2351 the campH4264, away from the frontH6440 of the sanctuaryH6944H413.” 5So they came forwardH7126 and carried themH5375, still in their tunicsH3801H413, outsideH2351 the campH4264, asH834 MosesH4872 had directedH1696.

6Then MosesH4872 saidH559 toH413 AaronH175 and his sonsH1121 EleazarH499 and IthamarH385, “Do notH408 let your hairH7218 become disheveledH65443 and do notH3808 tearH6533 your garmentsH899, or elseH3808 you will dieH4191, and the LORD will be angryH7107 withH5921 the wholeH3605 congregationH5712. But your brothersH251, the wholeH3605 houseH1004 of IsraelH3478, may mournH1058 on account of the fireH8316 thatH834 the LORDH3068 has ignitedH8313. 7You shall notH3808 go outsideH3318 the entranceH6607 to the TentH168 of MeetingH4150, orH6435 you will dieH4191, forH3588 the LORD’sH3068 anointingH4888 oilH8081 is on youH5921.”

So they didH6213 as MosesH4872 instructedH1697.

Restrictions for Priests

8Then the LORDH3068 saidH1696 toH413 AaronH175H559, 9“YouH859 and your sonsH1121H854 are notH408 to drinkH8354 wineH3196 or strong drinkH7941 when you enterH935H413 the TentH168 of MeetingH4150, or elseH3808 you will dieH4191; this is a permanentH5769 statuteH2708 for the generations to comeH1755. 10You must distinguishH914 betweenH996 the holyH6944H996 and the commonH2455, betweenH996 the cleanH2889 and the uncleanH2931H996, 11so that you may teachH3384 the IsraelitesH1121H3478 allH3605 the statutesH2706 thatH834 the LORDH3068 has givenH1696 themH413 throughH3027 MosesH4872.”

12And MosesH4872 saidH1696 toH413 AaronH175H413 and his remainingH3498 sonsH1121, EleazarH499H413 and IthamarH385, “TakeH3947 the grain offeringH4503 that remainsH3498 from the food offeringsH801 to the LORDH3068 and eat itH398 without leavenH4682 besideH681 the altarH4196, becauseH3588 itH1931 is mostH6944 holyH6944. 13You shall eatH398 it in a holyH6918 placeH4725, becauseH3588 itH1931 is your shareH2706 and your sons’ shareH1121 of the food offeringsH801 to the LORDH3068; forH3588 this is whatH3651 I have been commandedH6680.

14AndH853 youH859 and your sonsH1121 and daughtersH1323H854 may eatH398 the breastH2373 of the wave offeringH8573 and the thighH7785 of the contributionH8641 in a ceremonially cleanH2889 placeH4725, becauseH3588 these portionsH2706 have been assignedH5414 to you and your childrenH1121 from the peace offeringsH2077H8002 of the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478. 15They are to bringH935 the thighH7785 of the contributionH8641 and the breastH2373 of the wave offeringH8573, together withH5921 the fat portionsH2459 of the food offeringsH801, to waveH5130 as a wave offeringH8573 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068. It will belong permanentlyH5769 toH1961 you and your childrenH1121H854H2706, asH834 the LORDH3068 has commandedH6680.”

16LaterH853, MosesH4872 searched carefullyH1875 for the goatH8163 of the sin offeringH2403, and beholdH2009, it had been burned upH8313. He was angryH7107 withH5921 EleazarH499H5921 and IthamarH385, Aaron’sH175 remainingH3498 sonsH1121, and askedH559, 17“WhyH4069 didn’t youH3808 eatH398 the sin offeringH2403 in the holyH6944 placeH4725? ForH3588 itH1931 is mostH6944 holyH6944; it was givenH5414 to you to take awayH5375 the guiltH5771 of the congregationH5712 by making atonementH3722 for themH5921 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068. 18SinceH2005 its bloodH1818H413 was notH3808 broughtH935 insideH6441 the holyH6944 place, you should have eatenH398 it in the sanctuary areaH6944, asH834 I commandedH6680.”

19But AaronH175 repliedH1696 toH413 MosesH4872, “BeholdH2005, this very dayH3117 they presentedH7126 their sin offeringH2403 and their burnt offeringH5930 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068. Since these thingsH428 have happened to meH7122, if I had eatenH398 the sin offeringH2403 todayH3117, would it have been acceptableH3190 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068?”

20And when MosesH4872 heard thisH8085 explanation, he was satisfiedH3190H5869.
