(Matthew 22:34–40; Mark 12:28–34)

1These areH2063 the commandmentsH4687 and statutesH2706 and ordinancesH4941 thatH834 the LORDH3068 your GodH430 has instructed meH6680 to teach youH3925 to followH6213 in the landH776 thatH834 youH859 are about to enterH5674H8033 and possessH3423, 2so that youH4616 and your childrenH1121 and grandchildrenH1121 may fearH3372 the LORDH3068 your GodH430 allH3605 the daysH3117 of your livesH2416 by keepingH8104 allH3605 His statutesH2708 and commandmentsH4687 thatH834 IH595 giveH6680 youH859, and so thatH4616 your daysH3117 may be prolongedH748. 3HearH8085, O IsraelH3478, and be carefulH8104 to observe themH6213, so thatH834 you may prosperH3190 and multiplyH7235 greatlyH3966 in a landH776 flowingH2100 with milkH2461 and honeyH1706, just asH834 the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of your fathersH1, has promisedH1696 you.

4HearH8085, O IsraelH3478: The LORDH3068 our GodH430, the LORDH3068 is OneH259.1 5And you shall loveH157 the LORDH3068 your GodH430 with allH3605 your heartH3824 and with allH3605 your soulH5315 and with allH3605 your strengthH3966.2

6TheseH428 wordsH1697 IH595 am commanding youH6680 todayH3117 are to beH1961 uponH5921 your heartsH3824. 7And you shall teach them diligentlyH8150 to your childrenH1121 and speakH1696 of them when you sitH3427 at homeH1004 and when you walkH1980 along the roadH1870, when you lie downH7901 and when you get upH6965. 8Tie themH7194 as remindersH226 onH5921 your handsH3027 and bind themH1961H2903 on your foreheadsH996H5869. 9Write themH3789 onH5921 the doorpostsH4201 of your housesH1004 and on your gatesH8179.

And whenH3588 the LORDH3068 your GodH430 bringsH935 you intoH413 the landH776 He sworeH7650 to your fathersH1, to AbrahamH85, IsaacH3327, and JacobH3290, that He would giveH5414 you—a land with greatH1419 and splendidH2896 citiesH5892 thatH834 you did notH3808 buildH1129, 11with housesH1004 full ofH4392 everyH3605 goodH2898 thing with whichH834 you did notH3808 fill themH4390, with wellsH953H2672 thatH834 you did notH3808 digH2672, and with vineyardsH3754 and olive grovesH2132 thatH834 you did notH3808 plantH5193—and when you eatH398 and are satisfiedH7646, 12be carefulH8104 notH6435 to forgetH7911 the LORDH3068 whoH834 brought you outH3318 of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, out of the houseH1004 of slaveryH5650.

FearH3372 the LORDH3068 your GodH430, serve HimH5647 only, and take your oathsH7650 in His nameH8034.3 14Do notH3808 followH1980H310 otherH312 godsH430, the godsH430 of the peoplesH5971 around youH5439. 15ForH3588 the LORDH3068 your GodH430, who is among youH7130, is a jealousH7067 GodH410. OtherwiseH6435 the angerH639 of the LORDH3068 your GodH430 will be kindledH2734 against you, and He will wipe youH8045 offH5921 the faceH6440 of the earthH127.

16Do notH3808 testH5254 the LORDH3068 your GodH430 asH834 you tested HimH5254 at MassahH4532.4 17You are to diligently keepH8104 the commandmentsH4687 of the LORDH3068 your GodH430 and the testimoniesH5713 and statutesH2706 He has given youH6680. 18DoH6213 what is rightH3477 and goodH2896 in the sightH5869 of the LORDH3068, so thatH4616 it may be wellH3190 with you and that you may enterH935 and possessH3423 the goodH2896 landH776 thatH834 the LORDH3068 your God sworeH7650 to give your fathersH1, 19driving outH1920 allH3605 your enemiesH341 before youH6440, asH834 the LORDH3068 has saidH1696.

Teach Your Children

20In the futureH4279, whenH3588 your sonH1121 asksH7592H559, “WhatH4100 is the meaning of the decreesH5713 and statutesH2706 and ordinancesH4941 thatH834 the LORDH3068 our GodH430 has commanded youH6680?” 21then you are to tellH559 himH1121, “We wereH1961 slavesH5650 of PharaohH6547 in EgyptH4714, but the LORDH3068 brought us outH3318 of EgyptH4714 with a mightyH2389 handH3027. 22Before our eyesH5869 the LORDH3068 inflictedH5414 greatH1419 and devastatingH7451 signsH226 and wondersH4159 on EgyptH4714, on PharaohH6547, and on allH3605 his householdH1004. 23But He broughtH3318 us outH853 from thereH8033 toH4616 lead us inH935 and giveH5414 us the landH776 thatH834 He had swornH7650 to our fathersH1.

24And the LORDH3068 commanded usH6680 to observeH6213 allH3605 theseH428 statutesH2706 and to fearH3372 the LORDH3068 our GodH430, that we may always be prosperousH2896H3605H3117 and preservedH2421, as we are to this dayH3117H2088. 25And if we are carefulH8104 to observeH6213 everyH3605 one of theseH2063 commandmentsH4687 beforeH6440 the LORDH3068 our GodH430, asH834 He has commanded usH6680, then thatH3588 will beH1961 our righteousnessH6666.”
